21.01.2022 Please share this everyone, Brett is our Farrier. He has the biggest heart and is always available to lend a hand for anyone, he has rescued me on more than once when I've broken down and been stranded on the side of the road.. He has been there to help save my horse Gypsy when she had colic, and my dog Jethro is alive thanks to Brett.. He has been through some tough times lately and now his ute was stolen last night. Let's help him get it back

17.01.2022 Oh wow a year ago.. Lots have happened to Miss Gypsy in this time to bring us closer.. She had an accident (went through a fence and got a nasty star picket injury) and had to be stabled for almost 3 weeks because of infections due to it raining so heavily.. I had to learn to give needles because she needed 3 a day, she was a very good patient.. I swam through flood water twice to make sure she didnt miss out on her penicillin that day.. Once she recovered from that inciden...t, she became very sick and had colic from drinking contaminated dam water.. (Someone dumped diesel drums in the dam) Then we were moving paddocks she had an accident in the float, which caused another nasty injury.. So Miss Gypsy has been having a long rest from riding and is still being treated for her injuries.. Once she is well, I will be training her on the ground for a few months, before riding her again.. I have lots of fun new exersises for her to learn, which should strengthen our bond even more before we get back to riding.. Ill be sharing some of Gypsys stories for you all to read soon.. See more

16.01.2022 The Horse Person Horse owner acquaintances fall into 2 categories....Horse person and Non horse person. The Horse person knows the difference between a bridle a...nd a halter, what a hoof pick is and which end the combo piece of the rug goes... They are the ones you call when your horse goes through a fence, gets injured and arrive bearing all essentials including pain relief... The horse person is the one who takes turns walking a colicking horse whilst waiting for a vet, and is your voice of reason when you cant be.... When given baling twine, the Horse person morphs into a modern day MacGyver, there is nothing they cant fix.... They examine poop with you, hold torches for you and also have a wardrobe with one section dedicated to "Paddock Fashion".... During the summer months a horse persons choice of makeup is dirt and sweat with numerous "beauty" spots...also known as flies....these are only temporary.... The horse person has a tack shed that to an outsider looks like a tangled mess of ropes and leather but not to them....they are able to put their hand on exactly what they need in a heartbeat... When asked "can you just check the horses on the way past" the horse person knows this means.... Check the water.. Check the fenceline... Check the gates shut and check for injuries... The horse person lives by the "Survival guide of the bush"....The horse will always kick...the bull will always charge and the gun is always loaded....remember those rules and life will be a little easier. When greeted by flattened ears from a mare in season, the horse person will casually walk right up to them and say "Mornin Darlin is that the best youve got.." The horse person is often covered in scrapes and bruises with blisters on their hands....they will be sore where you didnt think it would be possible to be sore and quite often have a broken bone or two.....mention a Doctor and the response will be "Nah she'll be right".... They are the ones who take note of wind changes thru bushfires and message you telling you that the float is hooked up and they are on their way to get your horses out.... The horse person knows what Psyllium is used for and the importance of salt..... They can rattle off every worming paste they have ever used and the date of the next treatment but ask them when they had their last personal health check and youll be met with a blank stare.... And whilst they are there for all of the good days, they are also there for the hardest...... The horse person will offer to make the call when you cant and offer to hold the lead rope as you say goodbye... They will know whether to stand by your side or give you the space that you desire...either way itll be done as their own silent tears fall down their face.... Whilst the horses are our herd....the horse people are our tribe.. Horse ownership reality... Would I have it any other way? Not in a thousand lifetimes........

14.01.2022 Last kiss: I'll never forget the day my mom called me in a panic "Janna, you've got to convince your daddy to get rid of that horse, its gonna kill him!". Major... (AKA "Major Deal" as mama named him) was a young and vicious stallion when dad bought him. He "couldn't be broke". The men who owned him previously had used a technique to break horses that involved beatings and tying his head tightly between two posts where they left him standing without food or water for 4 weeks. Major stood strong. When dad brought him home, he barreled through five strands of fence within minutes of arriving and he'd Bite and strike at anyone within distance. My dad never broke him.... he earned his heart. Every single day, for hours and hours dad worked to earn that abused horse's trust. Love won and after two full years, Major allowed my dad to ride him. When dad would go out, Major would kiss him on the head over and over. They had a bond that only horse people could ever understand. It seemed only fitting to let Major say goodbye. This is Major's last kiss. <3 See more

11.01.2022 I SPOKE TO YOU IN WHISPERS By Neil Andrew I spoke to you in whispers... As shells made the ground beneath us quake We both trembled in that crater A toxic muddy bloody lake I spoke to you and pulled your ears To try and quell your fearful eye As bullets whizzed through the raindrops And we watched the men around us die I spoke to you in stable tones A quiet tranquil voice At least I volunteered to fight You didn't get to make the choice I spoke to you of old times Perhaps you went before the plough And pulled the haycart from the meadow Far from where we're dying now I spoke to you of grooming Of when the ploughman made you shine Not the shrapnel wounds and bleeding flanks Mane filled with mud and wire and grime I spoke to you of courage As gas filled the Flanders air Watched you struggle in the mud Harness acting like a snare I spoke to you of peaceful fields Grazing beneath a setting sun Time to rest your torn and tired body Your working day is done I spoke to you of promises If from this maelstrom I survive By pen and prose and poetry I'll keep your sacrifice alive I spoke to you of legacy For when this hellish time is through All those who hauled or charged or carried Will be regarded heroes too I spoke to you in dulcet tones Your eye told me you understood As I squeezed my trigger to bring you peace The the only way I could And I spoke to you in whispers...... 11.01.2022 Update on Brett's ute.. Still missing, please keep sharing the post so we can help him find it..

10.01.2022 I am very proud of this little mare Zena.. Many years ago when I first met her, she was neglected, forgotten about and alone in a paddock. She was very timid, anxious and at times dangerously volatile. It wasn't her fault that she acted like that, it was because of her fear towards humans. Zena had been used as a brood mare, and when she was no longer needed, she was abandoned.. Looking at these photos of Atreyu sitting on her and Zena being so calm and happy with the situati...on, fills me with joy... I am so proud of how far she has come, and I am pleased that she has been able to work through her trauma and live a wonderful life here at Seciond Chance Equine Experience. Lots of people asked me over the years why I keep and old broken down old mare that can't be ridden and has a bad attitude for? I always thought "Why Not?" I see her as a beautiful soul who has been broken by the mistreatment she suffered by humans. To me, that made me want to help her more.. I felt like it was my duty to change the way she felt towards everyone. That she deserved to be looked after and loved, even if she was rude and bad tempered. It made no difference to me that she could not be ridden or would not be "useful" Zena has given myself, my volunteers, the children and people in the community who have come for lessons so much happiness.. Zena has taught me that you can heal anything with patience, kindness, respect, and most of all.. with LOVE... LOVE...LOVE... Every horse deserves a second chance.. I am so glad I was able to give Zena hers..

05.01.2022 Really needed some time in nature today.. I have been so busy lately so taking some time out from all the chores (Fencing, grooming, feeding horses ect..) was so rejuvenating..

04.01.2022 I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who called or messaged ect about helping me today.. Im So sorry that I couldnt get back to some people, it was a very upsetting, stressful start to the day, and I was feeling quiet overwhelmed in the huge task I had ahead of me.. Even though I feel like I need to share what the horses and I are going through with everybody, I cant say exactly what was so urgent and why I desperately needed helpers right now.. I am so grateful to everyone... who offered to help and Im hoping to reply to all the messages soon.. THANK YOU.. I took this video this afternoon, and you can clearly tell that not only myself but the horses felt a sense of relief and were acting very playful and happy, even our newest ex racehorse Cracker who had to be retired because he fractured his pelvis and broke his tail bone.. (He had a very bad accident whilst being transported in a horse truck) It is lovely to see him having fun with the herd and feeling much better in general.. Hope you all enjoy watching them as much as I did today.. See more
