25.01.2022 Save The Date: Stirling's Crossing Education Weekend 23/24th January 2021

24.01.2022 Hard working camp boss, Jen Symmons and our very own intrepid CS, Olly Lochtenberg taking a well earned break for a few minutes.

24.01.2022 Stirling's Crossing Endurance Club will be hosting an education weekend on 23 and 24 January 2021. We know there were lots of new-to-endurance riders who participated in events last year, and we hope to see you attend over this weekend. Let us know if there are any aspects of the sport that you would specifically like more information about. A full program will be posted early in the new year and we will endeavour to include any topics suggested by you. Our focus will be on conversations with people who have endured for many years. This will be a great start to 2021 and will most probably include a short ride.

24.01.2022 The beautiful of face and manner: Savannah Billie and her lovely horse Phoenix...both dressed for the 20klm fun ride.

24.01.2022 Personal HUGE thank you to these 3 lovely ladies. Jen Symmons, Yvonne Hain and Chris Phelps. They helped me put up my tent ..slightly windy and the tent was not quite..uhhmm...correct in it's posture..but as I said..it was only for that night and I would take it down Saturday..midday as I knew we had a storm coming and I didn't want to take any chances of it flying into some yarded horse ..car or whatever. These gals are a hoot...so enjoy their company.

22.01.2022 its AGM yesterday with Committee Members elected for 2020. President Kim Moir Vice President Matthew Sample Secretary Linda Lochtenberg Treasurer Sarah Coyne... Committee Members Olaf Lochtenberg, Jen Symmons, Jamie Green, Chris Phelps, Krysha Vreman and Kelly Dymock. Memberships must be renewed before 1 January 2021. The ride calendar is confirmed for 2021 with the Stirling's Starter in March, the Stirling's Classic in May and QERA State Championships in July. Other events may be offered as the calendar evolves. Thanks to all those members who have committed to portfolios for next year and special thanks to Chris Phelps who has taken on responsibility for Volunteer Coordinator. We are very grateful to everyone who volunteers at our events and encourage all riders to think about what they can offer. Most of our club members ride as well so if we can spread the load, everyone can have rides to go to. There are always jobs to do - example below, sorting out timing cards.

When you go to Manehub, there is a detailed explanation of the schedule for the weekend. 20/40/80 on Saturday 20/40 on Sunday Venue open from 1.00pm on Friday. https://events.manehub.com/events

20.01.2022 Stirling’s Starter 6 7 March 2021 Stirling’s Crossing Endurance Club will be opening nominations soon for the Stirling’s Starter. This is usually our first event of the year but is actually our second event for 2021, following a very successful Education and Training weekend and we hope to see many of those attendees return for the Starter event. The ride schedule will include 20, 40 and 80 km rides on Saturday afternoon, and 20 and 40 km rides on Sunday morning.... A full information sheet will be posted shortly as will advice about nominations. Entry to the venue will be from 1.00 pm pm Friday. All people entering the venue will have to sign a COVID-19 Declaration and all horses will have to present with a 10-day temperature log. This is a good opportunity for those who did the TPR course to do their first ride volunteering in the vet ring. There are many other opportunities to volunteer and this is a great way to cement your learning about endurance. Volunteers needed to TPR, to manage check points on track, to pencil for vets and run log books, to do regular toilet clean, to man entry gate and check paperwork.

19.01.2022 Thank you to all our QERA State Championship sponsors! Sarah Sullivan Photography has taken official Presentation photos to be shared soon!

19.01.2022 Thank you to our very brave and hard working caterers. Paco's Taco's first ever time at a horse endurance ride..what a baptism!! The food was excellent....delicious and filling, such great value too. I ordered a chicken burritto..oh my goodness....so yum and so much of it which was good as it turned out I didn't have time to eat until 10.30pm that night. Thankfully he had a generator so when we lost mains power,he just kept on cooking . The fish tacos..I heard..were fresh pi...eces of barra which were cooked almost in front of your eyes. Paco and his lovely assistant never lost their smiles or their gentle manner. Before they left our event...they supplied enough burrittos, nachos and tacos for every vet,cs,tprs and vollies that were still working under torch and head lights before we managed to get the generator working. We very much appreciated their attendance. I believe they arrived safe back home late Saturday night. See more

05.01.2022 Speaking as part of a committee that has organised some of the largest rides in the QERA Division over the last 4 years, I would like to comment that not all risk can be removed from an equestrian event. The current statement on Biosecurity Queensland states that "Event organisers and competitors at equestrian events have a general biosecurity obligation (GBO) to take all reasonable and practical measures to prevent or minimise the effects of a biosecurity risk. Hendra virus ...poses a serious biosecurity risk. This means that event organisers and competitors are legally required to reduce the risk of Hendra virus infection and limit the spread of Hendra virus when dealing with horses and other possible carriers." Biosecurity Qld, on their website and in their letter to Steve Dennis offer advice on many strategies that reduce the risk. The Biosecurity Plan for TQ19 was discussed with Biosecurity officers and was assessed to be reasonable and practical". Endurance events are not assessed to be high risk events because of the space we afford to horses in camp and the separation that the nature of the sport allows. Biosecurity Qld also reminds us that in the event of a "sick horse" the same PPE measures should be adopted for vaccinated and non-vaccinated horses. WH&S provides a very clear video about what level of PPE should be used for non-invasive and invasive work with a healthy horse and with a sick horse describing three very definite levels of PPE to be used in each circumstance. Our events are run at a standard acceptable to the industry and I would hope that we would continue to consider how we can maintain the standard that we have, and look to improve on it. Vaccination for Hendra is not acceptable for many people and there is a suggestion that we are at risk if the class action is successful. We should be consulting with vets to say how can we do better - how we can improve the assessment and diagnosis of horses at a ride so that referrals can be confidently made. How many horses have been referred to another facility this year - 1? How many horses have been assessed as a Hendra risk at a ride - 0? How many exclusion tests have been done that returned a positive outcome - 205 tests in the quarter from July with no positive results. Let's realistically assess the risk and work together to keep our rides safe, to keep our sport open to all wannabe Quilty winners - I welcome them all to rides at Stirling's - and let's stop the in-fighting. Signed Kim Moir Edit note - for those of you who can't see this, it does note under the Stirling's Crossing Endurance Club inc that the author is Kim Moir, but this is perhaps not visible to all. 05.01.2022 QERA State Championships 2021 What a huge weekend! I entered my first 160km ride in hopes of completing to gain Tom Quilty qualification. I was fortunate enoug...h to ride the incredible El Crown Prince (Arlo) owned and trained by Leigh Rich. We arrived at the beautiful Stirling’s Crossing Endurance Complex early Saturday morning hoping the rain would stop by the end of the day. We were pleasantly surprised that it stopped around midday giving the tracks a chance to absorb the moisture from the previous week. Arlo and I nominated, vetted in and went for a quick 10km jog to prepare for the early morning start. At 11pm myself and my strappers were up getting prepared for the 12am start. Arlo was in good spirits and we set off into the night alone at a good pace. We came off the first leg (42km) in 3hrs and 15mins and Arlo was fantastic. He knew his job and kept soldiering on. We set out for the second leg (43km) and returned in good time. Leg 3 (35km) was the most technical with rocky tracks and bush terrain but Arlo handled himself brilliantly. Leg 4 (20km) was delightful rolling road tracks and some pretty bush scenery. Leg 5 (20km) was the same track as Leg 4 making it easy to manage him through the final leg. We vetted through successfully and completed the 160km ride. I’m so thrilled with how Arlo performed he was always keen to keep going and was a pleasure to ride. We rode the entire ride solo so lucky Arlo was great company! I’d like to thank Arlo’s owner Leigh for trusting me with her beautiful horse. She trained, prepared, transported and strapped him as well as many other things prior and during the weekend. None of this would have been possible without her - thank you! Another huge thanks to Peter for being my secondary strapper over the weekend. Your support means a lot to me and helped me get through the ride! Thank you for handling Derek with such care () Thank you to the Marvel Endurance Team, Victoria, Chintzia and Kailani for also helping strap! Thank you to my wonderful sponsors ALFA Endurance. And thank you to Stirling's Crossing Endurance Club Inc. and Queensland Endurance Riders Association Inc for hosting the State Championships in this tricky time. One step closer to the Quilty with Romeo! See more
