19.01.2022 Last Friday's Eating With Friends function was held at the Mechanics. Once again we couldn't have put on such a great lunch without the help of businesses around town. So, thank you for you donation and assistance: * Moore's Farm Fresh who kindly donated carrots and potatoes * McLennan's Butchery for helping with the Beef * Nutrien for the big pot of gravy they donated... * Woolworths Scottsdale Voucher donation. We hope everyone had a great time at the Eating with Friends lunch and see you again soon.
18.01.2022 Momentous week, last weekend a lovely group of ladies spent the morning unpackaging our donated undies and then rerolling them ready for sending to Fiji via Sydney. Packaging is weight we don't need. This shipment is 1,156 pairs of undies and 55 bras. Getting our donations over to Fiji is of course more trickier than the last two deliveries but we still get them there. :-) ... This week we were featured in the North Eastern Advertiser paper and today had an interview with Belinda King from the ABC. Thank you North Eastern Advertiser and Belinda J King for helping us with this very worthwhile fundraiser.
13.01.2022 How fantastic to see Undies with Love from Tassie in Fiji and being distributed to young girls. Especially love the individually written notes about studying and achievement. Well done Bula Broads.
13.01.2022 Wonderful Lego exhibition at the hall this weekend. Very family friendly.
12.01.2022 Unwrapping the past. Today we had a working bee and decided after all this time to tackle the stage and the flats which had probably not been opened for 1/2 century. After unpeeling the horsehair plaster we uncovered a very early wallpaper although not sure about the possible date 20's to 60's. Anybody remember it?? Now the stage is so much more open and we can definitely encourage larger orchestra events or even plays.
11.01.2022 Seeking budding story tellers and writers - Expressions of interest are now open and close on Monday 31 August at 11:59 PM. Ten Days on the Island has partnered with Island Magazine to commission Tasmanian writers to write about the unique community halls dotted around the island that will be part of If These Halls Could Talk for Festival 2021. Ten Days on the Island and Island Magazine will co-design and implement a literary initiative to complement If These Halls Could Tal...k, seeking writers to respond creatively to the project with a text-based work of up to 3500 words. Renowned artists and creative teams will transform the halls into immersive site-specific festival experiences in the three regional heartlands of Tasmania West and North West, North and North East and South. The halls include: The Mechanics Institute, Scottsdale; Stanley Town Hall, Stanley; Gaiety Theatre, Zeehan; Portland Memorial Hall, St Helens; Rowella Hall, Rowella; Ross Town Hall, Ross; Liffey Hall, Liffey; Glen Huon Hall, Glen Huon; Sorell Memorial Hall, Sorell and New Norfolk. 09.01.2022 Undies with Love from Tassie (or Fiji Undies) donations are making such a big difference to those in Fiji in need. Thank you to all who have donated over the past year and we continually get donations in readiness of our next shipment early next year. We thought it would be nice to see a map of where your donations have gone. As you can see - far and wide.

06.01.2022 A big thank you to everyone for supporting yesterday's Cup Cake Fundraiser. We made and sold over 470 cup cakes. It was sensational fun and we raised money toward getting 'dumb waiter' installed in the hall. It will mean not having to climb the stairs 100 times each function. Big thank you to those who helped yesterday: Pam, Julie, Mae and Johnny, Donna, Sue, Trish and Brian, Debbie and Pip Hall. Here are a few photos of our progress throughout the day and happy customers. Post your happy snaps if you took any. :-)
03.01.2022 On August 1 the Mechanics' Hall looking all resplendent was the venue for a fabulous wedding between Joel Holmes and Hannah Gibb. We thank Joel and Hannah so very much for choosing our little hall for their big day. Thanks to Jess Curtis Photographer for these wonderful photos.
01.01.2022 Thank you Dorset Council Big News: The Hall Committee was successful in the latest Dorset Council Community Matching Funds Grant Program. What are we doing now, glad you asked.... Installing a fence/gate at the front and rear of the Hall and developing an outside garden room to complement the existing Hall facilities. Our hope is that we can recreate the original 'reading room' sign as a historical marker. We are also updating the hall stage area to make it Concert ready with updated lighting, repurposing the side stage panels and installation of a concert quality stage curtain. Stay tuned for updates and possibly a concert or two!! #DorsetCouncil
