25.01.2022 Congratulations to Kathy Bonus and Ailsa Miller, the inaugural life members of the Scottish Highland Dance Promotion Ass inc. Thank you to them for their years of dedication and support they have given our dancers . We would not be where we are today without these two fabulous ladies.
25.01.2022 Our calendars have always been our reminder of our year past and to give everyone our dates for events in the following year. 2020 has been a very different year for our class as with highland dancing around the world with Perth only holding one competition and only one Championship in Melbourne that some of our dancers were lucky enough to travel to and compete at the Australian Commonwealth. Here is hoping that next year together with all dancers we do get to the events that we have on our 2021 calendar.
24.01.2022 Let’s hope this comes off . Congratulations to last years winners especially our Millie, Lily, Morven and Rachel. Hoping we will all be celebrating in 2020.
24.01.2022 This is a message we hoped we would never have to send, but unfortunately, we have had to make the heartbreaking decision to cancel the 2020 ScotDance USA Champ...ionships this summer. We thought the past two months would be filled with the excitement of final plans coming together as we prepared to welcome you all to Denver; and instead we have spent every week watching closely the announcements at the local, state and federal level wondering when we would have a clearer picture on the possibility of holding the event. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting state of emergency in Colorado have created conditions such that it is impossible for us to hold this event and comply with governmental regulations. We are now under safer-at-home restrictions, and groups of more than 10 are still not permitted to gather. We expect that the guidance to wear masks and maintain physical distance from others will last at a minimum through the summer. With the athleticism of Scottish dancing and the requirement that dancers touch during some of our competitive dances, following this guidance would not be possible, and most importantly would risk the health and safety of all competitors and other attendees at the event. When the hotel advised us to submit a letter of cancellation to them earlier this week, the ScotDance USA Board of Directors and the board of the Rocky Mountain Highland Dancers voted to cancel all events of the weekend and we began the process of undoing the plans we had made. We have continued to receive messages expressing hope that we would not have to make this decision, and we also heard from those who have wondered when the decision to cancel would finally be made. Regardless of where you might have been on this spectrum, we know that this news today will be devastating for so many dancers who have been working hard to compete at our event this year. Some were looking forward to competing at their first USIR or possibly their last, others were excited to have the event held in their home state, and a number of you were excited to be travelling across the world and saved money all year to make this big trip possible. We share in your disappointment, and yet we know that by making this decision we are doing the right thing for the health and well-being of all. We expect this announcement likely brings up many questions for you, and we also have many questions that we still need to answer for ourselves. We do not yet have official confirmation from the hotel that we will be released from our contract, and as such we are still figuring out which of our costs can be recouped and which will remain as expenses. Therefore, we are asking that you give us the next week to start to figure out some of these things, as well as determine what sort of system will work best for refunding your tickets, registration, merchandise and other purchases. Because of this you will also see that we will continue our fundraising efforts in the coming weeks in hopes of limiting any losses we might incur. If we end up in a better financial position than expected we will look into ways to support our Scottish community with the funds raised. While we don’t have information yet on the best way for folks to cancel their hotel rooms, you are welcome to complete the Google form we had set up previously to indicate you would like to have your deposit returned and cancel your reservation as well. And finally, you may be wondering what will you do on Saturday, July 25? We are working on plans to bring you a virtual event that day that will still bring our Scottish dance community together despite being physically apart, so watch for more details to come on that in the coming weeks! We thank each of you for continuing to support us through this difficult time. And a special thanks to our judges and pipers who have been gracious and understanding as we grappled with this decision, and to the volunteers on the planning committee who collectively have put in 1000’s of hours of their time over the past three years to prepare for this event. Our Scottish dance family reaches across oceans and generations, and we know your love of dance and dedication to the sport will last much longer than this virus. Please be safe and take care of yourselves! With gratitude, The 2020 ScotDance USA Championships Planning Committee & the SDUSA Board of Directors

16.01.2022 We are disheartened to announce that, due to a decision made at the May Meeting of the RSOBHD and a subsequent discussion on Zoom with the Office Bearers of RSO...BHD and the President of FUSTA, we are no longer able to present at this time the 2020 Worldwide Dance Challenge. In addition to other matters, the RSOBHD pointed out that on FUSTA Registration Guidelines 2020 it states RSOBHD registered dancers are only allowed to compete at RSOBHD sanctioned events. During this difficult and uncertain time, it was our intention to provide dancers with challenging goals and a supportive online community. We hoped to inspire continued growth through dance, even as we move through a competitive season that has largely been cancelled. With over 500 registrations processed in under three weeks, we received overwhelmingly positive support for bringing this dream to life, and we are sorry to see this opportunity lost. We will be issuing refunds to all registered participants and will continue to be available to answer your questions over the next few weeks.

08.01.2022 Fantastic night at our 2020 windup on Saturday. A very different year for all with very few competitions and championships, replaced with zoom classes and lots of challenges that we all had fun doing. Thank you to all our teachers, pipers, dancers, parents and the organisers of all the challenges for all you did to keep everyone enthused and dancing so well in 2020. We are lucky in Perth going into summer with no community transmission and all our borders now open to the res...t of Australia . We are hoping all our highland dancing friends around the world are not too far behind us and we all manage to dodge any future waves. Wishing everyone a very lovely festive season together with a happy, healthy and successful 2021. 01.01.2022 IMPORTANT NEWS: ScotDance Canada Championship Series 2020 Advisory First and foremost, on behalf of the Office Bearers, Board of Directors and Independent Membe...rs of ScotDance Canada, I would like to thank our highland dancing community for the show of support during these volatile and difficult times we are all facing with respect to the COVID-19 Virus pandemic. As we continue to navigate personally and as a community through these unprecedented times, it is heartwarming to be involved with a dancing community that has risen above, showing strength, compassion and resolve. The day after registration opened for the SDCCS 2020, the Ministry of Public Affairs in British Columbia declared a provincial state of emergency in British Columbia. Alberta, Ontario and New Brunswick are also under state of emergencies. British Columbia showed 40 new cases of the virus confirmed as of March 19th and has the highest number of confirmed cases in Canada. While other provinces have much lower confirmed cases, it has been made abundantly clear by government health advisories, that we have not yet seen the worst. The SDC Emergency Crisis Task Force Committee developed a contingency plan template for our selection meets leading up to the Canadian Championships in the event these meets were not able to continue under the current crowd-sizing restrictions implemented by government health agencies. The template was to be presented March 20th to our selection meet organizers. It became crystal clear late last night, that through all our best intensions and efforts to preserve not only the Canadian Championship event, but the SDCCS event as a whole, that our sole responsibility to our dancers, professionals, organizers, dance parents and volunteers within the highland dancing community as well as the general public supersedes all else. The increasing impact to families has been astronomical where jobs have been affected in varying degrees. We cannot be in a position where a highland dancing event takes precedence over the physical, emotional or financial well-being of our dance community and general public at large. The needle is not moving in the desired direction with respect to the containment of this virus, with no foreseeable timelines as to improvement. With this being said, I am both saddened and disappointed to announce that the SDCCS 2020 event will be cancelled. This is a necessary move as an organization, in the paramount interest of health and safety protections for our highland dancing community as well as those outside of our community. We would like to extend our gratitude to the SDCCS 2020 organizing committee for all their hard work to date, where they have showed true commitment, enthusiasm and professionalism. This has been an extremely difficult time for the organizing committee. Please be aware, that you have the support, not only from your peers, but from the highland dancing community as a whole. For those who registered for the SDCCS 2020 event, refunds will be processed. Please be patient with the refund processwe will complete this as efficiently as possible. I would ask that we all do our part in the fight to contain and defeat this pandemic, respecting government health agency advisories, and that by doing so, we hopefully will not have to face a situation like this in years to come. Please take care of yourselves and loved ones. Now, more than ever, we need to come together showing support, empathy, kindness and compassion for one another. Continue to reach out consistently to one another as this will be our strength going forward. We have and will continue to rise above all adversity. Cheryl Rafter President, ScotDance Canada See more
