22.01.2022 One very strange year. This year has been a strange one for the ESA team. Not being able to run our normal camps the team did what the team does best and found new ways to support their local and wider community. The team has learnt one wonderful thing during this time, we really aren’t that far away and getting together to pray, study and connect is easy through zoom. After a few miss starts and lots of ‘I think you are on mute’ the team now meet each week. They have used th...is time to update manuals and share ideas. Scott has also used zoom to connect with our leaders near and far. Bringing the leaders from different camps together to talk about their experiences and struggles. One thing that we loved seeing was the first thing they started talking about was their youth groups and how they were still connecting with them. They started swapping ideas about activities, it was wonderful to see their passion for youth and sharing God’s love continuing through the hard times. Scott has also continued to connect with pastors and personal support individuals from our ESA community. This has meant hours on the phone and he has found the best way to do this is to walk and talk, so hundreds of kilometres have been walked! See more

22.01.2022 Songs for reflection. If you know our family, you will know that if the Ronalds’ are around then music is not far away. Even on a camping trip with the beautiful sound of nature all... around, Scott can only last so long before the music comes on and we are all dancing and singing along. Songs and their lyrics are one way that God speaks us as a couple and family. Over the last year we have had a lot of up and down times. We have found that one or two songs seem to just keep coming up. In February we got to go to our first concert in 10 years and it was fan- tastic!! As a family we love Rend Collective. With an adult friendly kids album they are a go to favourite, if you haven’t heard of them, it’s well worth the listen. When we got out of the concert, it struck us just how humble they were using their concert to call people to God just like they do in their music. While I could talk about so many of their lyrics, there are two that have stuck with me. The Joy of the Lord is my strength from the song The Joy of the Lord, so often we look at the world around us and see all the things we want God to change. We want him to remove the hard times and just make life easier but that is not what God wants. He wants us to remember that whatever we are facing, we have Him with us and we have joy and a future. One of the new songs we heard was called Sing It From The Shackles and one of the lines that really made me think was ‘When my heart needs a miracle You will come through You're my deliverer’. The more I think about this line the more it speaks. When we spend all our time looking for a way out or waiting to change we forget there is joy here now. Sometimes it’s our hearts that need to change not our circumstances. God can do this for us, we just need to ask him and follow his lead. He can give us joy and peace in every situation. See more

19.01.2022 This year has taught me one thing, it’s the little things that matter. This year has been full of hard times, not only at a personal level but also because we have seen and heard of so many struggling. However this year has also brought some real eye opening and heart warming moments through which God has shown us how little things can make a big impact and connection is so important. Whether it was a meal dropped off after a friend heard of our hard week, or the chalk drawin...g on our driveway from the next door neighbours kids, the flowers from Scott and family to just brighten my day, the video check up calls from family and friends, or the fence chat with next door to vent over remote learning, these things have become so important this year. God has always brought a little something along just when we have each needed it. I would love you to take a moment to reflect on the little things God has brought you and your family this year. As we start to open up I would also like to encourage you to continue looking for the little things and making time for the things that you have found so important to get through this year. We will each find getting back to normal different, some might find it hard to venture out again, others will struggle as their work has taken a really hard hit while others will just bounce back. I pray that you continue to care for those around you, listen and encourage those who are finding it hard, support your local businesses as they get back on their feet, put effort into the relationships that matter to you, and be kind to yourself. Continue to ask God what you can do today to show His love for others. See more

15.01.2022 Virtual Junior camp. Over the easter holidays the much loved camp Gippsland Junior camp was un- able to run. This was very sad for our team and the campers that had already signed up. To start with we thought that was it, we... just had to miss camp this year, however God had other plans. As I sat scrolling through my facebook page I found an ad for a virtual holiday program, it caught my attention but I let it go. Later that night, the ad popped up again and this time I felt a push to have a look at how they were going about it. So I did and the idea of virtual Jr camp would just not leave my mind. As I talked through the idea with Scott, it be- came clear that he thought I was crazy, but I just believed it would work and was need- ed. God helped me find a team and a great last minute speaker, and although Scott still thought I was nuts he was great with the kids and very supportive. Camp was up and running. We had 18 kids sign up and 13 attended every session! We played games together, worshiped God and talked about God. In the after- noon we broke into groups and did workshop activities like indoor cubby building and cooking. The campers were a little shy to start with but by the end of the camp they enjoyed their time together and had lots of fun. We received some great feedback from parents and campers. We are really thankful that God helped us to make connections and spread his word while stuck at home! We are looking forward to what he has in store for us and are thinking through how we can use virtual camps in the future. See more

11.01.2022 And just like that Gippsland Virtual Junior camp is over. Yesterday was our final day of camp and we were all sad to be finishing. Although camp was really diff...erent we all enjoyed making new friends and catching up with old ones. We built cubbies, created craft master pieces and enjoyed cooking and eating rum balls and honey joys. Many laughs were had and we learnt lots about God and his back to front, upside down Kingdom. Over this last few days God has reminded us all that although life is a little different at the moment we can still connect with each other and enjoy learning about God. The ESA pastoral works are busy thinking outside the square and working out how they can continue to do God’s work during this time. Watch this space for more information on upcoming events! Thankyou so much! I had lots of fun! It was good we could have camp online and meet kids and learn about God. Thanks to all the leaders. See you at the next camp! - Ollie, Jr Camper
