17.01.2022 Dear Men .... In order to successfully change our behaviour we need to understand three important factors. 1. Readiness to change: if you are ready to change and prepared to put the work in you will need knowledge and tools to teach you how to cope and deal with the same situations differently. 2. Barriers to change: are there any barriers preventing you from making changes or are you making excuses or scared to be accountable for your behaviour. It can be both uncomfortable... and challenging to look at our own behaviour, which is why it’s important to seek help and support. 3. Expect relapses: more than likely it’s often the case of two steps forward one step back. Trying to change our behaviour can be as difficult as attempting to give up smoking or alcohol. That is why it’s important to identify what triggers are in play and how to confront them without falling back into old habits. Often people use stress, alcohol or even a close loved one to justify their poor behaviour choices. You may feel certain that other people or situations bring out the worst in you. However this mindset has to change and by taking responsibility and recognising that you are the one that chooses how you respond is the first step forward in making a positive change.
