22.01.2022 Wearing it wrongly It’s the same attitude. I am wearing the safety device because I have to not because I want to. Wearing a mask under your nose meets your legal requirements (you can’t be fined as you as wearing one) but it is ineffectual. ... Wearing a seatbelt under your arm meets your legal requirements (if stopped by Police you are wearing one) but it is ineffectual. But if you wear glasses then wearing a mask correctly while driving results in a greater need for a seatbelt worn correctly as your glasses fog making it hard to see.

18.01.2022 Pressure to speed Today’s corporate participants were palliative care nurses from St. Vincent’s Hospital. They drove Ford Focus models to visit patients. The tyre pressure sticker was European with its >160km/h tyre pressure line.... Also 45psi is a surprisingly high recommended pressure for a rear tyre on a medium sized sedan when VS Commodores used to recommend 28 psi back in the day.

17.01.2022 Setup for a reason It always amazes me to arrive to a rented driver training area and find how instructors from the previous hirer have setup their activities. To me the haphazard use of traffic cones suggests little or no thought has gone into it. But then again some training providers don’t even own their own traffic cones and some even use gardening pots to reduce expenses. ... I like to setup cornering activities with very small cones to limit scratches on the corner of the front bumper when understeer happens (but then I am motivated to protect my cars, the other schools that use large cones I assume aren’t concerned for the clients cars) I like to setup activities with different coloured cones like the multiple lines on an indoor court for different sports. This helps to differentiate activities. I like to setup slaloms with large markers at the ends for drivers to lift their vision towards. At SDT we use foam objects for our lane change steering exercises and use small cones in the spot where impact is likely. I guess the other schools just throw a few traffic cones out and make it work.

15.01.2022 More qualifications Our new Safe Driving ambassador Declan was flown to Brisbane recently and put through some professional development training and now has some more qualifications. So embarrassing to hear of a recent driver training startup busted for not having the necessary qualifications. He must have thought his motorsport racing licence exempted him from holding qualifications.

10.01.2022 Blind spot creator A participant had a new Hyundai Kona at a course and had watched our videos about mirror positioning.
