25.01.2022 Seatbelts save lives. Buckle up every time you get behind the wheel. Road safety is everyone's responsibility.

25.01.2022 Be careful out there folks, let's all come home safe!

24.01.2022 A winter tip from Firefighter Emma: Wheat bags can catch fire if they're overheated or old. Never overheat them in the microwave and replace your wheat bag if i...t's looking worn or old. Be fire safe this winter.

21.01.2022 Every second counts, preparedness may just save you a lot more than a sizeable damage bill. Be fire safe, protect what matters.

21.01.2022 This is why we never put water on hot oil or fat.

20.01.2022 A split second of inattention is all it takes - Don't take the risk, it isn't worth your life.

18.01.2022 We've seen an increase in call outs to people burning off on their properties and leaving the fire unattended. Make sure you give us a call to register your bu...rn. That way we can put the fire on our map and if someone calls to report the fire, we'll be able to give you a call before we respond. This way you can avoid an unnecessary visit from your local brigade and our vollies can carry on enjoying their long weekend. Fires on your property must never be left unattended, even at this time of year, and make sure it's out before you leave it. Stay safe everyone!

18.01.2022 Being able to give your precise location in an emergency can save vital time and lives. Make sure you’re prepared this summer by downloading the free emergencyplus app with @what3words built-in, so you can #HelpTripleZeroFindYou with just three words.

15.01.2022 Prior to last weekend's Bushfire course we also assisted with a Pumping course a week or so earlier; focusing on training new Firefighters on equipment, appliances and techniques.

14.01.2022 Gave some of the fleet a cleanup yesterday, looking a bit prettier for the upcoming Fire season! Dorset SES 9.2 got a bath as well, the bill's in the mail Dave ;)

13.01.2022 If you're travelling via the Sideling tonight, be careful as there are reports of trees fallen across the road.

13.01.2022 Firefighters wear heavy-duty protective clothing when fighting a fire. But what about ordinary people protecting their homes from fires? This is the minimum lev...el of protective clothing you should have. Make sure you tune in to watch part two of the new ABC Your Planet series ‘Big Weather (and how to survive it)’ tonight at 8.30pm on ABC TV + iview. This three-part series delivers an urgent and entertaining message of how our weather is changing and what we can do to survive it. #BigWeather #ReadyTogether

13.01.2022 Stay safe folks, drive to the conditions!

11.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service requests that landholders avoid lighting fires on their properties for at least the next 24 hours due to forecast severe weather condition...s. Fires in these windy conditions will be difficult to control. Fires that have been lit in the past fortnight should be patrolled as the wind increases, even if they are believed to be extinguished.

11.01.2022 It's R U OK? Day, a reminder that every day is a day to start a conversation that could change a life. Today we're calling on Australians to learn what to say a...fter R U OK? so they can keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK. There's more to say after R U OK? Learn what to say when listening with an open mind Learn what to say when encouraging action Learn what to say when checking in Learn how to continue a conversation that could change a life. When we know what to say next we can help someone open up and find pathways to support long before they're in crisis. Learn what to say next and help us move closer to our vision of a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide. Head to www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

11.01.2022 A recent house fire in New Norfolk started when a ceiling fan overheated, causing $10,000 damage to the bathroom and roofspace. Thankfully the fire was brought ...under control quickly, preventing further damage to the home. Heat lamp globes are hot and with a build up of lint and dirt can catch fire similar to a clothes dryer. Fires have been caused when fans are not cleaned or have ceiling insulation on top of them which overheats the motor and can cause a fire. Some tips for safe use of ceiling fans and bathroom heat lamps: Clean any ceiling fan and heating globes with a vacuum or cloth to remove dust and dirt build up. Don’t run ceiling fans and heating elements unnecessarily and never leave them on when you are not home. For more information about how to stay safe this winter visit www.fire.tas.gov.au

11.01.2022 Shopping list for the shack: batteries for your smoke alarms (or better still, install 10-year lithium battery smoke alarms) extra smoke alarms for every sl...eeping area Don't forget to test your smoke alarms and run the vacuum cleaner over them when you arrive. Guaranteed good times.

10.01.2022 Pop your lights on be careful if driving (drive to conditions ) , Billycock has slight bank slip it's not on road yet but mud may wash onto the road later on , rocks had stopped on the edge

10.01.2022 Vale Stephen Jones We mourn the passing of a committed and valuable member of our Fire Brigade family, we'd like to extend our deepest condolences to Steve's family and friends at this time. Steve faithfully served our community and the Fire Service for over two and a half years, his loss is one that cannot be described by words nor can his place in our hearts be taken. ... Rest in peace, we'll carry on the watch.

09.01.2022 Severe weather on the way folks, be prepared!

09.01.2022 Something to keep in mind folks, our options to assist you in the event of an emergency become quite limited if we can't access the scene.

08.01.2022 With the Fire Season right around the corner, have you taken steps to protect yourself, loved ones and property? For more information, visit the Tasmania Fire Service website: http://www.fire.tas.gov.au

07.01.2022 A house fire in Glenorchy last night was caused by a clothes dryer, destroying a garage, and $100,000 damage. Some tips for safe clothes dryer use: clean the ...lint filter after each use - lint is highly flammable and is the cause of many dryer-related fires. make sure your dryer is well ventilated. always run the dryer to the end of the cool down cycle - fires have been caused when the dryer has been stopped before the end of the cycle, causing the items to keep heating up and combusting while they are in a pile. 06.01.2022 The Brigade assisted in supervising a basic bushfire course for a handful of members from various neighbouring Brigades on Saturday; pretty productive day all-round and we're always keen to pitch in and help bring folks up to speed.

06.01.2022 We're on the hunt for cars again! Do you have an old clunker lying around that you need to get rid of? TFS firefighters use real cars for road crash rescue trai...ning exercises to ensure our scenarios are as close to real-life as possible. If you have an old unserviceable whole car that you are willing to donate to TFS please get in touch. We can arrange collection of your car and donations can be made by contacting your closest TFS regional office during business hours. South: (03) 6166 5500 North: (03) 6777 3666

06.01.2022 Lilydale Brigade were out again yesterday afternoon responding to an escaped burn at Turners Marsh. Lilydale 5.1 and 5 members attended. Rocherlea 4.1 and 5.1 a...lso attended. The fire was contained quickly and members stayed on site blacking out until the area was safe. (Photos: Dave Munro & Dave Cleaver) Things to remember before you burn ........ CAN I BURN OFF? Burning off on your own land can be an effective way to reduce the bush fire risk on your property. If you are planning on burning you should register your burn with the TFS. This will ensure you don’t receive an unwanted visit from your local brigade. FIRES MUST NEVER BE ALLOWED TO Escape from your land. Be lit and endanger land other than yours, including public land. TIPS FOR A SAFE AND HASSLE FREE BURN OFF Check to see if you need a permit. Only burn domestic garden refuse in incinerators or heaps. Incinerators should be constructed to prevent the escape of burning material and sparks. Comply with any Environmental Regulations or Council By-laws which may have additional restrictions for incinerators and heap fires. Consider alerting your neighbours. Have enough water close to the fire to be able to put it out or prevent it from spreading. Register your burn with the TFS on 1800 000 699. DO NOT: Burn man-made materials such as tyres, plastics and paints. Leave any fire unattended until completely out.

03.01.2022 Once the Brigade had extinguished the burning material, the SES and Tas Ambulance volunteers had the greenlight to begin the extraction process - Ambulance vollies assessed the vehicle's occupants while the SES crew stabilised the vehicle and used their hydraulic rescue tools to create an access point for the patients to be extracted.

03.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

02.01.2022 A winter fire safety tip from Firefighter Watene: Get your chimney or flue cleaned once a year by a professional. Having it cleaned will clear out the soot and other residue which can catch fire if it's left to build up over time.

02.01.2022 Oh no! A fire has erupted at the scene of the accident, Firefighters must quickly move to extinguish it before it gains too much intensity and puts both the Vehicle's occupants and rescuers at risk! - Part of yesterday's training, a complication thrown in to keep us on our toes as we participated in the rescue effort.

02.01.2022 The Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook has been released today. Tasmania is currently experiencing significant grassland growth while we are in an unusual ...rainfall pattern. These grasslands will dry out during January when we should expect fast moving grass fires to occur on days of fire danger. Even later into the season, heavy fuels and peat will be available to burn. We have seen a recent increase in escaped burns on private property which are burning into the night, which is an indication the fuels are drying out and the bushfire season is at our doorstep. The most important thing that Tasmanians can do now to prepare themselves for the upcoming season is to develop a 5-minute bushfire plan. We've launched a new online tool that can be accessed via www.fire.tas.gov.au and the Bushfire Why Risk It? campaign. The ‘5-minute bushfire plan’ in an easy to use online tool that allows people to run through a simple questionnaire to plan what they will do to keep themselves and everyone in their household safe in the event of a bushfire. 5 minutes is all it takes to give yourself the best chance of surviving a bushfire. The outlook is available here: https://www.bnhcrc.com.au/hazardnotes/85

02.01.2022 Feel-good story from our friends over at Ravenswood Fire Brigade

01.01.2022 Excellent bout of joint training today between ourselves, Dorset SES and the Tas Ambulance volunteers! The exercise consisted of a single vehicle with three entrapped persons (Drawn from Tas Ambulance, so that these members can get a feel for what it's like to be on the other side of a Rescue!) and a variety of complications and tasks for each organisation to accomplish working both seperately and as a larger cohesive team. The task was completed quickly and an excellent lun...ch was put on by Karen Waldron and Debbie Searle! Thank you to all of those volunteers who helped prepare the event and those who attended! There'll be a couple of short videos uploaded in the near future, so stay tuned for those!

01.01.2022 We'd like to thank @Padgett's Pinebark and Garden mulch supplies for their generous donation towards the much needed makeover of the station's gardens. Padgett's also made a donation twenty-three years ago that helped us to establish the original gardens and now thanks to them and our hard working volunteers & friends, they're on their way to returning to a state of splendor.
