20.01.2022 There has been significant confusion and misinformation being posted and shared on the origins of Australia Day on Jan 26th ( it wasn’t the day Captain Cook arrived, it was based on this or that...etc) . This is a solid read and explainer on the historical significance of Jan 26th. Note First Australian’s have been protesting and calling for a ‘day of national mourning’ to recognise their dispossession since 1938. https://t.co/FkGa7gRbM5
18.01.2022 I didn’t hold out much hope that #JulianAssange would be pardoned by Trump yesterday-he kinda didn’t fit the mold so to speak (like convicted war criminals, felons and tainted associates of Trump etc) What does give me hope however is the massive outpouring of support and calls for him to be pardoned. Especially in the #US #USA. Not just a veritable twitter storm of support either but key and high profile people going public. This is a million miles from where we were just a... few months ago and it gives us reasons to be optimistic. This is a political campaign to stop a political persecution. So these voices are critical. Many thanks to you all, this is a great base to build on in the days to come, putting pressure on the new Biden administration to walk away from this madness of political extradition for truth telling. As Edward Snowden said yesterday, ‘I’d rather not have a state than not have a voice’. Special thanks to @PamelaAnderson and other who worked Trump tirelessly to get a pardon. 11.01.2022 Outgoing POTUS Trump is expected to pardon up to 200 people tomorrow. Although its hard to be shocked in the age of Trump, I’m still reeling from reading that bribes have been discussed by parties both close to POTUS and those seeking pardons. Today many prominent people from around the globe signed a new plea to pardon Assange (including many Aussie politicians). We will find out tomorrow if Assange has been pardoned. Please read this article below if you wish to know more about this letter. https://t.co/4kpDw4DNpc
11.01.2022 A shout out to those in or near Deloraine in Tassie, Sea Shepherd Tasmania is screening this National Geographic Documentary Film Sea of Shadows. Check it out if you can "Mexican drug cartels have discovered the cocaine of the sea, a valuable fish called the Totoabawhich is at the centre of a multimillion-dollar business with the Chinese Mafia. To find the fish, these cartels are destroying the ecosystem with illegal gill nets and, in doing so, are killing the Earth’s smallest porpoisethe vaquita."
03.01.2022 Do you think Australia is a racist country? Australia Day’ is Invasion Day. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Its time for some ‘truth telling’. My opinion piece in the The Examiner Newspaper, Launceston on why we must change the date, as an important step towards reconciliation and treaty. ... https://www.examiner.com.au//australia-day-has-become-inv/
