23.01.2022 To all our wonderful families Sadly, our beloved Scoresby West looks like closing for some of this term. This pandemic is unprecedented, and everyone is unsure. ... Both Mandys have been directed by doctors to self-isolate during this time. We are thinking of you often, and missing you terribly We are also looking forward to seeing you all again on the other side, when we can share in our wonderful preschool adventures again. For now, know that we care about all of you and remember to choose kind and take care of those precious to you

23.01.2022 We love our benches, kindly donated by the NG Haynes Playgroup. We have made one of these into a "Buddy Bench", where children can sit when they feel like they have no-one to play with; all children are aware of this and come along to ask others to join in their play. The other bench is our "Solution Seat", where we can sit together and solve social problems that may arise, using our Pyramid Model solutions kit. Both of these benches and their purpose are supporting the children at Scoresby West to problem-solve, and to always CHOOSE KIND

23.01.2022 As we move into Stage 4 of restrictions in response to the Coronavirus crisis, we know that you will have lots of questions about kindergarten. We are waiting for confirmation from the State Government regarding the definition of both "permitted workers" and "vulnerable families". It is looking like we will only be open to families where both parents are required to attend their essential services work. Below is a letter which you should have received, or will soon receive f...rom Council: Dear Families, Subject: Knox City Councils Early Years Services (Childcare and Kindergarten) Stage 4 Restrictions By now you will be aware that the Premier of Victoria has declared a State of Disaster and announced Stage 4 restrictions for metropolitan Melbourne. These restrictions will be in place for a minimum of six weeks, until at least 13 September. Council takes its responsibility to our community very seriously and continues to follow the advice and guidance of the Victorian Government and relevant authorities. The Stage 4 restrictions will have a significant impact on the delivery of both kindergarten and childcare services delivered by Council. We appreciate that families will need information regarding these services as quickly as possible. We are currently working to provide an update by Tuesday afternoon, once we can consider what impact this will have for children, families and our staff over the next six weeks. We appreciate your patience and support as we work to keep you informed during a very uncertain time and concentrated timeframe. If you have any questions regarding this letter please contact Janine Brown, Manager Family and Childrens Services at [email protected] Please rest assured that as soon as we know anything further, we will communicate with you. Stay safe and well, and keep your precious children close

21.01.2022 Hi everyone! Due to the impact of Covid on visiting potential kindergartens, we have made a short video promoting our beautiful Scoresby West. Enrolments are now open at https://keysonline.knox.vic.gov.au/Public/Login.aspx Please share our video https://www.facebook.com/scoresbywestpreschool/videos/612837052919750/ to encourage more families to enrol at Scoresby West - thanks

21.01.2022 We are excited to be back with children and families from tomorrow! Here's to a happy, fun and productive (and hopefully uninterrupted) term

21.01.2022 Following a professional development session delivered in conjunction with VicRoads, we decided to include some important road safety messages in our program. As children learn through play, providing resources such as the VicRoads play mat and some road signs, they have now developed an interest in road signs and their meaning. Rather than adding small cars, we have also included Lego vehicle parts for the children to use their ideas and agency (choice) to create their own vehicles, thus embedding fine motor skills and creativity into the play also. This has been extended to include literacy development, as the children explore and recreate road signs.

21.01.2022 We are really happy to confirm that Mandy, Mandy and Suchi are all staying on as educators at Scoresby West in 2020

19.01.2022 Social skills are a better indicator of later success than academic ability

19.01.2022 We are very proud to announce that the Scoresby West community is a finalist in the 2020 HART (Helping Achieve Reconciliation Together) Awards! We and the community have worked together for our centre to become a culturally inclusive service, and are honoured to have been selected as a finalist Thanks to Cr Nicole Seymour for encouraging us to nominate :) http://www.reconciliationvic.org.au//hart-awards-finalists

18.01.2022 Playing outdoors is essential for developing creativity, symbolic play, hand-eye coordination and problem-solving. At Scoresby West, we encourage the children to use materials from nature in their play, and our beautiful sensory garden is a wonderful place for the hands-on learning occurring there

17.01.2022 what a wonderful time of the year!

15.01.2022 Literacy and Numeracy in Preschool: children begin to develop literacy skills when they are encouraged to express themselves and their ideas, communicating them to others verbally or visually - notice the drawn sign, that clearly states happy people are welcome and sad are not! Numeracy begins to develop when children explore mathematical concepts such as measuring, comparing, matching, sorting, counting, and most importantly, problem-solving. We have dedicated literacy and numeracy stations for the children to begin to use the tools they need to explore their world in these areas

15.01.2022 We are excited to let you all know that Mandy Rainbow and Mandy Purple will be staying at Scoresby West in 2021 We are both looking forward to another wonderful year here.

13.01.2022 Hello families Here we are again unfortunately... BUT... The advice from the Department of Education is as follows:... Dear early childhood education and care services, New restrictions metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire The new restrictions for metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire means people living in these areas can only leave their homes for the following reasons: shopping for essential food and supplies care and caregiving exercise study or work - if it cant be done from home. Early childhood education and care including sessional kindergarten The current advice from Victorias Chief Health Officer and the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) is that Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) services can continue to operate, with appropriate risk-mitigation measures in place (unless instructed by the Department of Health and Human Services to close). This means that ECEC services can continue to operate. This includes sessional kindergarten, which can return to on-site learning at the start of Term 3 on Monday 13 July. Regardless of where families live, their child can continue to attend ECEC, including kindergarten. Information about schools For all schools in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, there will be five pupil-free days from Monday 13 to Friday 17 July for all students, except for the following: Students enrolled in Years 11 and 12 Students in Year 10 enrolled in a VCE study, for VCE lessons Students enrolled in specialist schools These students will all attend on-site from Monday 13 July. During this time, schools will provide a program of care and supervision for those students whose parents/carers cannot work from home and for vulnerable students. The new arrangements will limit a significant number of people moving about these communities, while we give our health experts additional time to assess the local situation. Take care everyone, and please let us know if youre keeping your child at home as a precaution and would like any support

12.01.2022 With all that we are hearing about the coronavirus, it is important to support young children to reduce them feeling anxious Here is a link about how to discuss the virus with your children... https://www.pbs.org//how-to-talk-to-your-kids-about-corona... And a visual explanation...

10.01.2022 We are ready for you... Can't wait to see you all back at kinder next week

10.01.2022 This is our favourite "rule" when using the Teaching Pyramid with the children. Today, our young friend Wil used his kind words to ask for more water, saying: "It's nice to use kind words and gentle touches. If everyone did that, no-one would fight; we wouldn't even need the army. Imagine if the whole world was gentle, then the whole entire world would be peaceful" Not long 5 years old and he has worked out world peace

09.01.2022 Uncertainty abounds... At this stage, although were unsure how the differentiation has occurred, preschool will be forging ahead, although with reduced experiences to minimise the possibility of cross infection: for example, sensory play experiences, including sand have been banned. Please email Mandy (if you havent already let us know) at [email protected] if you are choosing to keep your child at home, so that we can know who to expect. ... Sorry for the late post - I thought that Council had communicated with families. Thanks everyone. We will get through this
