23.01.2022 In breaking news, conservative crossbench Senator Leyonhjelm has introduced a bill which, if passed, will end Australia's marriage discrimination. It's pretty e...xciting, but there's two things that need to happen before we see marriage equality for all Australians. First, Prime Minister Abbott must allow his Liberal MPs and Senators to vote with their conscience on the legislation, rather than being bound by his out-of-date party line. If you haven't already, you can urge Mr Abbott to allow a conscience vote here: https://www.getup.org.au/conscience-vote Second, when the time comes for our politicians to vote on marriage equality, if we have been successful in lobbying Mr Abbott to allow a conscience vote, we need to make sure that all MPs and Senators know that the majority of Australians support marriage equality and that their constituents want them to vote YES. Get in touch with your MP here: https://www.getup.org.au/love Join the campaign now, and help make history.

02.01.2022 Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages Civil Partnerships 18 March 2016... The Relationships (Civil Partnerships) and Other Acts Amendment Act 2015, will come into effect on March 22, 2016. This means that on March 22, the Civil Partnerships Act 2011 will be reinstated and will allow adult couples of any sex to have a legally recognised declaration ceremony. Under the new legislation, couples must provide notice of intention to enter a civil partnership at least 10 clear days prior to their ceremony. Couples can provide this notice from March 22. On commencement of the Act, the first date that a civil partnership ceremony can occur is April 2, provided that notice is given on March 22. Also from March 22, interested persons can apply to BDM to be registered as a civil partnership notary (CPN) to conduct civil partnership ceremonies. Forms and information on how to become a CPN or have a declaration ceremony are available now on the BDM website: www.qld.gov.au/bdm
