12.01.2022 ... It is with great sadness that we need to inform everyone that unfortunately the great Southern Districts Oilers have fallen short of our target number of players. After exhausting all options and impressive efforts of our core group to recruit a team, we have had to make a player safety call and not field a team for this coming season. With the added outside pressure that is 2020 (Covid delaying several sports that we are in competition to rec...ruit from) we have had a hard time recruiting. Gratefully, we have seen many new faces getting involved in the Oilers and our family is growing. However it was just not quite enough and we can not in good faith to our players and those of the league field a team in hopes of ours making it through this season. And as such we have informed the Gridiron SA committee that will will not be fielding a Senior Men’s team for the 2020 season. Some players have chosen to spend the year transferring to other clubs. The club will continue to support all Oilers and wish them every success for 2020. We believe the club still has a bright future and the committee will be working diligently through this season to bring the Oilers back on the field next season. I wish to thank all players past and present, and all those off the field for their efforts this preseason. This is just a small step back in the great history of our club. I’d like to take this opportunity to ask all Oiler members, past and present, we need your help no matter how small you can offer. This club has huge amounts of history that we are all apart of. It would be heartbreaking to see it fade away. I plead to EVERYONE, please if you have time, a moment, an idea, anything... Come down to a training, meeting or event and say ‘Hi’. This is the time our family needs to stand strong. We will be back. Rig Up, - ,
