21.01.2022 AED Sign DEFIBRILLATORS. WHATS THE HYPE? A lot of talk has been made about defibrillators. ... Do they work? What do they do? Can I use one? Are they easy to use? The good news is that anyone is capable of using a defibrillator. More importantly, statistics show that in the event of a Cardiac Arrest or any other Cardiac event, their impact is 10 fold to just doing CPR. So the next obvious question is how do I find these units? The symbol to look for on the wall is a green sign that has a heart shape with a lightening bolt going through the middle as shown above. With the population ageing and the lifestyle diseases such as Cardiac, Stroke and Diabetes on the increase, it would be suggested that a defibrillator be readily available. The question is where can I get one? SDO First Aid Services provides defibrillators at varying pricing depending on requirements and circumstances. Alternatively, encourage 30 people to do the HLTAID003 or HLTAID004 course with you and receive a defibrillator for free!!! Just mention the 30 for Free deal when booking your course with us.

20.01.2022 Is your First Aid Certificate up to date? We are in May and June 30 is not far away. is your business compliant with the Worksafe guidelines by having trained first aiders on site? if the answer is no then perhaps it would be opportune for you to organise a First Aid course.... For bookings call us on 03 9017 5590

18.01.2022 THE IMPORTANCE OF DRSABCD Many times we see an incident happen in front of our eyes, and as usual we do what most people do, Yes we panic. The question is then asked, how do we curb the desire to panic? It is after all a natural reaction.... The Australian Resuscitation Council as provided us with the acronym, DRSABCD for providing First Aid. The letters have a meaning. What is the meaning? I hear you ask? Lets break the acronym down D Stands for DANGER, assess the danger R RESPONSE, attempt to obtain a response from the casualty S SEND for help anyone will do but primarily we need the paramedics. A Check the AIRWAYS are clear and if blocked ..clear it. B Are they BREATHING? C Time to do COMPRESSIONS on the chest. D Use the DEFIBRILLATOR. Now if we think of a pilot who flys the same aircraft 5 times a day (depending on the number of sectors he is flying) and 5 days a week (depending on how many hours he has up), his natural process is to run through the same checklist, day in day out, before he even turns the engine on. the question is why? It is so he follows procedure and the flight does not end up in a negative way. Similarly, by imbedding the DRSABCD in your brain, you are more likely not to panic when the need arises to provide First Aid. Just do yourself a favour and take a First Aid course so that you will feel more comfortable and confident to provide assistance should the need arise. After all, 60% of all incidents occur at home, where there are no professional First Aiders, or Paramedics, Or medical staff. Call on 03 9017 5590 to make a booking.

16.01.2022 Hi folks, Just wanted to ask 3 quick questions and they are , what is First Aid? Why do we provide it? What do we want to achieve with it?

16.01.2022 With Easter approaching and all the hot cross buns and chocolates available... who can resist? Please be aware of the diabetics in your life and keep an eye on their sugar intake over the Easter holiday. Would you know if they are hypo or hyper glycaemic?? Doing a First Aid course enables you to know what to do in emergency situations and you are better equipped to help your loved ones if the need arises. See our training website for dates and venues for all courses. www.1sdotraining.com.au

16.01.2022 I would like to take the opportunity to wish you a very merry, safe, healthy, happy Christmas and may the best of 2015 be the worst of 2016. May you have a prosperous new year filled with joy and happiness all the time..

16.01.2022 The Bush is an exciting and dangerous place. We have just finished the 2015 Easter weekend and a majority of the news involved a missing young man named Luke Shambrook. The exciting thing was that he was found safe and well, but this leads me to my next thought. Before we go anywhere, are we well prepared? Do we have what we need to stay alive and are we adequately trained to take care of all situations?... Coincidently on late night T.V. there was an episode of I shouldnt be alive and the story dealt with a young man who was out hunting with his dad in the mountains when he got mauled by a Grizzly Bear. The young man survived partly because he knew what to do and partly because of shear luck. Similarly Luke was a lucky young man because he was spotted from the air by a vigilant pilot who just happened to see a flash of light and that is what alerted him to the boy. Before you set off anywhere, it would be wise to let people know where you are going and when you expect to be home. Also in my opinion, a working 2 way radio never hurt as well as an adequate First Aid Kit, to suite the environment being visited, and basic bum bag of First Aid components and plenty of fresh drinking water should be taken with you. Most of all, be visible so that in the event of you becoming lost, or worse, injured, you can be found. In both scenarios, the young men owed their lives to the people who found them and assisted them. The fact that pure strangers would go out of their way to do the unexpected is testament to the spirit of human nature. Do not be afraid to stop for a person in need, Lord knows you may need them one day. In fact the duty of care of a First Aider is to stop and render assistance and do only what they have been trained to do until help arrives. The Australian Resuscitation Council says that Any Attempt Is Better Then No Attempt At All. That means that if you take care of a casualty and not everything goes according to plan, feel safe that you did what you thought was the right thing to do at the time. Also a First Aid course would not go astray. Do the course before you need it. Not after when the horse has already bolted. Course are easily available and if you dont feel comfortable doing the course on your own, grab some friends and do the course as a group with like minded interests.

15.01.2022 When was the last time you attended a first aid course? Better still, when was the last time you provided first aid to anyone? Was it at home, where 70% of all incidents occur?... And did you do what most people do in a situation like this and PANIC? Did you have a fully stocked and up to date first aid kit handy or did you race down to the pharmacy for some "Bandaids". If all the above sounded like you, then you need to do a course in how to provide first aid and do it confidently. We can help. Just call on 30 9017 5590 to book.

15.01.2022 If you have a young driver in your life why not give them a Vehicle First Aid Kit for Christmas? We have a range of kits from small soft packs to large Home and Away Kits that make a useful and probably underestimated item to have in your car or home! We can also a customise small bags for your needs. Give us a call to arrange a time to pop in to have a look. Remember to stay hydrated and cool, check on elderly family members and look after your pets in this heat! Please d...o not leave your pets in the car. If you need to shop, keep your pets at home!! For those celebrating holidays with candles and frying, be aware of kitchen dangers with hot oil and naked flames. Stay safe!

13.01.2022 It's now February and the days are still warm. Be sure to keep your fluids up and stay hydrated. Also keep exposure to the sun to a minimum.... If you came across someone who was suffering from heatstroke, would you know what to do? Book a first aid course and learn what to do.

11.01.2022 Well new year has come and gone and life moves on. This is also the time that resolutions are made. Its also the time when people see others after they have done some silly things. Would you be able to help if something happened to a loved one over this period?... This is now the time when a first aid course might be useful.

11.01.2022 Well another Labour day weekend has come and gone and we are due to have the Australian Grand Prix this coming weekend, which makes me think about how we handle ourselves when we get together with friends. my suggestion is to make sure that when you are drinking, that you drink moderately and separate each glass of the suds or the grape juice by downing an equal amount of water. We need to stay hydrated when we drink and in a round about way, this lets us enjoy the Ales and the Wines a little bit longer. Stay healthy and safe

10.01.2022 How many times have you provided CPR? And if you need to, how do we actually perform CPR? These questions are constantly asked by the general masses because, fortunately they have never had to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) . And if we do perform CPR, do we give the rescue breaths or do straight compressions? With which part of the body do we perform CPR?... Hmmmm ... Interesting concepts. Firstly lets look at the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) best practice guidelines. The ARC suggests that best practice is, for an adult (our most common type of casualty), to use 2 hands and to provide 30 compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths 5 times in 2 minutes. The guidelines then go on to say that if and only if you are not willing to provide the rescue breaths, then can you perform 100 to 120 compressions per minute. The Victorian Metropolitan Ambulance Service would rather we just went ahead and did straight compressions. At the end of the day, you make the decision in the heat of the moment. The medical fraternity would rather we provided the rescue breaths, and the paramedics would rather we just did something. There is currently discussion regarding the use of feet to provide compressions. The argument used is that it will allow many more people who do not have the physical strength, are to small, to light, etc., to provide CPR. This is an interesting thought and again you would have to come to your own conclusions. My opinion would be that right now, stick with Best Practice until the ARC says otherwise. Should you wish to update your CPR certificate and training, book into one of our courses.

08.01.2022 Hi All, Just a reminder that as of the 1st of January, the Federal government decided to create a new number that all students must now use. The number is called the Unique Student Identifier (USI) number and is required for all forms of training, from plain little old first aid to a PHD in Micro Biology. Details for this number can be found on the www.usi.gov.au website where you can find your number or, if you dont have a number, create one. This number must be presented... to all training sessions so that you will be able to receive your certificate. Some RTOs are now including access to the USI website as part of their enrolment procedures so that they can make life easy all round. So when you book a course with us, be prepared to be asked for your USI number.

08.01.2022 About a month ago I was working at a function as the First Aider when I was summoned to attend to a gentleman who had collapsed at around 3:30 in the afternoon. On approaching, the wife of the casualty asked me if I was a first aider to which I replied that I was and she immediately told me of her husband's situation. She said that her husband was a diabetic and had eaten the night before after which he took his insulin and had not had anything to eat or drink since. No wond...er he had collapsed. While she was talking to me, an off duty nurse was also assisting. We tested his blood sugar levels and the reading was 1.2 ..... What would you have done? OK so we called the paramedics, but that would not help in the short term. with sugar levels so low, it would only be a matter of time before the casualty deteriorates into a coma and if not assisted, could die. A sugar low casualty has a maximum of about 2.5 hours before they become critical and pass away. Fortunately for this gentleman, he had on hand 3 first aiders, a nurse and a medical doctor all attending to him when eventually the paramedics arrived. He was treated and taken off to Hospital where he recovered fully and the result was a happy one. If you are a diabetic, we strongly stress that you follow your medical practicioner's advice and stick to your prescribed diet, i.e. eating your regular meals, taking your medication and drinking plenty of fluids, particularly more water and less alcohol. Alcohol is a diuretic. It dehydrates your system. You need liquid in your body to help the blood flow properly through your veins and arteries. If the blood does not flow through properly, you are depriving your cells of much needed oxygen and sugars ... better known as nutrients. Be selfish and stay healthy. If not for you then your family.

08.01.2022 SDO First Aid Services wishes all clients a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful and safe festive season with family and friends. See you all in 2018!

08.01.2022 If you have a first aid kit, whether at work or home, it is vital to check the components for use by dates, look for the hourglass symbol. Any item beyond this date needs to be disposed of and replaced. Creams, lotions and liquids have a finite 'lifetime' and can become unsterile. Bandages lose their elasticity or integrity and may be rendered useless. You do not want to be faced with an emergency only to open your kit and find items past their use by date. SDO First Aid Services offers Kit Servicing, where we come to your work place and 'freshen up' your kits. We also sell defibrillators and provide a complimentary training session on delivery of the defib. Businesses are welcome to ring to make an appointment to discuss their First Aid needs or book a kit service.

07.01.2022 Happy New Financial Year!!! Is your first aid kit up to date? Does your defibrillator need to be checked? Are the AED pads still in date and is the battery operating efficiently enough to save a life? Hey, are you in a high risk area where you have people who are over the age of 40 and could be at risk of a cardiac arrest where a Defibrillator could actually be essential in assisting in saving someone's life?... Do you actually possess a defibrillator? If the answer to any of the above questions is "No" or "I have no idea" or "Don't know" or any other variation, then perhaps we need to talk. Call us on 03 9017 5590 to organise an appointment or ask away on the phone. Remember, a casualty's life is important, especially to the family of the casualty. So make a difference and save a life by using up to date and compliant equipment.

07.01.2022 The September issue of Royal Auto magazine page 40 has an article about first aid kits for vehicles. Whether you commute to work daily, drive a van, truck, ute etc as a tradie, or tow a boat or caravan, it is very worthwhile to have a kit handy. Think about your particular needs and the type of kit you should have in your vehicle. We have a variety of first aid kits for sale for home, vehicles and workplace. You are welcome to give us a call for advice on your needs and what would suit you. To be even better equipped, a first aid course to boost confidence is recommended. Our training company 1SDO Training Pty Ltd RTO#41558 has a list of courses that can potentially save a life.

06.01.2022 Well folks, it is the middle of April and tax time is looming. Yes, time does fly! After all, Christmas was just yesterday, right? The challenges we have are that life races by and we don't take into account that our qualifications have a limited life and that we need to constantly renew our certifications and our knowledge. ... Question, what do most people do when someone collapses in front of them? ....... You guessed it, they PANIC. And they PANIC because they do not deal with First Aid every day. It is not their core business. Everything else is, and so when an incident does occur, the most important know-how required (First Aid) is not at hand immediately. That is why organisations such as ours constantly need to encourage people to be equipped with the knowledge so that they can save a life if need be. By the way, 70% of all heart attacks happen where? At home after work hours or early in the morning where a "First Aider" is not available. Please do not hesitate to make yourself compliant not only from a worksafe point of view, but also from a personal perspective and book into a First Aid course by calling us on 03 9017 5590 to update your skills.

06.01.2022 Oh My gosh, I blinked and July is looming. Is that the sort of response and feeling you have? Have you taken the time and energy to ensure that all your staff and First Aid equipment are up to date and compliant? If not, now is the perfect timing to organise training for you and your staff. It is also a perfect opportunity to organise one of our staff to come and check your first aid kit to make sure it is healthy.... Call us on 03 9017 5590

06.01.2022 Below is the new SDO First Aid Services app to be loaded on your Mobile phone or tablet. Please use it as a guide and we will see you at the next training session ... https://www.pinterest.com/pin/411657222165291528/ See more
