20.01.2022 In the lead up to the State General Election, Council is calling for the new Queensland Government to support a Canungra bypass, with a business case, design and preservation of the proposed road corridor by 2024 and construction by 2032. The rapid growth of the neighbouring Gold Coast, and the acceleration of the Bromelton State Development Area, means the east-west corridor which runs through Canungra is coming under increasing pressure with increased traffic. This is just ...one priority area in Council's Ten Point Advocacy Plan, which is asking local candidates and major political parties to support issues that affect the lives of our residents and the future of local businesses. Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said the state-controlled road is in desperate need of a significant upgrade to support safety for all users. Council is asking for a commitment to an eight metre width of bitumen sealing by 2024 and then an increase in the Queensland Gov...ernment's ongoing maintenance to ensure service levels across the full corridor are maintained. 05.01.2022 Scenic Rim Regional Council is calling for Queensland Government funding for a new bypass to support Gallery Walk’s revitalisation as a pedestrian-friendly precinct. The ever-increasing popularity of Gallery Walk as a destination for Scenic Rim residents and visitors had resulted in this section of road being stretched well beyond the capacity of its original design. This precinct is now a heavily trafficked corridor with a mix of visitor and commercial traffic, traffic movem...ent by local residents and a large volume of pedestrian traffic which poses a significant safety risk to motorists and those on foot. A bypass of this section away from the highly trafficked pedestrian area would allow the safe movement of commercial, visitor and residential through traffic. In the lead-up to the October 2020 State election, Council has released a 10 Point Advocacy Plan which includes a proposal that the Queensland Government construct a connection road between Macdonnell Road and Eagle Heights Road, via Cook Road, on Tamborine Mountain by 2024. You can read more in our media release below. https://www.scenicrim.qld.gov.au//council-calls-for-galler
