25.01.2022 Attention to BARF customers We are running low on our stock of BARF dog food, and are having difficulty getting more stock in. There will be a two box maximum per client until we get new stock in two weeks. We are trying very hard to get it in, so please be patient with us!!... If there is a particular flavour your doggie likes & you are needing a few boxes, please email us on [email protected] and we will make sure we order plenty of that flavour when it comes in. Thank you for your patience

24.01.2022 We hope everybody enjoyed their long weekends & spending time with their loved ones Nurse Laurens dog, Harlow went exploring in Clare along the Riesling Trail & had a great time! We want to see what your furry friends got up to? Comment below

23.01.2022 We all know bees are essential for the pollination of food and flower crops, but some dogs believe they are also essential spring-time playthings!! Little Luna here decided last week that she just had to sample a spicy sky raisin! Cue bee sting in the tongue and an unhappy little girl!! The sting was removed under sedation and Luna received some medication to bring the swelling down and make her comfortable. And back to playing she went!

23.01.2022 How beautiful & photogenic is Lizzie? Distracting her with liver treats made it very easy to get her attention

23.01.2022 The Vet will see you now Our new Nurse Trixie , has got the customer service down pat

23.01.2022 Grass Seed season is hitting hard at Seaside Vets. We have had several cases of grass seeds hidden in ears, tonsils, noses, feet & even eyes! Please ensure your yards are clear and tidy and that when taking your dog for a walk, you check their ears & feet. This nasty grass seed was hidden up a poor little dogs nose and was causing the dog to sneeze very often! A sedation was given to explore the nose & the grass seed was removed. We are happy to say the dog is feeling much better now

22.01.2022 Assistant clinic dog Dave is working very hard on his emergency calls this morning!

21.01.2022 Snake season has already started! Classic snake bite in a cat. Snake venom causes nerve paralysis. To start the back end is affected more - pets walk like they’re drunk , and it progresses forward and eventually the whole body will be paralysed. ... Pets are floppy and show no signs of pain. Snakes are about and we’ve had a couple of cases in the last couple of weeks so beware. Treatment is antivenene and most treated pets survive. But it’s expensive costing $7-900 on average. Cats are more resistant than dogs and may survive untreated, anyway It’s a good idea to clean out rubbish in your backyard that could hide snakes.

21.01.2022 Rat Bait Toxicity!! Zoe had a sleepover at assistant clinic dog Daves house on the weekend. A moment of boredom while Dr Nat and Dr Amanda were at the clinic led to a rather large hole being dug under the house, and an ancient box of Ratsak was unearthed! Ratsak and other anticoagulant rat and mouse baits prevent blood clotting by interfering with the livers production of new clotting factors. This leads to severe internal bleeding, and is fatal if untreated. We can someti...mes solve the problem by inducing vomiting, if the rat bait ingestion is discovered quickly. Otherwise, we need to put dogs onto an antidote for up to six weeks! Zoe and Dave had their blood clotting times checked on Monday at Seaside, and were found to be normal, so no antidote course needed! Very lucky dogs!! And a very good reminder to check you havent got any rat baits out where a dog or cat could access them! See more

20.01.2022 Please post some pet videos and photos in the comments so we can all feel some warm fuzzies this weekend! Thanks so much to all of our clients for getting on board with our efforts to flatten the curve, and to try and prevent spread of the virus in our area - everyone is doing their bit, well done Copper Coast! Below we have the lovely Cashew, our nurse Stefs rather spirited kitten.

20.01.2022 Seaside Vet Surgery is visiting Coober Pedy in June!! We will be there Tuesday 23rd June to Thursday 25th June, at the council pound building. Please call 0474 654 721 to secure your booking! Alternatively, you can email us at [email protected] to organise. Were looking forward to getting back up there!!

20.01.2022 Seaside Vet is going back to curbside consulting protocols during SA's lockdown. As we are deemed an essential service, we are still open, however from tomorrow morning, no clients will be able to enter the building. We may also need to postpone some appointments until after lockdown - we will call you directly if this is the case. Please call us when you arrive for your appointment, and we will come out to you. Same goes for picking up medication or food orders. Please be pa...tient with this process - it does slow things down a lot, having no-contact protocols in place, but it is necessary at the moment. Please do not panic about chronic medications - but do let us know if you are running out. You will be allowed to leave the house to pick up medication and food from us during the lockdown, so don't panic today! Our curbside protocol means our two phone lines work extremely hard with all of the extra phone calls, so if you have any non-urgent appointment enquiries, food or medication requests - please email us at [email protected], and we will get back to you shortly. Thanks everyone! Please stay safe. See more

20.01.2022 Tongues out Tuesday with Zoe & Harlow! We hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend!

19.01.2022 Happy Friday! How gorgeous is Goldie & her adorable Minion collar We love that she is always so happy to see us!

18.01.2022 Dr John Carles is here at Seaside Vet Surgery today and tomorrow ONLY. So if you and your pet have been missing Dr John, give us a call to book in on 88 233 233!

18.01.2022 Hi everyone - just an update on whats happening at Seaside Vet Surgery this week! We firstly want to reassure you that unless we all get sick, or we get told to close by the state or federal government, we will be open for you and your pets. We are upgrading our social distancing protocols to honour the new one person per 4 square metres rule introduced over the weekend. As a result of this, we are limiting the number of clients in our waiting room to only one or two at an...y given time. This means you may be asked to wait outside on the verandah (weve popped some chairs out there) or you can return to your car and wait for us to call you from the front door. We will also be introducing outdoor consultations, utilising a gazebo in the backyard - this is because our second consult room is too small to honour the 4 square metre rule. You will still receive the high standard of care you are used to, just in a lovely outdoor setting! These measures are to reduce the risk of infection for all of us - for us, for you and your family, and for the whole community. We are also moving this week to a "two team approach". This means that Drs Prue and Grace will be working Monday to Wednesday with one team of nurses, and Drs Nat and Amanda will be working Thursday to Saturday with a separate team of nurses, with Sunday on call shared. This means if one team is exposed to the virus and has to isolate for two weeks, the other team can keep things ticking along. We will need to spread out our bookings for the near future, partly to keep up our social distancing, and partly because we will have two vets only each day. So we may not be able to book you in for vaccinations, desexings and minor "elective" procedures as immediately as we normally can (ie the appointment offered might be for four days time, rather than the very next day). There will not be big delays, we will always do our best to look after you and your pets - thats what were here for!! For non-urgent appointment bookings, medication and food orders, please email us on [email protected] if you can, or otherwise call us on 88 233 233. Thank you so much to all of our clients that have embraced our social distancing measures so far. We really want to stay open to keep working with you and your pets. Lets all keep washing our hands! Thanks again, The Seaside Vet Surgery Team

18.01.2022 Please be aware that there are a few cases of Parvo virus on the YP currently - please ensure your puppies and adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations. Puppies should stay home until their vaccination course ends at 16 weeks of age - especially now with Parvo around. Stay safe everyone!!

17.01.2022 With more of us heading back to work, our dogs and cats may be feeling a bit lonely and unsettled. Dr Prue has some tips regarding feeding and enrichment for us!

17.01.2022 What a good way to end the day with puppy cuddles! Gorgeous Miniature Schanuzer pup Sadie, certainly didn’t mind all the attention!

16.01.2022 How cute does Banks the Aussie Shepherd look in a Santa hat?

16.01.2022 We loved having little Winx in hospital with us yesterday for her nasal surgery! She's a lovely dog, and being blind doesn't seem to slow her down at all! We've removed a wedge of tissue from each nostril and stitched it closed, in order to open up her nostrils. This allows better airflow through her nose, helping her to breaths better. The reduction in the effort it takes to breathe means she will be able to sleep better now, and will reduce the secondary effects on her trachea and lungs of having a squishy face. Go Winx!

15.01.2022 Santa Claws is coming next week!! Are you and your pets ready? Have you got any Christmas outfits for your pets? We'd love to see them!! Seaside Vet Surgery will be closed from 5pm Christmas Eve until 8:30am Tuesday 29th December - please let us know in the next couple of days if your pets' chronic medication is running low - avoid the Christmas week rush!!

14.01.2022 Meet Max Max is a 7yr old Kelpie, In for his annual vaccine with Dr. Grace, showing us his expert high 5 skills. What special tricks can your pets do? Show us in the comments

14.01.2022 Seaside Vet visited Coober Pedy again last week! Drs Nat and Amanda, and vet nurse Samantha ran a very busy clinic, seeing lots of lovely dogs and cats, and desexing a number of community dogs. They had a great time, and cant wait to get back up there in early November!

14.01.2022 Its Staff Profile Time: Dr John! Dr John Carles has lived on the Copper Coast for the last 30 years, opening Seaside Vet Surgery in 2013. Dr John loves being part of his clients and patients lives, and is proud to have helped so many members of our community over the years. Now based in Perth, WA, Dr John loves his trips back to Wallaroo to work and catchup with his kids, friends, workmates and clients. He also gets to catch up with clinic dog Zoe, who now lives with Sheree! Surfing and kite-surfing are often a feature of trips back to SA. He reckons hes too old for future plans, but we know Dr John will always be up to something fun! Pic: Dr John with Zoe and vet nurse Tahlia

13.01.2022 Covid-19 Cluster in Adelaide! Community transmission happening in SA again means we need to reintroduce a few protective measures at Seaside Vet Surgery. We are still absolutely open as normal, but we are reintroducing the following measures:... Please use hand sanitiser at front door. Please knock at front door and wait until invited to enter, or otherwise call us from your car to say you are here. You may be asked to wait until another client has left the waiting room before you can come in, as we've only got a teeny tiny waiting room! Only one person with each pet please, so that we can stick to the one person per 2 square metre rule (exceptions will absolutely be made for euthanasias and other critical appointments). Please call us to request medication or food refills, and plan to come to the clinic to pick it up the next day. Covid and the associated lockdowns around the world have started to affect the supply and manufacture of some commonly used veterinary medications - this means it's all the more important that you give us plenty of warning when you need a medication refill for your pet's chronic condition - please do not wait until you have one tablet left - let us know when you have a week left, so we can maintain supply for you and your pet. We're all in this together - but 1.5 metres apart!!

13.01.2022 How gorgeous is Poppy the Mini Dachshund? She came into the clinic recently for her vaccination & all of the staff were in love with her! Nurses Chloe & Stef had to have a cuddle

12.01.2022 Covid times at Seaside! Dr John showing some love to sweet Border Collie Angie We are doing curb side consults during this time which isnt so bad when the weather is nice, hopefully the rain can hold off for us

12.01.2022 Seaside Vet Surgery has fans far and wide! Diesal (left) came from Adelaide on Saturday for his vaccinations, and Chilli and Harris came in today from Adelaide too! Very happy to see our Adelaide contingent smiling!

11.01.2022 Dogs are never too big for some cuddles! Pictured is Nurse Chloe giving Barney the Labradoodle some much needed cuddles before his de sexing he definitely didnt mind as you can tell

11.01.2022 Lets talk about snail bait poisoning! While many snail bait formulations contain a bitterant to deter kids and pets from eating it, this often doesnt stop our determined doggies from having a good nibble on it anyway. Snail bait poisoning results in profuse vomiting and diarrhoea, through to collapse and seizures, and can be fatal if untreated. ... Seaside Vets recommend using non-lethal forms of snail control, such as snail traps, in order to protect our foraging furry friends.

11.01.2022 Happy Wednesday everyone! As of today, Seaside Vet Surgery is operating curbside consultations - this is so that only staff and patients enter the building, to reduce the risk of community spread of coronavirus. When you call or email to make your appointment, we will email you a history questionnaire, which you can complete and email back to us. When you arrive for your appointment, or to pick up medication or food, please stay in your car and call us to tell us you have ar...rived. A staff member will come out to the car to collect your pet and take them into the building to be examined/treated by the vet. The vet will call you to discuss any further history needed, examination findings etc - a phone consultation. Payment will be taken over the phone, as our preference, and then your pet and any medications, food etc will be returned to your car. We will ask you to remove any collars/leads/harnesses from your dog and put on a slip lead that we will provide you. For our feline patients, please wash out their carrier with soapy water and dry in the sun before your appointment. Please use clean newspaper only in the bottom of the carrier. Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation with these social distancing measures. Its so important for all of us to do our part in reducing the spread of the virus, and this is how we can contribute. Stay safe everyone, and remember to wash your hands!! 06.01.2022 Even Vets dogs can get problems too! Clinic dog Zoe had to under go anaesthetic for some much needed dental work today. Luckily enough it was just a simple scale and polish to freshen up her pearly whites. She certainly loved all the extra attention and cuddles from everybody today.

05.01.2022 Hello to our wonderful clients - we hope everyone is going okay in this uncertain time! If you need food, medication refills, flea or tick treatment, or any merchandise, can we please ask you to call or email us beforehand to let us know what you need? We can then organise a pickup time with you, and a phone payment. This is necessary for the time being, as we are running with less staff than normal due to our two teams protocol. Please email [email protected] or phone 88 233 233. Thank you so much! And thanks so much to everyone who posted photos of their pets on our thread on the weekend - some fantastic snaps there!

04.01.2022 UPDATE: While we are an essential service, and can remain open, we have been advised that we must only provide essential services. This means that we have to assess every booking request to decide whether the problem can wait until after lockdown (without causing undue stress or discomfort to your pet), whether a phone consult with the vet is appropriate, or whether we need you to bring your pet to the clinic as normal. ... Please be patient with us while we work through this process - and please make use of our email [email protected] for non-urgent enquiries and food and medication requests. We will be doing our very best to look after you and your pets! Stay safe everyone!

04.01.2022 This is Ivy an adorable Australian Kelpie puppy Getting her very first puppy vaccination with Dr. Nat Fun Facts: - Kelpies have natural oils in their skin that keep their coat weather resistant... -They are able to travel up to 50km in a single day - Kelpies were bred in Australia primarily as a working dog and therefore when they dont have a job or enough attention, can easily become bored and fixated on other things such as playing fetch or digging up your yard - Kelpies can make great family pets, if you are very active and have the time and patience to train this highly intelligent breed, as they dont want to miss out on anything See more

04.01.2022 Poor little Chester had a run in with another dog at the park! Dr Nat surgically repaired and bandaged his ear on Sunday morning, before he headed home to Adelaide. We hope you heal up beautifully, Chester!!
