05.05.2022 RACE Nutrition Report 2nd at Besançon Triathlon World Triathlon #Paratriathlon World Cup. A step in the right direction towards qualifying for #tok...yo2020 #paralympics. Having always wanted to visit a small French town, Besancon certainly delivered! FRENCH FACT 1 (FF1): THEY EAT BREAD AND CARBS IN MODERATION, AND IN AN ENJOYABLE WAY. Highlights pre race included sampling local produce cheese, crepes, charcuterie, rotisserie chicken, farmers markets , wine, boulangerie patisserie, fruit, veg, seafood and of course bread to name a few! Oh and in between all this culinary exploration, training preparation and taper was flawless under the guidance of Elotik Pro Triathlon . Sure I enjoyed the odd bit of French indulgences in the lead up to the race, HOWEVER 90% of my usual diet back home was evident aka it wasn’t one big food coma blurr when overseas like many travellers. FF2: THEY DON’T BELIEVE IN FADS OR DIETS! Race Morning. Race start was 1230pm, a bit different to the usual early start in Australia. Therefore, a descent breakfast was consumed at 7am to allow for ample time to digest! Brekky was BORING ie just a French baguette with butter, jam and a bit of Nutella (when in France), topped off with a bit of yoghurt to settle the gut and top up protein stores. This was also repeated 2 hours before, along with a good old Kellogg's Australia LCM Bar 1 hour before! (Routine is key) Dont forget the Community Coffee Co I brought all the way from Subiaco either! Sipped across the morning to enhance performance & well get the bowels moving :) FF3 THE FRENCH DON’T EAT WHILST THEY WATCH TV OR STAND UP. THEY RESPECT THEIR MEAL. The Fiski Swim SWIM: 2nd out of the water sticking to own pace, following the shortest line. A continual work in progress and massive improvements in the past 3 months (Thanks to @coachdazsmith Daniel Rodgers , Inside WAIS , Triathlon Australia ) PART 2= Next Post!
