25.01.2022 NOW WE NEED HELP! The sign has gone up We Are Full. We have taken in, all the brumbies we can what a terrifying sight that should be for us... Hoofs 2010 Brumby Rescue is full. For months we have asked Brumby Rescues to take the wild brumbies in we wept and we pleaded and they did take them in. Now we need to support the brumbies they saved because WE the people asked and they did what we asked. Do we now have the courage to hold up the limb? That the care takers and workers have stepped out on? As they prepare our beloved Wild Australian Brumbies to take their next step in life. They say they are but the stepping stones to a Brumbies new life. So why do I tear up? When I hear that simple comment because I know it comes from deep within their hearts. Remember these brumbies are never sold they are rehomed on a life lease with no fees. Yes; we wept and we pleaded and now we need to do our part. Let us choose a Brumby Rescue to support as much as we can. Photo credit: Lynette Sutton Poem by: Maree Sura

25.01.2022 Well the snow is practically gone, and the Brumbies are enjoying the fresh sweet grass out on the plains. This photo was taken 10 days ago on Aug 30 whilst I wa...s out with the snowshoes. This Stallion and his mare were separated from a larger mob that he has flanked for many years due to being stuck on the wrong side of a deep creek. I can now confirm everyone has been reunited and peace has settled among the herds once again. Photo Copyright to Carol Hancock See more

21.01.2022 Well, it poured rain ALL DAY today, but we had work to do and our fabulous committee here to do it! Today, we brought in our big paddocks of wild ones to chan...ge them around a bit before this years foals arrive. We don't breed any Brumbies here of course, but we have 3 mares from Bogong and 6 from Kosi who are all looking very pregnant! The video shows Zorro and Thoras mob coming in - after we convinced them that we had no hay!! HUGE thanks to Bridie, Hannah and Jules - it is so amazing having such an incredible team!! See more

20.01.2022 AUSTRALIA'S FAILURE IN ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT IS A #SystemicFAIL "One of the biggest failings of our environment protection laws is the self-assessment crit...eria. Under the self-assessment guidelines, people are required to decide for themselves whether they think their activity needs to be referred to the Federal Government for approval." FAIL because, the system lets the perpetrator of the crime decide if a crime has been committed or not. FAIL because a State Agency can eradicate a population of wild horses based on it's own self assessment. 19.01.2022 WILDLIFE IN 'CATASTROPHIC DECLINE' DUE TO HUMAN DESTRUCTION, SCIENTISTS WARN A recent report found evidence of an alarming decline in wildlife species across th...e world. The main cause of this was #HumanDestruction Will the scientists in Australia who blame the #Brumbies for species loss, take into account the EVIDENCE provided by this report that the culprit is in fact humans? "The report looked at thousands of different wildlife species monitored by conservation scientists in habitats across the world. They recorded an average 68% fall in more than 20,000 populations of mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish since 1970. The decline was #clear #evidence of the #damage #human #activity is doing to the natural world, said Dr Andrew Terry, director of conservation at the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), which provides the data." 14.01.2022 Hi all Work is hectic ,work also took us over the mountain yesterday to Finley and coming back today we had to stop for an hour or so on the way home. Please be... careful when hiking up there as the snakes are out and about as our friend Mark pointed out . We had to take its photo ,a beautiful highland copperhead. We sat with a mob after hiking a short distance ,they are all well Another mob in the distance decided to come over and have a look at who we were and didnt they make the appearance Thy ran around us twice whinnying ,the stallion leading the way and I must say the sound was quite amazing. The mob we were watching just stood there and watched the approaching mob do their thing without much care at all. All brumbies are well.Spring is definitely in the air. Over the mountain again we go with work tomorrow to Wagga this time. Will take the camera and hopefully on the way back Sunday we will have time for a small adventure with our brumbies. Thanks all Michelle xx See more

12.01.2022 WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE? SHIPPING CONTAINERS OR BRUMBIES? According to scientists in Australia, it is the Brumbies (nomadic herbivores) who... are the causes of environmental damage. 10.01.2022 Welcome JJ to the McDowells Australian Brumby Challenge! We are delighted to welcome Trainer JJ Bracey to the McDowells Australian Brumby Challenge! JJ applied ...to undertake the ABC but due to our COVID restrictions, it didn’t look like it was possible for her to do it. That is, until Tamara Janus withdrew for family reasons. That left the Brumby she had been training, VBA Fiora, in need of a trainer and JJ was thrilled to step up and take Fiora on! JJ is 16 years old. She is from the Northern Territory, where she works with a variety of horses, including her local Brumbies. She enjoys getting to know each horse that comes her way and helping them find their potential. Fiora has safely arrived with JJ in the Northern Territory and is settling in well. She has had a quiet week, while she and JJ get to know each other. As JJ commences training Fiora, she will be going right back to the beginnings to ensure that Fiora understands JJs approach and keep things simple and reliable for Fiora. We are really looking forward to following JJ and Fiora through the rest of the McDowells Australian Brumby Challenge!

05.01.2022 REWILDING AUSTRALIA - There is potential for rewilding to work in Australia, using species that are already here. 05.01.2022 I was reading an article about how Brumbies are inbred and weedy lil "things". I beg to differ and am quite often in awe of how nice some of them are. This phot...o I took today of a stallion that I have watched grow up from a colt and my goodness by anyones standards one cannot deny that he is a very nice horse! He doesn't have his own mare or herd yet but I suspect that is not too far away as he does flank another Stallion.Have a great long weekend everyone and whatever you choose to do please be safe! 05.01.2022 MEASURING THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF FERAL HORSES - ABA-USQ study update In August 2019 The ABA contracted with the University Of Southern Queensland (USQ) ...to re-balance the science that has been strongly influenced by the anti-Brumby lobby. Most Brumby (feral horse) impact science so far relies on correlative data and weak inferences that actually contain evidence supporting the belief that horses can have both positive and negative environmental impact The urgent need to measure BOTH negative & positive impact and possible adverse effects of removing wild horse populations has been called for by many of us, but detailed science is costly. After months of discussion and no government funding, the ABA committed $146,331 & USQ $139,013 (total $285,344 PLUS GST) to a world first study which measures impacts (BOTH positive and negative) of wild/feral horses. LINK https://australianbrumbyalliance.org.au//ABA-USQ-Research- Dr. Berman declared his work for ABA and Forestry & Queensland National Parks when applying for SAP along with his 37 years conducting & reviewing research, advising on and implementing management plans for wild horses in Australia, the USA and New Zealand. The study was originally due to finish by August 2020, but bushfires late 2019/early 2020 delayed the start. Immediately after areas were fire safe, field work began. Then Covid-19 restrictions cut short the trip with sites still to visit. This short study frustratingly is dragging on, now we wait for border restrictions to settle to complete the study. We urgently need donations to pay $50,000 on study completion. We have already paid $100,000.
