15.01.2022 Rockport Strong: Something can be done about it Convoy For nearly 30 years, the Churches of Scientology Disaster Response Team has responded to catastrophic eve...nts domestically and internationally. So today, the group arrived in style to the city of Rockport. "These people do need help, the governor called out, don't forget Rockport. We are working down here, we've put over 6 thousand volunteer hours into this area, it's hard hit and no one is here, we are it," said Joava Good, the National Director for the Team. A convoy carrying lumber, sheet rock. and other building supplies traveled about 1500 miles to meet the needs of those who needed them most. The caravan was extremely well-received at the airport. "We got knocked down but we are back up and we are working hard every day and with the help that you have brought to us, that reconstruction effort will move even quicker than we had hoped it would," said Rockport mayor, Charles J. Wax. The Scientology sponsored event even let a Texan lead the charge, Mike Collier says it's been a pleasure working with good-hearted strangers from Utah, and a local official agrees. "We found our neighbors from, Utah? Wow!! They aren't neighbors anymore, they're family. We really appreciate what they've done for us, and we won't ever forget them," said C.H. 'Burt' Mills, Aransas County judge.
