25.01.2022 Earlier this week I caught up with Garth Hamilton - LNP for Groom to chat about the Federal Government’s $2.2m investment towards this dangerous intersection on the Warrego Highway. Fixing this intersection will ensure locals in Toowoomba and Darling Downs can travel home more safely every time they are on the road.

24.01.2022 Very proud to open the revitalised Boonah Town Centre yesterday funded under our Building Better Regions fund. Without this Federal Funding, this project just wouldn’t have been possible. If you’re not from Boonah, head over and check it out and shop in some of our wonderful local businesses!

24.01.2022 #TriviaTuesday: Do you know the answer?

23.01.2022 Every year across the world, around 1.35 million people will die in road traffic deaths. Those statistics represent more than just the tragic loss of life. They represent a horrifying number of people left hurting children, parents, siblings, friends, colleagues and first responders. This Road Safety Week, and every week, drive safe and look after others on the road.

23.01.2022 #TRUCKING: MOVING LIVESTOCK MADE EASY New National Operation Advice from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator will remove the requirement to include registration numbers from Class 3 Livestock Vehicle permits. This simple change will cut this red tape, improving efficiency and animal welfare outcomes, without compromising on safety.

23.01.2022 The Federal LNP Government works with local governments across Australia to build lots of bridges, and here is another one on the way for Cloncurry Shire Council, the Coppermine Creek bridge in town. Mayor Greg Campbell runs us through the project.

23.01.2022 Catching up with Amy Gillett Foundation on zoom this morning to hear Amy’s story from Amy’s mother Mary and hear about the foundation’s great work from Dan and Sarah. The Coalition Government is investing $2bn into road safety over the next two years including cycling relating upgrades.

22.01.2022 #FlashbackFriday: The use of portable steam engines made light work of previously back breaking tasks for farmers in the early 1900’s. Here we see locals of Townson using a horse drawn steam engine to drive a corn thresher. The valley that follows Laidley Creek in Townson is still used for crop production today and the 38 residents who call Townson home would appreciate the dedication of the early farmers who settled the area.

22.01.2022 Today is the last day of National Road Safety Week. Sadly, it has been a horrifying day on our roads. Locally, we've seen a number of serious crashes.... My thoughts are with those involved, including emergency responders, families and friends. Please, drive safe and drive to conditions. Remain alert and aware of your surroundings. If you are yet to travel today, check to see if your route is clear. Seek alternatives if needed or just wait until it is clear. Stay safe, everyone.

22.01.2022 A pleasure to join the team at Frasers Livestock Transport Warwick Depot yesterday for their annual ‘Yarn in the Yard’ event. It is a fantastic initiative of Fraser’s helping drivers keep on top of their physical and mental health with health awareness talks and free heart checks from the Heart of Australia. Other presentations included a session on fatigue from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, an address on the Paraplegic Benefit Fund, an update from the Queensland Police Service and Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, and an animal welfare update from Bio Security Queensland.

21.01.2022 Today, the community of Lockyer Valley farewelled a beautiful soul. Ivy Ellen O’Brien 3 September 1935 - 13 December 2020. Our deepest condolences to the O’Brien family. A fitting ceremony for a special lady. ... Rest In Peace my friend.

21.01.2022 #FlashbackFriday: How would today’s kids react to having this as their school? Much has changed over the last hundred years or so. This single room building was the school for local children of Mount Nathan in 1913. Education is such a vital part of a child’s development and this is highlighted by the commitment of the teachers who chose to teach in remote communities, like Mount Nathan was back then.

Tabooba Junction Station was where the line split, giving Beaudesert access to Rathdowney and Lamington.

18.01.2022 #FlashbackFriday: To early settlers, horses were vital to their survival. They were not only transport for families exploring the untamed, rugged wilderness of our region, they were also the workforce, tilling the soil and hauling timber. These noble steeds carried the future of Queensland on their backs, literally.

13.01.2022 #FlashbackFriday This seems like just another picnic on the Bell family’s Coochin Coochin Station, a few kilometres south of what is now the township of Boonah, except for a very special guest. This particular picnic in 1920 included Price Edward, The Prince of Wales. Prince Edward spent the weekend at Coochin Coochin Station while in Australia on a Royal Tour representing his father King George V. Prince Edward would go on to become King Edward VIII.

06.01.2022 The Bromelton Bunyip. In 1850, a visitor to Bromelton House near Beaudesert, pictured here, recalls seeing a ‘monster’ swimming in the lagoon on the property. Describing a creature of over 30 feet (9m) in length with a head similar to that of a platypus, the tail of a fish and being as round as a man’s body. Although what she saw was most likely a large eel, reports of Bunyips from all over the country would later see these mystical creatures become part of Australian folklore.

01.01.2022 #FlashbackFriday: Early settlers of our region had very little access to quality tools or machinery and had to rely on their ingenuity to construct homes. This picture shows a basic slab hut home on the left and a partially completed stone dwelling on the right. Slab huts were born out of necessity as traditional English mud homes could not stand up to the severe summer storms our region is famous for. Settlers would fell trees and cut timber slabs to make the walls and often the floors of these dwellings giving rise to the name ‘slab hut’. Access to better quality tools eventually paved the way for stronger stone dwellings to take their place.
