24.01.2022 Hollows are so important for our native wildlife whether they are in a standing tree or on the ground. Keep hollows for the animals and if there are no hollows around, create a nest box. A great SIA project for all ages. Plan> Survey what animals are in your local area and find out what their nest box requirements are. Find out what timbers are suitable to use as well as how best to secure your box in place without damaging the host tree. Do> Build and install the nest box. Get support from friends and family to help learn some new construction skills. Review> Revisit the steps you took but you can also review the success of the box by monitoring it's use.

21.01.2022 Enjoy sitting back and starring into the night sky? This online event next weekend might be for you.

20.01.2022 Happy Penguin Awareness Day

19.01.2022 Just over a week to go. Are you ready to get counting?

18.01.2022 Happy World Wildlife Day. What wildlife have you seen today?

14.01.2022 Don't worry Joeys. We couldn't run the program this year but we are revising our plans for our next Joey Fun Day, and our program ideas for this one are now bigger and better than ever!

13.01.2022 Of all our native wildlife, birds are amongst the most accessible and are a great introduction to animal surveying. Many of our parrots are noisy, colourful and messy, making them easy to find. Looking for evidence of birds, listening for calls and observing the different adaption birds have depending on where they live and what they eat applies the same approaches that ecologists use when attempting to locate even our most shy native animals. 11.01.2022 One more sleep. Mt Keira scout camp are you guys aiming to break the app this year with your high count numbers?

11.01.2022 Last weekend the team called into Tandarra Hilltop Farm at Yowrie and checked out their free range chicken setup, and came away with some great tasting eggs. They welcome farm visits, check out their website. Anyway, I just heard about this app on the radio. CluckAR is an app developed by Choice to make it simple to compare the free-range status of egg products. Egg labels can be confusing. Has anyone here used it? Any surprises?

08.01.2022 Have you noticed any scar trees near you?

08.01.2022 Not so sure that Wallaby is part of the plan to Rewilding Britain.

05.01.2022 It's again time to vote on which animal we put on our Environment Camp Badges for 2021. The vote will be via emojis (but we welcome friendly banter from both supporter groups in the comments section). This year the choice is between two marine mammals that are both listed as Vulnerable on the NSW Threatened Species List. Both animals are found off the coast of our region and are under threat due to collisions with boats, entanglement in nets, and the impact of pollution particularly the ingestion of marine plastics. Share this post around and get voting. Votes will be counted 8pm on Friday 5th March.
