25.01.2022 Hey guys Ryan here :) Just a short video to explain what is offered at SciTute and to announce the free lesson period. Head on over and get in touch if you're keen to learn some science!

22.01.2022 Hey everyone! This is just a quick video that explains my education and past teaching experience.

21.01.2022 Have you heard of Himawari-8? It is Japan's geosynchronous space satellite that Australia's BoM uses to monitor the weather and issue alerts. Recently, It provided important data and imagery for the bushfires that devastated much of the east coast.... You can view the latest images it has captured here: http://satview.bom.gov.au/

20.01.2022 Ferrocene crystals! Probably the nicest crystals I managed to form during my undergrad. Ferrocene is very useful and has many applications, but what excited me the most was its use as a catalyst in Ammonium Perchlorate Composite Propellant (APCP, or rocket fuel).... APCP is used in things like aircraft ejection seats, the space shuttle's Solid Rocket Boosters (SRB) and even over on Mars in the retrorockets used to help the rovers land safely.

19.01.2022 This is my Honours Testamur. You can confirm my award through UWAs verification system found here: https://www.student.uwa.edu.au/c/award-verification-service?... (Connery, Ryan) For any other documents including my Working with Children Check please just send me a message and I will be more than happy to pass them along.

16.01.2022 A double stranded DNA helix - the hard drive of your cells. DNA is already being used as an information storage system by scientists around the world. In 2017, researchers at Harvard encoded a video in DNA and then subsequently played it back! You can read about it and see the video here: ... https://www.theguardian.com//scientists-pioneer-a-new-revo Image adapted from https://dragly.org

14.01.2022 FREE TEXTBOOKS Hey guys so just a heads up, Springer is giving away free PDF textbooks to help students during the pandemic. There's a bunch of different topics ranging from business to astrophysics. I spent probably close to $500 on textbooks during my undergrad so this could save you a lot.... Their original article is here: https://www.springernature.com//free-access-to-te/17855960 But a legend has compiled the links here (rather than an Excel spreadsheet) to make it easier to download: https://hnarayanan.github.io/springer-books/

14.01.2022 Cardz have arrived! :D

14.01.2022 The video shows one step in a series of chemical reactions involved in the synthesis of para-Terphenyl, a component found in some sunscreens and nuclear reactor coolants in the 60s. This step required a lot of energy to speed up the reaction and hence needed a bunsen burner. So how did we stop all of the liquid evaporating and escaping? By doing what chemists call "reflux." Attached to the reaction flask is a condenser flowing constantly with cold water. As the heated molecul...es enter the gas phase and fly up through the tube they come into contact with the glass that is carrying this water. They then rapidly lose energy, condense into the liquid state and fall back down into the reaction flask. You can observe this at the 20 second mark. By placing the reaction under reflux we can keep the system at a relatively high energy state for hours and maintain conversion of reactants into products. ...And then after all that trouble we can smear it on our skin and go out into the sun :p

12.01.2022 If you cant find a time that you like just send me a message and I can arrange something more flexible.

12.01.2022 Wow that is an awesome first day. Almost 2 hours of watch time on a 1 min vid!! Thank you to everyone who has liked and shared my post and the SciTute page. <3
