23.01.2022 ‘The importance of Sarvangasana cannot be over-emphasised. It is one of the greatest boons conferred on humanity by our ancient sages. Sarvangasana is the Mother of all asanas. As a Mother strives for harmony and happiness in the home, so this asana strives for harmony and happiness of the human system.’ -B.K.S Iyengar (Light on Yoga)

22.01.2022 After a much needed social media hiatus, spent in a state of hibernation and introspection, my partner Ruby and I are back with RENEWED ENERGY AND INSPIRATION. We are putting pen to paper with exciting ideas of European retreats; ready to MANIFEST and help EMPOWER all those we are lucky enough to encounter on this new adventure we are embarking on. #StayTuned

18.01.2022 We have been sold the idea that we are in control of our destiny, not simply by working hard but also by thinking positively. As many have discovered, including those who have died of cancer despite their daily affirmations, and those that failed to get their dream job despite their daily ritual of telling themselves they deserve it in the mirror; positive thinking has been vastly overvalued. The most insidious consequence of this common misconception is the way it insists t...hat ‘bad’ feelings guilt, sadness, grief, shame must be suppressed. Meaning that when they inevitably appear, so called ‘positive thinkers’ are unable to navigate them and find themselves flailing in aphorisms and platitudes. Instead it is far more healthy to observe these negative emotions as they arise, accept them but don’t let them control you. Anytime you feel stressed, worried, hurt, lonely or lost, anchor yourself in the facts of now, the present moment. Notice what’s going on in your body, and what’s going on around you. Feel what you are feeling. Know that this is just a moment, and soon it will give way to another. With love, @satyayogasanctuary

16.01.2022 In the absence of the breath and mindfulness yoga ceases to be yoga. Many times on the mat certain thoughts and feelings arise - anger, boredom, impatience, tension. But instead of reacting, you simply observe your thoughts. You remember that this pose, like everything else in life, will eventually end. You remind yourself not to get caught up in your own story line. And, in the midst of feeling irritated while your thighs burn, you appreciate the sweetness of the moment. ...You may even feel waves of gratitude that you have the time and privilege to do a hatha yoga practice. Then you bring your awareness back to your breath and witness the ongoing sensations and thoughts until the teacher guides you out of the pose. With love, Eleanor

15.01.2022 I have recently gravitated more to my yin practice, with the intention of slowing down and grounding myself during these strange, and uncertain times. With rising unemployment, people getting sick and an ubiquitous feeling of fear pervading societies, it is easy to feel lost and untethered. With this is mind I decided to read you a poem that beautifully explains yin and the benefits it can instill within us if practiced right. Consider your will and your body as two dancers..., moving in total unison. Too many beginning and even experienced yoga students make their yoga into a wrestling match - the mind contending with the body, forcing it into postures that the body is resisting. Yoga is a dance, not a wrestling match. The essence of yin is yielding. Yang is about changing the world. Yin accepts the world as it is. Neither is better than the other. There are indeed times when it is appropriate and even necessary to change the world. Other times it is best to just allow things to unfold. Part of the yin practice is learning this yielding With love, Eleanor - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - #yinyoga #satyayogasanctuary #yogini #yogapoem #yogaart #yogaretreat #yogalove #badhakonasana #asanapractice #mentalhealth #stillthemind #findcontentment #yogalifestyle #howtobehappy #yttc #yogacourse #yinyang #yogisofinstagram

09.01.2022 ‘The philosophy of positive thinking means being untruthful; it means being dishonest. It means seeing a certain thing and yet denying what you have seen; it means deceiving yourself and others.’ OSHO

01.01.2022 Vryksasana - Tree pose Tree Pose (vrksasana) gives you an opportunity to play with grounding your energy before reaching for the heavens and observing what causes you to become unbalanced and perhaps lose your footing. Begin standing evenly on both feet. Your chest is lifted while your shoulders relax away from your ears. Find a place to rest your gaze 4 or 5 feet in front of you and keep it there as you shift your weight onto your left leg. Don’t let that left hip poke out,... resembling a teenager with attitude. Instead, root or press the foot into the floor to make the trunk of your tree strong and stable. Imagine roots growing out of the left foot and sinking deep into the earth where they grab hold. Now unweight the right foot, turn the knee out to the side and rest the heel on the left ankle. When you feel stable here you can bring the sole of the right foot to the side of the left calf, below the knee. Stay here, or for more challenge, bend your left knee slightly so you can take hold of the right ankle and bring the sole of the foot to the inside of the left thigh (above the knee, never across the knee.) Now press the foot into the thigh and the thigh into the foot and feel how that stabilizes you. Soften your gaze and relax your jaw. Inhale as you raise your arms overhead and bring the palms of the hands together. Exhale and feel the many little adjustments your body makes to keep you upright. Your tree is alive and constantly shifting. Reach your branches towards the heavens each time you inhale and feel the grounding through the standing foot on the exhale. Should your tree sway or fall, simply laugh and notice what uprooted you. Then try again on the other side. It is the practice of staying firmly rooted in the present moment, exactly as it is, that allows us to extend ourselves and reach for our dreams with freedom and grace. Photo taken in Gokarna - 2016
