21.01.2022 Yr 12 2020 ~ By Year 4 I can hear Cleo chatting and holding friendly conversations. The words of Findlay as she speaks confidently to a crowd. I can hear David acting with his interesting sense of humour,... Brooke’s friendly greeting and Duncan’s horn blowing at swimming. I can hear Year 12 2020. I can see Nicholas and Amelia leading the school by example. The sight of Heather twirling, leaping, dancing and inspiring. I can see Sarah soaking up the warm sun. Noma powering through her work and Ben creating colour. I can see Year 12 2020 I can smell Duncan’s tasty wood fired pizzas. The sweaty shirt of Nicholas as he plays soccer. I can smell the salt of the waves on Archie and Jai protecting us as they surf. The fish as Jai reels them in. I can smell Year 12 2020. I can touch the water that Poppy plunges into with a small splash. The fur of Banjo when Maddie brings him in to share. I can touch the animals that Amelia cares compassionately for. The bright colours of Georgia’s and Brooke’s chalk art. I can touch Year 12 2020 I can taste Rachel’s toasted sandwiches as my tummy rumbles. The taste of Jessica & Louise’s delicious special staff lunches. I can taste pizza, noodles, coffee drifts from their common room. I can taste Year 12 2020

18.01.2022 Dear Parents and Students, It has come to the attention of teachers that students have extremely dirty and revolting fingernails. Problems including dirt in excess amounts, and unevenly cut fingernails have been identified as the most prevalent issues. In these times of cleanliness, we ask that our students take a stand against any form of bacteria or infection. Friday the 25th of September will be a MANDATORY FINGERNAIL INSPECTION. Students will have their nails checked by their teachers in the homeroom period in the morning. Any tips on cleaning, please feel free to check with the Principal in Period 1 who will be more than happy to help. Please make amendments to these issues to prevent any further consequences

08.01.2022 Our stage 1 class have been turning wooden spoons into a village of people to send to Ms Stebbing (our previous Pre-Kinder Teacher) who is now living in Frankston VIC. Ms Stebbing lives near a school and she is feeling sad for the children she sees walking past each day who cannot go to school at the moment, so we were asked to help her. Students in stage 1 worked in pairs to decorate a spoon to make a person. We tried to make our people water proof as Melbourne does have some wet weather. The spoons have arrived at their new home and Ms Stebbing sent us a photo!

01.01.2022 One Giant Leap Australia Foundation is sending native golden wattle seeds to the International Space Station in early December, 2020. In collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) the seeds will live in space for six months, returning to Australia in time for Science Week 2021. Supported by the Australian Space Agency, the "What’ll happen with the wattle??!" programme is being offered to more than 150 schools, scout groups and Australian Air Force Cadets... across Australia. A community panel judged the applications that included 200 words and a short video, explaining what the schools would do with the wattle once it had grown. One of the panel members said, We have spent 5 days watching videos. Entries from all over Australia. From a single teacher in a face mask in a school in Victoria to a small school in remote Northern Territory. It has been an amazing opportunity to laugh and cry our way through them. Once selected, the chosen schools around Australia will receive wattle seeds that have flown to space, plus seeds that have not. The seeds are from the same seed lot. Students are asked to germinate and grow their seeds, recording data about the germination and seed growth. Data will be uploaded to the ‘What’ll happen to the wattle??!’ app. Our school, Sapphire Coast Anglican College has been selected to monitor and grow the Wattle Seeds. College Science teacher Casey Hoynes said Our Year 9 Science class made a fantastic video entry. We are so excited for this opportunity and are looking forward to having all our students from PreK to Year 12 involved in an authentic, long term space experiment! We are planning to donate some of the trees to fire affected communities once they are established. Check out our Wattle Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqctXkZMkiE Throughout the programme, One Giant Leap Australia Foundation will run teleconferences and provide educational support to participating groups. The 12-month to 2 year project will result in the creation of a nationwide map identifying the location of Australia‘s 'space wattle’ trees. The project is an historic opportunity for Australian schools and students. Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) media announcement: https://iss.jaxa.jp/en/kuoa/news/200901.html
