24.01.2022 @nicolas_trainerbees_cannah My friend Nicholas is testing the cannabis resin collected by #bees as #propolis for healing benefits. There are humans laws and natural laws . Fortunately some of us are born with a spiritual immune system and have the courage to flaunt laws that are not in the community's interest. The best #Marijuana is outdoor #organic. In many lush areas around Australia courageous people are growing bush #weed to medicate and relax other Australians. Scienc...e is catching up to wisdom of mystiques. The parliament has just legalised marijuana for medical use. Death by marijuana intoxication has never occurred unlike common prescribed pharmaceuticals such as benzodiazepines #Xanax #vallium and #serepax. This group of prescribed drugs kill more Australians than all illicit drugs combined including ice. We hear little about this in the media. Is this because big pharmaceutical makes so much money out of misery. #Marijuana like #alcohol should be used in moderation and avoided by adolescents. Side effects include chronic laughter, heightened sexual experience , paranoia , hunger. #cannahoney #nicolastrainerbees #rawcannahoney

21.01.2022 Salt-seeking bees Unsurprisingly, given bees' need for nectar, the insects' feet are incredibly sensitive to sugar. But they're even more attuned to salt. The bees need salt for their own metabolic processes, and to carry back to their hives to help larvae develop. Thus, homeowners' saltwater pools attract bees. The first-ever investigation of the honeybee ability to taste with their front feet may explain a persistent bee mystery: Why they visit saltwater swimming pools.Salt...water swimming pools don't require chlorine or other chemicals, but they attract honeybees en masse. Now, scientists find that bees have taste receptors on their feet that are so sensitive to salt, that they even dwarf the bees' capacity to taste sweets. They might just sense, with the tips of the legs, the presence of the salty solution and then decide to land. The solution to stop bees going into pool is to create an alternative safe place for bees to drink. #savethebees See more

19.01.2022 No matter where in the world you are support your local beekeeper! Hi Ben, Thank you for your honey.... I am not a fan of honey, have never been. This morning I exploded with hay fever, one of the worst attacks for me. I did the usual things: sucked an anti histamine (you get a quicker result if you do let it dissolve under your tongue) and I used my nasal spray. None of it helped. Then I decided to put honey on a crisp read and oh my, was it sweet. Not surprising as it was your Orange Blossom honey. I noticed my symptoms settling, so I had another dose of the honey on a crispbread. Now, no more nose blowing , sneezing, eyes streaming, just a residual sniff and swollen sinuses. So, thank you for your honey and it's wonderful medicinal properties. I am still not a fan of the taste of honey, but I will always use it for my health. Warm regards to you and your wonderful bees, Liz

18.01.2022 David Jones youre bee okay display is not okay because your using chemically preserved imported flowers. We need to support Australian florists. Australia has over 1500 indigenous bees and mostly a healthy honeybee population that survival depends on Australian flowers. #Davidjones please contact Flower Industry Australia Ltd and find out how you can support Australian #florists. flowerindustryaustralia... Thank you for tagging us @savethebeesaustralia Its an important issue. Our industry has many slow/micro growers who specialise in bee health. @davidjonesstore Feel welcome to contact us next time. Flower Growers are always generous and have donated and assisted the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show for 25 years. FIA and our members would feel honoured to support your Flower Show. Its a marvellous tradition and to use Australian grown flowers would be wonderful because Australian flower growers have suffered from the volume of imported flowers arriving in Australia. Sadly according to the Dept of Agriculture (Quarantine) imported cut flowers are one of the highest risk pathways for invasive pests and pathogens. As a community we must urge the government to ensure all imported flowers are lovely and clean!

17.01.2022 At the entrance to her excavated home The Metallic Green Carpenter Bee nests by hollowing out stalks of grasstrees - Xanthorrhoea, or soft wood such as Bank...sia, Casuarina, Melaleuca and Leptospermum. The females will excavate a tunnel with her jaws, then picks up and dumps the wood shavings outside. The hollow can reach 30 cm long by 1.1-1.4 cm in diameter. Larger pieces of wood may allow for multiple tunnels. Several female bees may use a nest, one breeding and the others guarding. Adult bees hibernate communally, with both sexes in the nests. In spring, females may form reproductive associations or start nesting solitarily. Males tend to gather in old nests and have been observed to occupy non-resource based territories at hilltops, but also inspect nests in search of receptive females or exhibit territorial behaviour around nests. A female defends the 7mm-10mm wide entrance by blocking it with its abdomen. Both male and female bees may overwinter within the tunnels. The tunnels are partitioned into several cells, where the mother bee lays an egg in each accompanied by provisions of nectar and pollen. 14.01.2022 How to NOT get stung by bees when saving a swarm by hand. BREATHE remain calm and visualise the task. Warm your hands and GO SLOW . ... Don’t rush be delicate. Your fingers should be the same temperature as within your own body as your fingers glide within the cluster you feel their warmth and vulnerability. Bees share our core temperature of 37 degrees. Feel their connection and move your fingers deep within the cluster let them seperate, admire their galvanised strength and as they release their grip gently put a large handful of bees within the box or directly onto a frame. Delicately repeat the process and than observe the divided cluster. Look out for the Queenbee. The cluster without the queen will become agitated and than take flight to join the rest of the colony. If the queen is in her new home the whole colony will join her. Indulge in the sound and pheromones in the airthe bees will appear magical as they communicate they have a new home. Try to let them bee until dusk as all the bees will be in the hive. Move the colony to a location where there is a lot of flowers and they will be appreciated.

. . . 11.01.2022 On 10 December 2018 Capilano Honey Limited was officially delisted from the Australian Stock Exchange. A private equity group specialising in China-focused agri...cultural exports has taken over Capilano Ltd and turned it into a private company. Why did the Chinese aligned consortium known as Wattle Hill RHC Fund 1 and ROC Capital Pty Ltd pay $200 million dollars for Capilano and make it a private company after the the 7.30 report / Fairfax media fake honey exposé and the competition watchdog ACCC’s investigation? Because Capilano Ltd will now make a fortune for its shareholders selling premium Australian honey to China and be free to operate without the ASX monitoring its corporate behaviour. Capilano Ltd CEO Ben McKee told Fairfax media prior to the take over: "I think the privatised model for a company our size is more suited, than the current listed model. (Privatised) we can take long-term investments in markets and developing markets, rather than having our results analysed every six months. It is clear that Wattle Hill's Mr Albert Tse is now calling the shots. The Chinese aligned consortium he heads up now owns Capilano Ltd. This includes apiary sites from Queensland to Western Australia. The company is transforming into a honey marketing vehicle focused on upper middle class Chinese customers who can’t get enough of our pure natural resources. "We want to create products with a higher margins Mr Tse said. "Asian and Chinese consumers see this as a wellness product... and are therefore happy to pay a higher price for it. Ben McKee from Capilano Ltd has assured Chinese consumers that Capilano Ltd will only ever sell Australian honey to the Chinese but has not given a guarantee to Australian consumers that his company will not sell Australians honey blended with foreign honey. Coles supermarkets have stopped selling imported blends however Woolworths is still selling blends riddled with imported honey. Despite 180,000 signatures on a petition honey in Australia still is not required to display which country the honey is from. http://change.org/honeylabelling The same consortium that sells premium Australian honey to China blends imported honey with Australian and sells it to Australian consumers using subsidiary brands including Allowrie, and "home brands. It is now more important than ever for Australians to buy honey from their local beekeeper direct. If you don’t already have a local legend supplying you honey use the honeymap to identify one and go and say g’day https://www.beethecure.com.au/honey-map-2/ Sharing will save the bees.

06.01.2022 Bees With Ben PODCAST EPISODE 20: Ryan Moloney (AKA Toadfish from Neighbours), Beach Box Honey, Australia If there is a piece of fine art that sums up the experience of the Aussie suburbs like no other, its Neighbours. And while the soap opera has a swag of lovable and hateable and completely relatable cast members, I feel very positive and assured in saying that there is one character that viewers, probably around the 30-to-40-years bracket, adore most of all. For this ...reason, I am beyond excited to introduce the one and only Ryan Moloney or (no kidding) Jarrod Toadfish Rebecchi as hes known on the show to the BEES WITH BEN beekeeping podcast for a whopping episode 20! You see, I get quite a few emails and messages asking for more Australian-based beekeepers on the podcast, and when I found out that Ryan is a keen beekeeper, with a couple of years experience under his belt, and a new beekeeping business on the horizon, I thought WOW! Toadie just went to a whole new level in my big Aussie heart! For any of you that are too young, or perhaps live overseas and were not privy to Neighbours episodes of the 1990s, Toadfish is an iconic character, loved for his cheekiness, in strife for his bad behaviour, relatable for his vulnerability. He was that guy that was always the class clown, and often the butt of jokes; who, when finishing school, surprised the whole of Australia by blossoming into a respectable and warm-hearted member of the community. With a law degree under his belt, a newfound sense of motivation, a love life, and a neighbourhood of great friends, Toadie inspired many young kids out there (including myself) to make the most of their lives (while keeping that glimmer in their eye and that skip in their step and that joke up their sleeve). And hes still on the show today, 22 years on, indispensable and loveable as ever! And while I understand I have just described a TV character to you, there is a definite warmth and authenticity that both Toadie and Ryan share, which filters through into this new episode. Tune in as we chat about Neighbours, beekeeping, family, flying planes, and Beach Box Honey a wonderful new beekeeping business run by Ryan and his wife Alison which will surely be a huge success! Be sure to check out Beach Box Honey (not Beach House Honey as mentioned in the podcast) on Instagram! 04.01.2022 Australia has over 1500 native bees the majority are solitary bees which means they live alone or in small families. Some indigenous bees like the blue banded bee are superior pollinators as they are able to utilise buzz pollination, a method that European Honeybees do not use. She can then collec...t the pollen for her nest and carry it from flower to flower, pollinating the flowers. Quite a few of our native Australian flowers require buzz pollination Unfortunately, Australian Indigenous Bees like the blue banded bee are experiencing health and population decline due to the use of toxic pesticides such as neonicotinoids. 02.01.2022 Santa is delivering something very special for Christmas this year And it makes a BEEautiful gift! Comprising more than 200 full-colour pages and complemented ...with beautiful photography, For the Love of Bees is the result of years of experience and research. Covering every conceivable aspect of bees and beekeeping, this labour of love is bursting with amazing facts and figures and intriguing information you won’t be able to put it down! ‘Honey bees have evolved a complex social system and, in the construction of their nests, have scaled the heights of engineering perfection. They produce a natural sweetener that keeps forever, plus an incredible ‘superfood’ with magical properties and a utilitarian substance beeswax that is almost unparalleled in its versatility. Constrained by a brain the size of a sesame seed, these enigmatic insects can nonetheless perform the complex calculations necessary to navigate unerringly to a food source the coordinates of which are communicated to the colony using the only known abstract language not invented by humans. Honey bees are armed with a battery of sensory equipment capable of detecting temperature, humidity, wind speed, chemical signatures and polarized light, as well as magnetic and gravitational forces, and have also acquired the ability to see ultraviolet light. As essential pollinators, they are vital for the continued integrity of the floral landscape and, by extension, for the very survival of the human race. Blessed with an enquiring mind thirsting for unusual facts and figures, together with an ‘organic’ philosophy that embraces anything homemade or bespoke, Ben Moore also possesses an innate regard for the merits of determined labour and exudes boundless enthusiasm. It seems almost inevitable therefore that he was destined to be drawn to bees and beekeeping. For the Love of Bees is a tribute to one man’s voyage of discovery, fuelled by a desire to give back something to his chosen calling, and to promote awareness of bees and beekeeping, and a lifestyle more attuned with the natural world. It is packed with fascinating information and imbued with a shared sense of wonder, which emanates from every page.’ (Estimated dispatch 17 December) Click this link to pre order your very own copy! https://www.bensbees.com.au/product/5960/

01.01.2022 @thrivinginatoxicworld 1 ounce of raw, unfiltered honey contains approximately 20 vitamins, 18 amino acids, 16 minerals, and a ton of antioxidants and phytonutrients - if its real. . Its antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, with significant amounts of B2, B3, B5, B6, C, magnesium, potassium, calcium, and phosphate. . But a new test shows nearly half the honey sold in Australia is diluted with cheap sweeteners: rice, wheat and sugar beet syrup - and the honey sold in the ...US is likely worse. . 12 of 28 honey samples taken from Australian grocery stores and tested in a lab in Germany were mostly cheap sugar syrup, not honey. . But they had passed the official government purity tests. . This is because the official, internationally accepted, tests only pick up honey adulterated with cane sugar and corn sugar - not rice syrup or sugar beet syrup. . But a new test, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) can. . Germanys Quality Services International lab was commissioned by Australian horticulturalist Robert Costa to conduct both tests. . QSIs Gudrun Beckh, who has been testing honey for almost 30 years, said, Fake honey always existed, but in the last years its a growing problem because of the people who adulterate using more and more sophisticated methods, so its more complicated to detect it, she said. . While there is no standard or testing for honey purity in the US, its likely similar or worse. . A 2011 lab analysis showed 76% of honey sold in the US had no pollen in it. . Food Safety News commissioned professor Vaughn Bryant of Texas A&M University to test 60 brands of honey from stores around the US. . 76% of samples from grocery stores, and 100% from drug stores and fast food restaurants, contained no pollen. . But removal of all pollen from honey makes no sense as it requires ultra-filtering which is high cost and reduces quality. . The only reason to filter out all pollen is to hide where it initially came from. . The FDA has stated: The FDA does not consider ultra-filtered honey to be honey. . Buying brands labeled raw, unfiltered, and organic increases chances of it being real honey. The lab found 71% of brands labeled organic were pollen-rich. . 01.01.2022 PODCAST EPISODE 18: Emily Forrest Mikschi from Embodybee, wandering the East Coast of Australia There is a quote from Eve Byers short documentary, BEEing Kept, where Emily Forrest Mikschi says I dont really think you could call me a beekeeper because I feel as though its the bees that are keeping me. What a thought, one to stir over slowly, one that conjures the complexity of the relationship between humans and bees and begs us to think about the depths of that connectio...n. Emily Forrest Mikschi is an enigma. On paper, she is the genius behind her business Embodybee she educates children and adults alike, keeps bees, sells bee products, safely rehomes, and runs creative bee-oriented workshops. However, she is much more. A sensual soul, a sexual being, with a spiritual connection to bees unlike anyone I have met in the past. Indeed, I am always thrilled to introduce you to each and every one of the guests on the BEES WITH BEN podcast, but this week I am especially excited, as Emily brings a perspective to the table that is raw, ancient, loving, bodily and simultaneously of this world and not her relationship to bees is one that stimulates all the senses and dips into a kind of consciousness that requires a special kind of intuitive connection to the natural world. Emily told me of an erotic dream she once had, with bees and a snake. As some of you may know, symbolic meaning has been attributed to natural objects and beings since ancient times, and bees too have their own connection to the spiritual realm. Accessing the depths of consciousness often requires a strong understanding of the body, and how it relates to the earth, time and space. With these things in mind (and they are not small ideas), we might be able to shed some light on Emilys unique perspective. For Emily, beekeeping is much more than a way to procure honey, or even a way to help the planet; for her, bees are sacred beings, connected intrinsically to love and worship. With this in mind, Emily has made it her lifes mission to re-sacralise the bee, or, make it a scared being once again. Invested in a kind of mutual relationship with bees a sort of sensual and spiritual love affair Emily approaches bees from a position of love and respect, and hopes that this approach is adopted more widely, so that all forms of apiary centre on symbiosis a mutual and beneficial relationship between humans and, as Emily calls them, sun beings. Make sure you tune in to listen to Emily and I wander through the depths of her sacred, spiritual and sensual practice that is far more than just beekeeping. We chat about Emilys vision, her business Embodybee, spirituality, and getting naked and honey-dipped with the bees themselves. Tempted? I bet! www.embodybee.org
