24.01.2022 Happy #NAIDOC Week! The theme this year is Heal Country. Country is more than a place. Country is family, kin, law, lore, ceremony, traditions, and language. Healing Country means embracing First Nation’s cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia's national heritage.... The right to protect Country and culture is fundamental. Destruction and desecration of our sacred lands or ancient sites - some of the oldest human occupation sites on the planet is an enormous loss for both our nation and the world. But to truly heal Country we have more to do: www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/2021-theme #NAIDOC2021 #NAIDOCWeek #HealCountry

20.01.2022 Please join us in thanking Lindsay, our program manager, for the hard work, heart and soul she has put into SCARF, and in wishing her all the best for her new role. After four impactful years leading SCARFs volunteer program Lindsay, is moving on. We are so very grateful to Lindsay for all that she has done for the SCARF community. She will be greatly missed and, as we say farewell, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on her significant contribution. Over the l...ast four years, Lindsay has embodied the essence of SCARF by being a great friend, support and mentor to so many members of the SCARF family - volunteers, community and staff members, alike. With a passion for volunteer management that is second to none, Lindsay led the development and implementation of the volunteer management framework that has allowed us to support our team of volunteers, and to grow the programs and activities we run. Lindsay is moving on to a new role with our friends over at Green Connect, where she will combine her passion for supporting refugee families and mobilising volunteers with her academic background in environmental conservation. We are excited to think of what great new things they will be able to achieve with Lindsay on the team to support them.

14.01.2022 SCARF Refugee Support has been subcontracted by Settlement Services International - SSI to deliver the Refugee Employment Support Program (RESP) in the Illawarra. RESP addresses the challenges that are experienced by many former refugees and asylum seekers in finding long term skilled employment opportunities. The RESP is a four-year $22 million initiative by the NSW Government, managed by the NSW Department of Education. RESP works at a local level to provide targeted job re...adiness programs, work experience pathways and support opportunities for former refugees and asylum seekers to secure meaningful employment. It is anticipated that RESP will assist up to 6,000 refugees and 1,000 asylum seekers across Western Sydney and Illawarra, the areas where a majority of refugees settle in NSW. While SCARF has been providing employment readiness support to our community members for some time this is a milestone moment for SCARF, it is the first time we have accessed government funding to support and expand this much needed area of our work. We are thrilled for the opportunity to continue to develop our employment support programs and provide practical and meaningful opportunities for further training and local employment at what we know is a difficult time for many. Thank you to SSI for this opportunity. We look forward to ramping up this project.
