And so we arrived in Tenterfield today, in northern NSW, to visit @thewhitecottage_flowerfarm_ While our calendars didnt align in order to physically meet, Mandys dear friend Marg popped around and opened the shop, just for us...... Needless to say, a few purchases were made, and plenty of photographs taken. I love it when you walk into a space and immediately gain a sense of a person. 10.01.2022 Its been a long time coming but here we are at Arethusa, the beautiful home of Kas @wrenandwhippet. A broken home has been brought back to life here in Leura. The photos you have seen already on Insta via Kas, or those I am sharing today, in no way do this home any justice. What I think I love the most is the restraint. Everywhere, old has been mixed with new, but it is a light and masterful touch that has knit this home together and brought her back to life. For tho...se who have watched the journey with Kas, we know it has been one of ecstasy and agony. To have come so far and now to sell this amazing home, must have been heartbreaking. But only positivity met us as the door today....and hopes and dreams of new beginnings. We were met with a wide smile, a hug (sorry COVID), a tour and our own beautiful spread of food and cider to enjoy. We are cozy and content and do not want to move. We started this little biz just over a year ago through a shared passion for not only vintage wares as things, but to honour the values of our parents and grandparents who made do and loved what they had (or had been given) to live a life of simplicity. Here @scoutandbird our aim is to give back - in a small way - to the humble but meaningful movement of relishing and repurposing the past and breathing new life into things which might ...otherwise have been discarded. Today, many of us find pleasure in mixing the old with the new. So, when we saw our beautiful vintage brass candlesticks in a feature about @abbiemelle and her time in isolation in the July issue of @countrystylemag ... we kind of did a backflip! 06.01.2022 Two years ago today we were wrapping up our incredible Tassie holiday with a two-night stay @captainsrest My husband had no idea why I was insisting we treck across to the Wild West to stay in a little fishermans shack in the tiny, isolated historical village of Lettes Bay. He soon found out why. And understood. It was here that I connected with Sarah ... and later actually met her face to face, along with other wonderful creative souls, @thehostingmasterclass in Milton... NSW. It was a major turning point in my life in so many ways. Just over a year later, due to a debilitating and worsening auto/immune disease, I went home sick one day from my corporate job of 32 years, and never went back. @scoutandbird was in its infancy then, with 50 followers on Instagram. As we have grown, so many of you have become dear life-long friends and confidantes. Despite my best efforts, I still suffer from this disease, and while at times it can be very challenging, I wouldnt change a thing. So heres to @captainsrest and Sarah Andrews, who has encouraged me to pursue my dreams (midst lots of champagne chats and many expletives) and just go for it, but at my own pace. Things do happen for a reason, I really believe that. While I hope that a major health event does not cause your life to stop and spin you around, I do hope that you can follow your dreams. Big and small.
