24.01.2022 1st Whittlesea Scouts had another night outdoors this week to coincide with the Lunar Eclipse. The night in Kinglake National Park included linking two Cubs, a night hike with tips and tricks for night navigation and a game. The rain stopped, the skies cleared and the timing was perfect for everyone to observe the lunar eclipse as we walked. A great night and we are fortunate to have good outdoor venues like this in close proximity. Thanks to the Leaders and all the parents that came and shared the evening with us.

22.01.2022 Whittlesea Scouts had two patrols (one learner patrol and one competitor patrol) attend ScoutHike 2021. Great to see our Scouts getting outdoors and being successful putting into practise skills and working as patrols. A great social event with 1000 Scouts in attendance and lots of great memories. Hiking in a brief snow flurry, early on Saturday morning was a highlight with the Scouts.... Thanks to the Scouts, the parents for helping with transport and the 500 odd leaders and adults who make this event such a great one.

20.01.2022 1st Whittlesea Scout Group enjoyed a beautiful day for our end of year group hike/BBQ at Jehoshaphat Gully, Kinglake NP. Joeys hiked 2km, Cubs 5km & Scouts 10km to all finish up at Jehoshaphat Gully for a group bbq. We then celebrated 2 cubs linking to scouts, 2 scouts linking up to venturers & a Grey Wolf presentation. This concluded our scouting year but we have big plans for next year!

20.01.2022 1st Whittlesea Scouts participated in the Nillumbik Whittlesea Ramble at Clifford Park. Day 1 involved setting up camp then bushwalking and taking in the wildlife and great scenery of the Upper Yarra, this was followed by afternoon activities including hiking gear demonstration, axe throwing and digital navigation using GPS. Dinner was a chance to practise lightweight cooking skills and an outdoor movie to follow. Day 2 involved another bushwalk to a different area, breaking camp and reflections on the weekend. A great opportunity for the Scouts to enjoy the weekend hiking and camping and practise their skills in preparation for upcoming events. Thanks to the Leaders and our parent helper for providing great opportunities for our youth. Great to see them out and about and Scouting in the outdoors again.

18.01.2022 Our Cubs had an awesome week at Cuboree! So many activities & soo much fun. Thanks to our amazing leaders Bagheera, Jikala & Arunga & camp cook Christelle. You guys rock!

18.01.2022 Whittlesea Joeys, Scouts, leaders and parents were involved in a Clean Up Australia event in their local community. The area targeted this year was the Black Flat Reserve (Bruces Creek catchment) in the northern part of Whittlesea. Several bags of rubbish were collected and removed from the environment and prevented from entering the nearby waterways. Thanks to everyone who came along and gave their time for such a worthy cause and a special thanks to Falcon our Scout Leader for organising.

17.01.2022 Whittlesea Scouts were back outdoors with a 25km bike ride along Diamond Creek and Main Yarra Trail. Fantastic weather for Covid safe adventuring.

12.01.2022 Earlier in the month Whittlesea Scout Group participated in the Suburban Adventure Race at Doncaster. Suburban Adventure Races are mini rogaines (navigation) ev...ents that improve navigation skills and build problem solving and self confidence. You don't need to be in a group to test your navigation skills, why not set a challenge for yourself! See more

11.01.2022 Whittlesea Scouts are back to face to face Scouting in the Outdoors. First week was a Park Challenge, a Fantastic Race style challenge in the local parks. This was followed by a construction evening in the backyard of the hall, where Scouts built and raced chariots. Great to see our youth back enjoying activities and having fun with their friends.

09.01.2022 1st Whittlesea Scouts had a fun night of "barefoot bowls" at the Whittlesea Bowls Club. Thanks to the Whittlesea Bowls Club for hosting our Scouts. Thanks to the Leaders and Parent Helper for assisting.

07.01.2022 1st Whittlesea Cubs enjoyed a trip to The Shrine of Remembrance today to learn about our military heroes. We travelled in on the train & walked through Fed Square where a Buddha festival was occurring. Then walked up to The Shrine with lunch in the park. An informative tour of The Shrine was hosted by Jon, a Scout leader & Shrine volunteer. Then games in the park & train ride home. Thanks to Jikala for organising & Bagheera & our parent helpers for assisting.

06.01.2022 An intrepid small group of Whittlesea Scouts, Leaders and one Parent tackled the Westerfolds Park Suburban Adventure Race recently. These events are now possible in a Covid safe way using a GPS enabled phone app. It was a fantastic evening, taking in the twilight beauty of the Yarra and surrounding parklands with a solid 90 minutes of exercise and brushing up on those navigational skills. Great to see our more experienced Scouts navigating unassisted and confidently collecting controls to achieve a good score. Thanks to the Suburban Adventure Racing team for continuing to innovate and provide resources. Thanks to the Leaders and accompanying parent for helping on the night.

06.01.2022 Mother’s Day program tonight got quite a few scout mums involved in making origami book marks. Post your creations.

06.01.2022 A patrol of Whittlesea Scouts attended the Whittlesea District Cohen Shield at Camp Warringal and earned a Silver award for their efforts. Cohen Shield is an activity to assess Scouting skills and their ability to meet challenges working as a cohesive team. Great reward for their enthusiasm and efforts for the day. A huge thanks to all the leaders that brought the event to fruition at short notice to provide opportunities for our youth.
