24.01.2022 Lest we forget.

23.01.2022 People should be able to enjoy their right to freedom of thought, conscience, religion and belief however, the manifestation or expression of their religion ...and beliefs should not harm or demean others, nor should it automatically be privileged over other rights. The Uniting Church's submission to the latest round of consultations on the Religious Discrimination bill argues the proposed laws will not adequately balance the human rights of all Australians. You can read the submission in full here and UCA President Dr Deidre Palmer's address to a public forum on the Bills.

23.01.2022 In her annual Easter Sunday video message, the President of the Uniting Church in Australia Dr Deidre Palmer has said Australians are standing with each other in a time of crisis and trauma.

22.01.2022 Well I have to say that today’s church service at Scots was a little different! Partway during the inspiring sermon delivered by Rev Sue Ellis, there was a loud bang and the fire alarms sounded. This means, of course, that we had to evacuate the building! As we waited outside, the SA Fire Service attended. Eventually the building was declared to be safe so we all returned to the church to hear Sue give a summing up of the sermon! Then we retired to the church hall for morning tea where the discussion topic was What just happened? An eventful morning indeed!

15.01.2022 On this Day of Pentecost and Reconciliation Sunday, we share with you this Prayer of Lament and Confession, thanks to Rev. Mark Schultz and the SA Synod Reconci...liation Sunday resource. Gracious God of All, we with hearts of thanksgiving. We acknowledge that we receive so many gifts at Your hands and we thank You for them all. However, we also gather in the knowledge that there have been times when we, in part or in whole, have caused loss, hurt and pain. At this time, we humbly acknowledge the actions that have been taken by us which caused pain or loss to the First Peoples of our land, for the years it took for the First Peoples to be embraced by the Church, for the mistreatment, abuse and neglect of those vulnerable people who placed their faith in the church and its care, for the lack of welcome and cold hearts, for harsh words, lack of care, ignorance, insensitivity and pride that have damaged relationships and the people so dear to You. We are sorry for these sins against you and First Peoples, our brothers and sisters. We pray for forgiveness and reconciliation. As you brought reconciliation through Your Son, Jesus Christ, we pray that you will also enable all of us to become reconciled to one another through the power of Your Spirit. Amen By Rev. 10.01.2022 "We just want to help the Church in particular, and other people to understand that there was pain, there was suffering." "But we all have shared history now, ...as we live in this country, and how do we then go forward? "How do we help with the injustice for Aboriginal people? How do we help work together towards a better future?" Rev. Garry Dronfield, UAICC - Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress National President, talks about UCA #DayofMourning services.

06.01.2022 On this Sunday, the 19th of January 2020, Uniting Church congregations are invited to observe a Day of Mourning to reflect upon and lament the effect of the inv...asion and colonisation on Australia's First Peoples. The Uniting Church acknowledges through the Preamble to the UCA Constitution, the dispossession, violence and decimation of First Peoples. We lament the fact that as a Church and as Second Peoples we were and remain complicit. Our decision to declare a Day of Mourning annually from 2019 is a way in which we stand together in Covenantal relationship with members of the UAICC - Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress and all First Peoples - to honour, remember and acknowledge the truth of our history. Resources for worship are available on the Assembly website. https://assembly.uca.org.au/day-of-mourning
