17.01.2022 An early morning in Houston Vivint Houston Open

15.01.2022 30 years ago, Phil Mickelson won on TOUR for the first time. Today he hoisted his sixth major championship trophy at age 50.

15.01.2022 From Bill Harmon Random thoughts about the Masters: Many, many years ago my dad opined that Augusta was not necessarily a hookers course. He explained that o...n most holes all the trouble was on the left off the tee. Holes 1,2,5,7,8,9,10,11,13,14,15 were the holes that were harder to play from a left miss. At the time he mentioned Jimmy Demerat a notorious fader or the ball won 3 Masters and of course Jack 6 Masters. He didn’t mean that drawing the ball wasn’t good but didn’t believe that you HAD to draw it to be successful. Many of the modern day bombers play left to right now and certainly DJ would fit that mold. Looked like when he wanted to draw it he used a 3 wood , conventional wisdom says it’s easier to draw more lofted clubs. DJ, to me is the most physically gifted player I’ve seen in a long time. I walked 9 holes with him in a late nine hole practice round at Winged Foot and his preparation was very thorough. He , Austin and CH111 were all business. He hit a handful of shots that day that showed he was different. Just like Jack, Tiger, Seve, Shark and Lee would do when I caddied for Jay Haas. It didn’t make any difference if your player beat them that day, they would all hit shots like no one else. DJ is in that elite group. His best is better than anyone else right now IMO. Having volunteered at the US OPEN I got to see close up how much attention to detail it took to run a major championship in Covid times. The USGA did an unbelievable job at the WF OPEN and I suspect the Masters did the same. Congrats to all the 3 major championships for getting it done against all odds. Three uniquely different champions. I was intrigued (like many) watching Bryson all week. It seemed like all the hype was on him and he created most of it. He seemed to seek and bring lots of attention to himself in the weeks leading up to the event and then when he arrived. I wondered before the event if that was going to be to his advantage. I couldn’t figure out how it would be. I’m quite certain the other elite players don’t give a rats ass about his diet, weight gain, CHS, length of his drivers and what he considers his par to be at Augusta. If he would have played to his par of 67 he would have tied DJ. I wonder if he will have the same look at me, look at me approach in April. Perhaps he will and may perform well that way......maybe likes being the center of attention. One tournament isn’t a big enough sample size. Wonder if his advisors will want the same in April, we shall see. All three majors produced great champions, three players that won each major, no one handed anything. Good for the sport. Cudos for Bernhard Langer for a wonderful Masters topped off by outscoring BC the last round even though he was getting out driven 75 yards every hole! Will be interesting moving forwards to see if the stars of today will be making cuts at Augusta in their mid 60’s. The other tournament brought attention to a few bright young starts in Smith, Im and Ancer. Will be interesting to see what they glean out of this experience. Well.....next Masters is just a few months away.....is it here yet!!
