23.01.2022 Random Recall - Up The Freeway and Around The Bend! With the Bend Motorsport Park currently the epicenter of the Australian motorsport scene, as we are smack ba...ng in the middle between the two rounds of the Supercars being hosted at the latest and greatest motorsporting facility in the nation and more than likely the world. I thought it would be fitting to look back at the same piece of real-estate located just past the township of Tailem Bend and appromimently an hour and a quarter from the CBD of Adelaide. The photos in this post are from the Speed Trial event hosted by the Sporting Car Club of South Australia on Sunday the 15th of August 2004, just one of many ventures to the then Mitsubishi testing facility. This style of event was ran much like a cross between Drag Racing and Hillclimb where cars would do a burnout to warm up the tyres before entering the staging position and then run an individual pass from point to point in a straight-line to post the quickest time possible. While there was an entry list climbing towards 100 competitors for the day with cars ranging from open wheeled racecar, historic racecars to modern day performance street cars a number of these cars were co entered with two competitors sharing the wheelhouse duties and each driver would make several runs over the course of the day. The selected images are to illustrate how basic the venue and it's facilities once looked when Mitsubishi Motors Australia owned the land prior to the Shahin family purchasing and redeveloping the property into the multimillion dollar venue it is today. The drag strip was flanked by mounds on each side and down towards the bottom on the left hand side was a large skid pan area. The event officials and commentators would sit in the elevated room above the staging area. At this time it is also important to note that the track surface was to be upgraded and that management had restricted the top speed to 150kms per hour until the strip was resurfaced. These events were often conducted in a very family friendly and relaxed picnic atmosphere where you could smell the sausages sizzling on the BBQ's. On many occasions I would travel and or spend the day shooting with great motorsporting lensmen such as David Batchelor, Lachlan Rex, John Lemm and Phil Williams to name just a few. To celebrate this trip down memory lane I have posted a new Facebook gallery with many of my images from this event. You never know you may rekindle a memory of a car, a friend or even find an unseen photo of yourself? 21.01.2022 Guess Who - Double Trouble! Good morning Facebook Universe and welcome to this beautiful Saturday morning and I hope that you have a great weekend a head. The y...ear was 1994 and the place in question was the final season of Adelaide's Speedway Park. The Super Sedans and Street Stocks in these two flashback photos both display that crashes can and will happen on any given Saturday night at the skids. For my Motorsporting / Speedway Sedans friends I thought I would give you a little something to think about. Time to get your thinking caps on and try to workout who are the drivers in both the Super Sedans and Street Stock images. Have a wild guess at naming any of the drivers, see how many you can get right? I will give you a (L-R) hint: Super Sedans: 3, 28, 6, 7, 34 and 5 Street Stocks: 36, 8, 124, ?, 59, 41, 104 and 49 * There is a big bonus point if you can identify the black car on the outside in the Street Stock photo, I can't work it out? I will post the answer tonight around 6pm. Have a great day and God bless, PC Random Recall is proudly brought to you by: State Racing Magazine.

19.01.2022 Best prank ever.

19.01.2022 A must watch for all Speedway fans...

18.01.2022 Happy Birthday To You! South Australia's iconic Mallala Motorsport Park unfurled their first green flag on Saturday the 19th of August 1961. 59 years ago to th...is day, so I would like to take this opportunity to say Happy Birthday to a place that has played host to some of the best races and faces in the Motorsport industry. Before officially becoming a Motorsport facility the venue's land was used as a RAAF Air Base, anyway I digress... For just over a quarter of a century I have been very lucky to be a part of the Mallala Motorsport Park Media Crew having photographed and scribed for many publications which include Auto Action, Motor Racing Australia, Motorave, Motorsport News and in more recent times State Racing Magazine. I have also been extremely fortunate to also have worked for iconic promoter and all round nice guy Clem Smith (RIP) on various occasions over the last decade as a commentator working alongside Motorsport identities like Michael Agius, Mark Nancarrow and Matt Bubner to name a few hosting events like MallaNats, G1 Drift, SA Time Attack and just pre COVID the Street Machine Magazine SuperNats. Before I sign off I would like share some photos from the final time the iconic venue hosted the Shell Australian Touringcar Championship / V8 Supercars, round 6 over the 2224 of May 1998. My memories of the weekend was what Motorsport was all about and the venue was jam packed to the rafters with fans crammed into every vantage point. Sadly this would be the last time the popular series appeared for official points at the venue. Being South Aussie proud, on this occasion we had three local competitors take to the track in the V8 Supercars events. #8 Russell Ingall, #38 Mark Poole and #39 Chris Smerdon all piloting Holden VS Commodores. Ingall proved to be a popular hometown hero, taking the victory for the weekend aboard his Castrol / Perkins entry. On a personal level I sponsored my good mate and proud Novacastrian #45 Wayne Russell as his team stayed at my Salisbury North home, I did the team photos and a feature story for Motorave Magazine. My housemate at the time Anthony Lifshack pit crewed and we used his ute as the pit transporter to take race equipment from the garage to pit lane..... Great times and memories made. Once again I would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to Mallala Motorsport Park. Clem, sadly we all miss you but I am sure that you will be smiling as you look down at your venue knowing that it is still rolling along nicely under the new management group. I am thankful for all of my time spent at the venue and having met many Motorsport greats and made many friends along the journey. Post COVID I hope to be invited back again to slide on a headset located on the second floor of the tower of power on the front straight and call a few events and or slip down to turn one with my trusty Canon camera and capture some more moments in history. Until then, God bless and take care, PC :)

16.01.2022 CAR RECALL OVER BRAKE SHAFT FAILURE Mitsubishi is recalling 2 of its popular SUV models over a risk of injury or death due to brake shaft issues. The 2015 ASX... model and 2016 Outlander have been recalled, affecting 8847 vehicles according to Product Safety Australia. The cars are being recalled due to a failure of the anti-rust coating, which could see in result forming on the parking brake shaft. This could see the brake shaft become stuck and not engage. "This may increase the risk of an accident, which may result in an injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders," the authority said. Mitsubishi Motors Australia will contact all known owners by mail, advising them to present their vehicle to their preferred Mitsubishi dealer for inspection and repair, free of charge.

11.01.2022 Random Recall - Before the 2016 Harvey Norman Supergirls wildcard entry for Bathurst piloted by Simona De Silvestro and Renee Gracie, today's 'Random Recall' Mo...torsport photos takes us back to the 1997 running of event and the emergence of South Australia's Kerryn Brewer who teamed up with Melinda Price to form the Castrol Cougas Team racing under the Castrol Perkins Engineering banner at selected rounds of the Shell Australian Touringcar Championship. The 1997 Primus Bathurst 1000 event proved to be a successful venture for the all girl team, having finished in a very creditable 12th position after starting from the rear of the 41 car grid after crashing during qualifying. The following season (1998) the girls came back for another crack at the Mountain and went one better to finish 11th in the FAI 1000 Classic. Prior to the the running of that event I recall going to Kerryn's house in Paralowie, just around the corner from where I was living in Salisbury North to take her profile photo for the Chevron Publishing produced 1998 Bathurst program (photo below) it was the first time that I spoke with Kerryn and I found her to be a really nice and polite person. At the end of that season the team was dissolved but the following season Kerryn found an opportunity to drive the #98 Owen Parkinson Racing CSA Wheels Holden VS Commodore in her home state at the 1999 Sensational Adelaide 500 which was the inaugural running of the Adelaide 500 street race. Kerryn claimed 26th in the opening leg of the 40 car field and unfortunately failed to finish the final 250km leg on the Sunday. After that I lost track of Kerryn's career, but I can recall where it began in her earlier days cutting her teeth in Karting, Super Karts and HQ Holdens at Mallala Motorsport Park. In 1994 Kerryn became the Australian 100cc non-Gearbox Super Kart Champion aboard her Benson-Yamaha. Wherever Kerryn is today I wish her and family all of the best going forward and I hope that they are living happily and healthy. Thanks for the memories. 10.01.2022 #1 What's Old Is New Again... In recent times I have been discussing with the good people at Auto Action about the possibility of bringing Speedway back to the ...pages of Australia's largest and longest running motorsport publication and after some back and forth here we are Speedway fans and I am proud to say, Speedway is back! The newest edition (1803 - Jan 28 - Feb 10, 2021) of Auto Action has hit the Newsagents today so I encourage you all to get out there and purchase a copy and if you have time contact Auto Action and give them some love'n for their pages again has oval track dirt racing. :) Thank you to Bruce and the AA team and also the fantastic assistance I have recieved from ace lensmen, but more importantly longtime mates Ray Ritter and Brett Swanson. We now as a team have the opportunity to expose our sport that we love to the many readers. From a personal point of view it is humbling to come full circle, Australian Auto Action issue 601 (01.09.1994) was my first published photo in Auto Action and I remained as a semi regular contributor til 1997 and since then a few bits n' pieces here and there. A quarter of a century later I'm back heading up the Speedway writing section and if my health allows, getting back to more motorsport photography. It is no secret that I have been away from the dirt track world of Speedway racing while I have been battling a health issue that seems to be a never-ending challenge but fear not I will kick this in the ass as hard and often as I need to. But on the other side of the coin that has also brought me some blessings and I have been able to spend much more time with my 8-year-old son, family and my loved ones. Thanks guys, Paris :) #autoaction

09.01.2022 Attention learner drivers! Officers took part in the monthly Learner Night Drive at Sydney Motorsport Park last week. The free program, which is facilitated by... Australian Racing Drivers' Club and Driving Solutions, allows learners the opportunity to drive around the race track without the pressures of other motorists, oncoming traffic or traffic lights. Traffic and Highway Patrol Command - NSW Police Force officers setup a mock RBT site where the learner drivers can practice approaching and navigating the site, and then have the opportunity to talk to officers about their concerns and officers talk about common issues with novice drivers. Fire and Rescue NSW also take part in the night, driving around the track with learners and engaging their lights and sirens at random points so the learner drivers can practice what to do when emergency vehicles approach. The program is run the first Tuesday of every month. The program is free and while spots fill quickly, we are looking at ways to expand the program to regional areas due to the success of the Sydney based program.

09.01.2022 Super Sedans - Super Memories Hi Speedway fans, as the Facebook Universe barrel's into what promises to be an exciting weekend I just thought that i would share... some memories and honor two iconic South Australian Super Sedan competitors Steve Stewart and Robbie Marchant who tore up the oval tracks over many decades of exciting door to door competition. The SA47 of Stewart and Marchant's SA87 both also shared the SA1 mantle and at their times both were considered to be major movers and shakers on the national scene in a time when the racing was considered to be more innovative as competitors would build and engineer their own machinery. My first memories of Steve Stewart was watching the SA47 black attack EH Holden and then Trans AM tearing around the Speedway Park complex in the 1980's while my earliest memory of Robbie Marchant was around 1976/77 when my Dad introduced me to him at the legendary Rowley Park Speedway. It was in the pits and I got to sit in his car at the end of the night, at the time I was about 4 years old and it was the most awesome thing. These two drivers have given me and many others a lifetime of memories. Steve is still involved as he and his wife Wendy own the SA47 currently piloted by Ryan Alexander while the evergreen Robbie continues to this day to man the wheelhouse of the SA87 entry. In closing I would like to say thank you to Steve, Robbie and their respective team members for keep us fans entertained for over 5 decades. I know racing is their passion and they race to win but I have always considered us fans to be the winner as these and many other fearless throttle stompers have given us a lifetime of memories. So to all of my family and friends....enjoy your weekend, God bless and take care, PC :)

The home owner confronted the two men and was subsequently assaulted. The victim believes there may have been more people present at the time. He was taken to the Mt Barker Hospital for treatment of a head injury. The victim’s Holden Torana was then loaded on to a car trailer possibly being towed by a 4WD with a high clearance. Pictured is the stolen 1973 gold Holden Torana with SA registration RZE650. Anyone who sees the stolen car or knows of its whereabouts is asked to contact the police assistance line on 131 444. Detectives from Mount Barker CIB are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au/

07.01.2022 1 Venue, 1 Night, 2, 3 n' 4 Wheels Back in the old days (for me 1976-79) of Rowley Park Speedway, I only have sketchy memories at best. From the age of 4 my Da...d (RIP) would take me to the track and Promoter Kym Bonython would always have a large crowd, I recall wall to wall people as I sat with my Dad near the old Ansett Airlines sign. Where in the venue was that, well I have no idea but I remember the sign, anyway I digress. The people would come from far and wide. We would make the trip from the northern suburb of Salisbury East and many others would venture from all points of the compass. I think it may have been so popular was because there was something for everyone. I can recall the night starting off with a Marching Band, a little bit of pageantry and the unique Bonython flair for entertainment as the crowd settled in. The Solo's would roar into action followed by the fearless Sidecar brigade and the night would conclude with the car divisions giving everybody a taste of 2, 3 and four wheeled entertainment. My Dad was a bike fan, having swung on a Sidecar before I was born but me, I was addicted to the Sedans. The Coca-Cola 99 Torana of Tony Orlando was my favorite. I remember in the final year of the Park, SANFL Margarey Medal winner John Duckworth from Central Districts did a parade lap sitting on the the 99 Torana and as a kid that was an unforgettable memory. Both Speedway and SANFL Football have both played a major part in my younger years. The distinct smell in the air, the aroma was addictive, I recall asking my Dad what the sweet smell was? 'A combination of the Castrol Rimula 40 Oil and having a good time at the skids'. he replied. Another memorable moment for me was getting to sit in Robbie Marchant's SA87 Saloon Car in the pits after a meeting as Dad knew Robbie and I thought that was way cool. Even though my Dad had raced himself and played SANFL football for the Woodville Woodpecker's the coolest thing to me as a 4 year old was that he knew Robbie Marchant! After Rowley Park came Speedway Park and new chapter would begin in very much the same fashion with a wide and varied program of racing but as the years went on the bikes became less and less of the action and before too long it was car dominated. The next evolution of the venue was Speedway City and Promoter Wendy Turner tried to bring back some of the old Rowley Park traditions, A Scottish Pipe band to open the season and the bikes were back although just for a brief tenure with the main attraction being the Ivan Major Golden Helmet Series, a night that would see South Australian Craig Hodgson (RIP) claim the win. During this time period the Riverview Speedway in Murray Bridge would continue with this successful formula but unfortunately that would also come to an end. Fast forward to Saturday the 5th of January 2002 and the variety night would return with a major event incorporating 2,3 and four wheeled action. The main attraction was the Australian Joey's v Young Lions of Great Britain U/23 2nd Test of the 9 match series. The Australian Team consisted of Travis McGowan, Nigel Sadler, Brett Woodifield, Ford Keane, Nathan Hedley, Scott James and Brendon Mackay while the Young Lions would line up with Danny Bird, Lee Smethills, Blair Scott, Carl Wilkinson, Paul Lee, David Meldrum and Ritchie Hawkins. The Aussie's would claim the night to square up the series at one a piece with a 49 to 41 points victory and eventually take the test series 5 to 4. The event started with a dance troupe and also on the night were the Sidecars, Super Sedans, Modified Sedans and the V6 Sprints were also on hand for the open wheel fans. Now this night contained no Sprintcars or major Championships but it was a night that proved prominent despite all of the other events that had come and gone from the Murray Bridge venue, why is that? 1 Venue, 1 Night, 2, 3 n' 4 Wheels, something for everybody as it took me back to my childhood and the formula of Rowley Park Speedway. Now I understand that Speedway has evolved and track conditions, etc have changed but maybe, just maybe while there are still a good handful of old school Speedway purists among us could it be feasible to host one night a year where we honor the days of Rowley Park with modern day machinery and old school entertainment? I would like to think that one day in many summers down the line my boy will one day tell his kids about the times his Dad would take him to the track and the variety that was on display. God bless and take care, PC :)

05.01.2022 A1 and The Pontiac Attack! In South Australian Super Sedan racing this car and driver combination was considered to be the best of his time and without doubt o...ne of the best of all time. It is also considered by many that this second generation driver retired while he was at the top of his game and if he continued on he may have caught lightning in a bottle for a second time? The man at the wheelhouse of the Pontiac Attack was Brad Scotcher who piloted the Scotcher Race Fuels & Oils SA50 to many victories including the 1991/92 Australian Super Sedan Championship at his home track Speedway Park Virginia, South Australia. On the night that Scotcher would claim the number 1 mantle he was chased to the line by New South Welshmen John Leslight and Allan Baker. Brad was the first South Aussie to capture the title since Chris Blunden managed to find the fastest way home aboard his Monier sponsored Commodore in the 1983/84 running of the jewel in the crown also held at Speedway Park and on that occasion fellow South Aussie Steve Stewart would claim the runner up position and Victorian Gary Chippendall (RIP) would round out the podium. Since the inception of the Australian Super Sedan Championship in 1971/72 it would be fair to say that as a collective South Australia has fought hard but but struggled to find the results it could have been capable of. In more recent years Dave Gartner and Ryan Alexander have been the standouts on the national level as each has come agonizingly close to being crowned as the A1 competitor. Both have achieved this honor in other divisions of racing. Dave (Street Stocks) and Ryan (AMCA Nationals). Blunden was the first SA driver to win the title and post that race only a handful of the Crow Eaters have managed to take a top 3 step on the podium: 1983/84 Chris Blunden (1st) 1983/84 Steve Stewart (2nd) 1985/86 Kym Cottrell (3rd) 1986/87 Gary Reuter (3rd) 1988/89 Peter Drew (3rd) 1991/92 Brad Scotcher (1st) 1999/00 Bill Miller (RIP) (3rd) 2009/10 Dave Gartner (2nd) 2015/16 Dave Gartner (2nd) 2016/17 Dave Gartner (2nd) 2018/19 Ryan Alexander (2nd) 2019/20 Ryan Alexander (2nd). In the 48 years in the running of this event the national title has been hosted in South Australia 9 times; Rowley Park Speedway x1 - 1975/76 Speedway Park x3 - 1983/84, 1985/86 and 1991/92 Borderline Speedway x2 - 1998/99 and 2019/20 Murray Bridge Speedway 2x - 2003/04 and 2013/14 Speedway City x1 - 2009/10 As we navigate our way through this challenging COVID pandemic, it is fair to say that the future poses an unknown factor as we move towards the 2020/21 season. The only thing that we can be sure of at this point is that when the green flag is waved all of our South Aussie Super Sedan competitors will be putting their best wheels forward in a bid to strive towards claiming the Aussie #1 mantle and adding their name to the list of the SA elite as honored above. God bless and take care, PC :)

05.01.2022 The only bird that dares to catch an American Eagle is the crow. He sits on his back and bites their neck. However, the eagle does not respond or fight; he does... not waste his time or energy with the crow. It just spreads its wings and starts flying as high as possible in the sky. The higher the flight, the more difficult it is for the crow to breathe and then it detaches from it due to lack of oxygen. Stop wasting your time with crows, take them to your height and they will disappear! See more

04.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS - Valvoline Raceway Season Postponed Many Speedway people around the nation have waited with baited breath to see what the biggest and most well s...upported venue in the land will do in regards to the commencement of the 2020/21 season. The rumors around the back streets and alley ways have ran rife for quite a while and now we have official word from the Made Too Go management group who currently hold the tenure of 3 main Speedway venues... -------------------------------------------------- Release from Valvoline Raceway: Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic restrictions and border lockouts, it is with regret that the Management of Valvoline Raceway announce that the scheduled start to the 2020/21 season on October 3rd will be postponed until further notice. The management team will continue to monitor the restrictions and guidelines set by the NSW government but is not expected to give a further update until November. As this will be the last Season at Valvoline Raceway before the Government take over the venue, we will schedule in racing as soon as it is safe to do so. -------------------------------------------------- With this being said and done in New South Wales, I wonder what this will do to the upcoming season at the Murray Machining & Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway? With South Australia's COVID conditions different to that of the eastern seaboard and not to mention the even stricter restrictions currently enforced in Victoria it will be interesting to see what the 'Made Too Go' management team do at their other venues. From a personal perspective my heart goes out to all sporting codes administrators, promoters, clubs, competitors, corporate partners and fans. I wish you all the very best going forward and I hope that you stay safe and healthy in this most challenging time. God bless and take care, PC :)
