22.01.2022 Hedges in all their different forms, sizes and textures add depth, privacy and shelter to any garden. They may also add a formal element and help unify the garden. Timing of pruning depends on the variety of plant. You may prune after flowering, before the onset of new growth, or prune as required to shape and tidy. Some hedge plants only need annual pruning while others, which are faster growing, need to be pruned more often during their growing season. When pruning, always... use sharp tools and clean the blade with a damp cloth between hedges or plants to prevent the spread of disease. Lay down a tarp to catch prunings to make clean up easier. After pruning apply Seasol GOLD to the foliage and soil to help hedges recover after the stress of their ‘haircut’ and to encourage strong, healthy regrowth. 21.01.2022 Saving water is not only great for the environment, it can also help save time and money within the garden. Here are a few tips to help you save water when growing pot plants. Regularly apply a wetting agent such as Seasol Super Soil Wetter & Conditioner to the soil and activate by watering in well. Reapply throughout summer months. . Mulch large areas of bare soil with gravel or stones to reduce evaporation and moisture loss.... When hand watering plants apply water slowly, so it has a chance to soak through to the plant's roots rather than running down the inside of the pot and out through the drainage hole. See more

21.01.2022 Its Spud timeand Better Homes and Gardens Presenter @bhgaus Melissa King @melissakinginthegarden has all the tips to get you growing your own gourmet home-grown potatoes. I love growing potatoes because nothing beats homegrown flavour and I can experiment with unique varieties that bring something different to the garden and plate. For something different try growing Royal Blue potatoes which have beautiful royal blue skin. The skin colour turns golden brown when you make it into chips, but its also delicious roasted or made into a creamy yellow mash. Dutch cream is another top choice for mashing, with lovely creamy flesh. Or you might like to grow beloved Maris Piper spuds. Both Jamie Oliver and Heston reckon this classic UK potato is one of the best for making chips and roasted potatoes.

18.01.2022 There is no finer sight than a beautiful, well-maintained lawn. If you are putting in a lawn for the first time, you have two choices: staring with turf or seed. Prepare the soil well before laying turf or sowing seed following the instructions provided by the turf supplier or on the seed box. Once you have finished laying turf or sowing seed, water thoroughly. Make sure the turf is in good contact with the soil. If possible, use a lawn roller to get rid of any air pockets in... the turf. For good growth, give the lawn area a good dose of Seasol Lawn & Turf Starter to help develop a strong root system and aid overall lawn health. Apply every 7 to 10 days during the first five weeks of growth. For more information, check out https://www.seasol.com.au//p/seasol-lawn-and-turf-starter/

11.01.2022 Springs arrived and its a great time to get cracking in the garden. Here are three jobs to get you started. 1. Hang yellow sticky bug traps in the vegie garden. These small plastic strips are a very effective way of controlling whitefly and thrips. To stop non-pests from getting trapped, hang the trap inside a cage such as a birdcage. 2. Treat the garden with a wetting agent such as Seasol Super Soil Wetter & Conditioner before temperatures start to warm up to help conser...ve soil moisture and overcome any water repellency thats developed. 3. Grab the secateurs or hedge shears. Plants are actively growing and hedges such as Japanese box, rosemary and lillypilly can be trimmed as they develop their soft new growth. A very light prune now and again in October will ensure they stay bushy right through the year. Before you start pruning, check there are no bird nests in hedges! Happy Gardening!

11.01.2022 There are many benefits to be had from growing vegies in pots over spring and summer. For a start, they look good and, in the right pot, add a decorative feature to the garden or entertaining area. If the pots are not too heavy, they can be moved around to catch the sun. As there’s no heavy digging or turning of soil, containers are also easy to plant and manage. They are also easy to water especially during times of water restrictions. Most vegies can be grown in containers.... The trick is to know how large they will grow, to ensure the pot is big enough for the mature plant. If you have never grown vegies in pots before start with easy leafy greens such as soft-hearted lettuce or herbs such as basil. Also good in pots over summer are compact tomatoes and chillies. TIP: Apply Seasol and PowerFeed every two weeks keeps vegies healthy and growing strongly.

09.01.2022 Have some fun in the garden and teach your kids how plants grow in pots from seed. Select easy vegetable crops such as lettuce, radishes, herbs or microgreens and watch your kids eyes light up as they harvest and taste their first produce. Heres a couple of tips to get you started. Use a plastic or clay pot or any container such as old ice cream, juice, or milk container. Put a couple of holes in the bottom of the container for the water to drain through.... Fill up the container with seed raising or potting mix. Sow the seeds following the directions on the pack for planting depth and spacing. Water the seeds in with Seasol (mix 30mL of Seasol concentrate per 9 litres of water). Position your seedling pot on a sunny windowsill or out in the garden in a sunny position. Water gently but regularly so they dont dry out. Happy harvest and post us some photos of your crop.

09.01.2022 With the official start of summer only two days away it critical to ensure that any water you apply to your garden or lawn gets down to where it’s needed the root system. If you have noticed water is pooling on top or running off the soil, then it could be hydrophobic repelling water. If your soil is behaving this way it may be a sign that you need a wetting agent such as Seasol Super Soil Wetter & Conditioner. It’s a soil wetter, soil conditioner and plant health treatment in one. For more information, please visit https://www.seasol.com.au//seasol-super-soil-wetter-condi/

01.01.2022 If your lawnmower has been in the shed over winter, now is the time to do some lawn mower maintenance to get it ready for its spring workout. Here are a few simple checks, but for a thorough check, take it to your local hardware or lawn mower centre. 1 Safety first: insure your lawnmower is turned off before starting. 2 Start by removing any debris including grass in the catcher, then give it a good clean using rags and a soft bristle brush. 3 Apply a lubricant such... as WD-40 to moving parts including wheels, throttle cable and height adjuster. 4 Check mower blades (are they sharp or blunt and damaged) and replace if needed. 5 Check the spark plug, air filter and oil. 6 Replace any old fuel left in the mower. Happy mowing!

01.01.2022 There are many native plants, that in their own habitat are considered rare and endangered. Home gardeners play a vital role in the cultivation of certain Australian plant species. Next time you visit your local Australian plants specialist be sure to collect a rare species to take home to care for. Often the rare species are not too hard to grow, often they are facing extinction in their native habitat due to habitat destruction. Eremophila nivea is a classic example, this hardy native is grown widely for its outstanding silver foliage and mauve flowers yet is considered rare in its native habitat. Perfectly suited to an open sunny position this Silky Eremophila will grow successfully in many different soil types once established.
