24.01.2022 SASY has recently partnered with SA Power Networks to help fund our Outreach Services to vulnerable students who are unable to attend school. Partnerships like this one help us greatly and we are excited to share this announcement with the SASY community. Here’s some of our students meeting with staff from SA Power Networks CBD Operations Team late last week!

23.01.2022 Thelements Hip Hop are working with our students during four workshops this Term. One in cartoon and tattoo drawing/design, one in 'breaking' (hip hop dance), one in urban poetry and another in aerosol art. Here's a snap by trim photography from the first workshop on tattoo drawing.

23.01.2022 There's just over a fortnight left to donate to our Chief Executive's fundraising effort for the Vinnie's CEO Sleepout. This is a cause very close to SASY; of the 116,000 Australians experiencing homelessness, 60% are under 35 years old. We can all help to make a difference, so please click the link and donate if you can!

21.01.2022 Yesterday, The Minister for Education, Mr Gardner announced that the last four days of term, before Easter, will be pupil free days. In light of this new announcement the last day of Term 1 is now Friday the 3rd of April. The school will still be open for those students whose parents work in the Health Care profession or require the support of SASY. During these 4 pupil free days, the SASY staff will be continuing our work to transition our teaching and learning to an online... environment. Staff have been working on transitioning teaching and learning using the Microsoft Teams environment for all subjects and year levels in both the Middle and Senior School. This will allow us to deliver curriculum and engage with students in a multitude of ways. This will be available to all students starting Term 2 and it is essential that students access their school emails. Printed materials will also be available should they be required. Further information will be forthcoming and we look forward to returning back to school in Term 2, Tuesday 28th April, unless otherwise directed by the Government.

11.01.2022 SchoolTV have just uploaded a video on student wellbeing and provided a link to BeyondBlue's assessment tool that can be used to gauge adolescent mental health. Given the current circumstances, many of us have experienced emotions ranging from fear to anxiety. However, if these emotions and/or behaviours are lasting more than 2-3 weeks this may be cause for concern, and this assessment tool could help shed some light on what your child is experiencing. https://schooltv.me//special-report-wellbeing-checklist-se

10.01.2022 In accordance with advice from the South Australian Government, SASY is now encouraging students to return to school this term if they are well. Social distancing and hygiene protocols will remain in place. If you are immunocompromised or have a chronic medical condition, please seek medical advice before deciding if your child should return to school. We look forward to seeing students return to SASY in the coming weeks.

08.01.2022 SASY students just finished their first ever creative exhibit! Titled 'Between Realities,' this enchanting experience took guests through the Ignite Hub space and accompanying classrooms and featured tea blending at the famous SASY Tea Club, photography and digital art, a 'city walk' program presentation, rollerblading, the 'make it, sell it' student led stall named 'Surreal Harmony,' and 'DreamLab' immersive drama performances. What a way to finish the Term Congratulations to all of the students and staff involved!

08.01.2022 '$100BUCKSNRUNNIN' is an annual exhibition run by Thelements Hip Hop and is currently on display at Erb'n'flo Coffee & Breakfast Bar. Artists from across Adelaide are invited to create artwork by personalising a template of a running figure. This is the first year that SASY has been involved and ten of our students submitted artwork anonymously to the exhibition (shown below). Each artwork is on sale for $100 and can be viewed from 7am-4pm daily until the end of this month.

08.01.2022 SASY is currently holding a recruitment drive for a number of positions. Apply via the link below.

05.01.2022 Hands on learning has always been a great way to engage our young people at SASY. This term, Middle School Science students have been constructing small solar lights that will find their way to kids in refugee camps or villages in developing countries. We are aiming to send 50 solar lights, along with a personal letter, to children around the world who do not have access to safe or reliable electricity. This project has the ability positively impact the health, education and wellbeing of 250 people around the globe, and we are so proud to be a part of that!

05.01.2022 Due to falling in school holidays, SASY observed NAIDOC Week in Week 10 of Term 2. Tjimari from Kumarninthi Cultural Education spoke with some of our students today about racism and cultural differences in Australia. Together with our staff, students and wider community, we must not only understand cultural diversity in Australia, but celebrate it! #healcountry #NAIDOC2021

03.01.2022 Shifting our mindset and focus during difficult times. Our students have been working on the concept of gratitude. This helps to refocus our energy on the positives around us. It allows for shifts to be made in our ‘internal thinking voice’ and brings changes to our brain ‘wiring’. Our brains are incredible! They have a plasticity about them which means they can change and that just by changing our focus or habits we can change or influence our thinking patterns. I challenge those at home to practice gratitude by starting a gratitude habit. Each day focus on one thing for which you are grateful. To our students, we would love to see how you can capture this in a journal, photo, picture or any other creative way during your self-isolation period. We look forward to seeing the results next term.

02.01.2022 Dreaming of warmer weather... SASY's Adventure Program offers students an opportunity to step away from the bustle of the classroom and reconnect with nature, equipping them with skills and experiences that can support them in overcoming barriers to learning. Most importantly, they have fun!

01.01.2022 Wellbeing is the core principle of all our teaching and learning. Students who participated in the DREAMlab program tapped deep into the creative process as they explored positive wellbeing. Students created wonderful contour characters by drawing each face without looking and had to ensure their pen stayed on paper. The challenge was not to see the person but rather the wonderful characters staring back at them. Characters were named and final works are now part of our visual landscape. You can try this at home .... but preferably not on walls!!
