25.01.2022 Last Monday night, we kicked off our club contests for 2020. We had the Table Topics and Evaluations speeches, it was a fantastic night. Alex our test speaker received some helpful feedback from his test speech, thank you Alex for visiting our club. The meeting was very well attended by members and guests. Contest Chairs Tony and Ian kept the meeting on schedule. Congratulations to all of our contestants, especially to our first timer participants. A special Congratulations t...o our winners for the evening. Table Topics - Mark (1st), Tony (2nd) & Liane (3rd) Evaluations - Rob (1st), Helen (2nd) Thank you also to our judges and the helpers who helped out in the background. 24.01.2022 Another great meeting last Tuesday night. A polished presentation as Toastmaster by Matt well supported by Natasha, an excellent Ice Breaker from Liane, a solid Table Topics session lead my Garry all of which followed on after an entertaining Round Robin segment introduced by Kathleen. As the meeting drew to a close Mary gave all present an overview of the meeting that contained a wealth of in-depth observations and helpful hints. Congratulations to our winners for the evening, Max for best Humorous, Ray for best Table Topics, Sam for best Toastmaster Choice, Liane for best speech and Mark for Evaluation. Well done to all! Our next meeting will be Tuesday 2 Oct, it will be part 2 of our Club Contest with Table Topics and International speeches. Everyone is welcome!

23.01.2022 Area 18 Conference News What an fantastic conference! The Area 18 conference was well attended by members and guests. Sasi our area director did an amazing job organising the conference. A big Congratulations to Sasi and TM Clubs Bunya, Clayfield, Western Suburbs, Stafford Heights and Chermside for running such a successful day! ... The standard of the speeches were amazing, every speech was a winning performance. Congratulations to the following place getters in the Contest; Humorous - Ben (1st) , Fiona (2nd) & Tommy (3rd) Table Topics - Tommy (1st), Fiona (2nd) & Abhishek (3rd) International - Ally (1st), Steve (2nd) & Cheryl (3rd) Evaluations- Mile (1st), Lynn (2nd) & Bill (3rd) Congratulations to Stafford Heights member Ben who placed first place in the Humorous Contest, Ben will now go to the Moreton Division Conference to represent Area 18 in early 2020. Also congratulations to Lynn for an outstanding performance in the Evaluations contest, Lynn did Stafford Heights very proud and placed second. Well done to Mark (Table Topics) and Ray (International) for representing Stafford Heights, they did not place but certainly made a lasting impression. Thank you to the Club members for assisting with the Humorous Contest, Nick, Elizabeth, Mark, Anne and Contest Chairs Anne and Tony! Well done all!

This course is now fully booked, if you have missed out on a a spot this time make sure you stay tune to our facebook and webpage for future course dates. Our courses do get booked very quickly so contact us today to register your interest. Meanwhile, feel free to come and join us at one of regular club meetings. Club Meetings - We have started the year off with a bang! Our first two meetings f...or 2019 have been very well attended by members and guests. If you want to get better at public speaking either for work or personal reasons, why not come and join us, your fear of public speaking will slowly disappear while having fun. 19.01.2022 Another great meeting last Tuesday night. Our fun and entertaining Toastmaster Helen lead the evening with much humour and cheer. Many of our members and guests thoroughly enjoyed the meeting. Recent new member Jade gave an excellent Ice Breaker (first speech ever) and made us think about our careers. 15.01.2022 Last Saturday was the Area 18 Conference, Congratulations to our Area Director Maria who produced a great day that was enjoyed by all present. Special thanks also must go to SHTM members who supported and assisted on the day, Ian, Rob, Tony, Sam, Bob, Anne, Alex, Lyn, Liane and Ray. Everyones support was very appreciated. Competition was tough, but SHTM managed to take home some placings from the day. Evaluation - Matt (2nd), Mark (4th)... Table Topics - Mark (2nd) Humorous - Helen (1st), Mark (2nd) International - Matt (1st), Ray (2nd) Great results from our members which is also a great result for our club as a whole. Individual results are achieved with the support, advice and guidance from the team in the background. SHTM club members are that background team. Well done to all. Matt and Helen will be representing STHM next March 2019 at the Divisional Conference. Go Matt and Helen!

15.01.2022 SPEECHCRAFT IS BACK IN JULY 2020 ! Following a break due to the COVID-19 lockdown, we are pleased to announce that our popular Public Speaking Workshop is back. The next workshop commences on Monday 20th July.... What is Speechcraft? Speechcraft is a program run by Toastmasters and designed to help you develop effective and energetic public speaking and leadership skills. The course consists of six 2-hour workshops held weekly from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Who can attend? The course is open to anyone over 18. (Courses can sometimes be arranged to accommodate 16 18 year-olds) How much does it cost? The cost is $100 for the full six-week course including course materials. Where is it held? The course is held at Chermside Community Health Centre, 490 Hamilton Rd, Chermside, in the HACC Training Room. There is plenty of free, easy parking right outside the room. When is the next course? The next course is scheduled for 20th July to 24th August.

14.01.2022 News Update - On Tues 20 Nov, the club held its Interpretive and New Speaker Contest, we had a number of participates who competed for the first time. The New Speaker Contest gave our newer speakers the opportunity to compete against their fellow club members in a friendly environment. Congratulations to all of our new speakers who participated and placed. Lyn (1st), Chris (2nd) and Liane (3rd)... The Interpretive Contest was well contested by a number of our experienced speakers, This contest allowed each speaker to examine a piece of literature and the opportunity to offer his/hers perspective regarding the original written work. Well done to all who assisted and made the night a great success.

13.01.2022 Club News On Tues 2nd April, the club held its Tall Tales Contest. It was well contested by a number of our experienced and newer speakers. This contest allowed each speaker to tell a story where the speaker walks the fine line between reality and fiction, fact and fantasy, truth and deception. The best tall tales are the ones where the audience doesnt know where the speaker was just exaggerating the facts.... Congratulations to all of our speakers who participated and placed. 10.01.2022 SPECIAL CLUB NOTICE - FACE-to-FACE club meetings to recommence in JULY Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, face-to-face club meetings were replaced from 31st March, with on-line Zoom meetings. We are pleased to announce that our regular meetings will recommence in July in line with Queensland Governments roadmap to easing restrictions. This means that we will be able to once again welcome guests to our meetings from 21st July 2020 (subject to certain limitations).... 07.01.2022 News Catch Up - Our club meeting on 30th November was well received by guests and members. It was a successful meeting with a educational segment by Tony. Tony spoke to us all about the inner critic, those negative thoughts that tell us we cant do something, especially when it comes to public speaking. Tony gave us all some helpful tips to over come the inner critic. 06.01.2022 Have you ever wondered what Table Topics is all about? Taking on this role improves confidence and impromptu speaking skills. Table Topics is a long-standing Toastmasters tradition intended to help members develop their ability to organize their thoughts quickly and respond to an impromptu question or topic.... The Topics master, who will give a brief description of Table Topics and then call on respondents at random. Your response should express your thoughts clearly and succinctly, lasting one to two minutes. Why not give it go now and test yourself? 05.01.2022 Last Tues, 4 Dec SHTM held their final meeting for 2018 at the Aspley Hornets. It was a fantastic Christmas meeting with excellent food and plenty of laughter. Guests and members thoroughly enjoyed the evening and were entertained with Table Topics, Best Joke, Best Group Act and Celebrity Heads. One of our recent Speechcrafters wrapped up our 6 week workshop with the following poem she wrote, thanks Shardia! Its hard to believe our time together is coming to an end This means that from our soapboxes, we sadly must descend. We are eternally grateful, to each one of the Toastmasters Team With their teachings on language use meaning our speeches werent obscene. We acknowledge the hours they all put in each week just to prepare We appreciate their reassurances though it didnt always subside our fear. Thank you to Ray for coordinating and meeting our every need Thanks to the Time Keepers, for ensuring our time limits we did not exceed. Thanks to the Feedback Providers for telling us what deep down we already know And thank you to the Presenters for sharing their knowledge to help us grow. Then finally I must say thank you to those we have dreaded from day one The Umm and Argh Counters though regrettably its a habit many have not overcome. I must say that its been an honour doing this journey with my fellow Speechcrafters I now cant wait to see if any of you choose to become my fellow Toastmasters. Thanks Shardia, nicely said. 02.01.2022 Next week, Tuesday 7th August, we are meeting socially at Aspley Hornets, 50 Graham Road; from 6:30pm. We have booked a function room there and some members will be bringing their partners and having a meal. The format for the evening is under wraps, but you are welcome to come along and join in the fun. If you would like a meal, you can order from the Bistro (they do a two-for-one deal on Tuesday nights); or from the Caf. However, the choice to eat there or not is entirely up to you. Our next club meeting will be back at our usual venue, the HACC Training Room in the Prince Charles Hospital Complex, 490 Hamilton Road; on Tuesday, 21st August. You are welcome to join us then for a more traditional TM meeting.
