The spoon theory explains the toll liv...ing with chronic illness takes on your energy each day, with spoons being represented as spoons. Each activity takes a number of spoons. Once all your spoons are used, it is time to slow down the pace to avoid overdoing things. How can using the spoon theory help you to plan your day? Understanding your energy levels, or the number of spoons you have, helps you to plan your day. If you know you have a doctors appointment, which involves time driving, sitting and the anxiety and stress that often comes with health care appointments. Then using the spoon theory helps you to plan ways to cushion the remainder of the day: - Freeze left overs and use them for dinner - Save non-urgent tasks or chores for a quieter day - Ask for help - Break the journey to and from the doctors up - Pace your sitting - Using meditation, soothing music, or other calming techniques to reduce stress levels - Call ahead of time to see if the doctor is running on time The spoon theory also helps you to avoid booming and busting and helps you to schedule in rest.
