22.01.2022 Orchid Delirium (2000) A behind-the-scenes look at the world of orchid enthusiasts explores reasons for what executive producer Robert Schurgin calls the "age-o...ld mystique" of the flowers. The program was taped in March and April 2000 at orchid shows in Miami and New York City, and in homes of orchid growers and collectors. It also looks at the history of (and mythology surrounding) orchid cultivation, dating back to ancient times. Also: a look at the "incredible variety" of orchids. Betsy Ames narrates. See more

21.01.2022 Unfortunately tomorrow nights meeting has been cancelled. Please pass the word around, we wouldnt want any one to show up to an empty hall. Hopefully we will see you all next month.

19.01.2022 I was asked how the cooler works in the greenhouse. It is pretty straight-forward and used in most large nurseries.

17.01.2022 The Vanilla Dome. A pilot greenhouse in cool, temperate Australia.

17.01.2022 This is another installment of the Catasetinae work. Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement - so here is more from your most humble... Also, the Golden Elf 'Sundust' HCC/AOS is a semi-mini Cymbidium and it was 97F yesterday so I guess you could say it is heat-tolerant.

17.01.2022 The top table with all the winners from our annual show.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to all the winning plants and exhibitors at the South Eastern Orchid Society annual show for 2020. See all the included photos for details.

12.01.2022 Hi everyone, A reminder this Tuesday evening at 730pm is our AGM. It’s not an exclusive meeting visitors are more than welcome to attend, though you have to be a financial member to be able to vote. So that’s also a reminder to our current members to please pay your membership first to our treasurer.... A silly point but don’t forget your orchids for benching and any other orchids that you may wish to sell. We have been received a couple of enquires about orchids for sale, so a possible chance of extra cash for Christmas presents See you there

11.01.2022 Just a reminder that all photos of your orchids that have flowered this month need to be posted by midnight tomorrow night to be eligible for this months virtual benching. You don't have to be a member of our society to be eligible.

10.01.2022 By the looks, WOC has been cancelled Beautiful looking ...

10.01.2022 So we would like to try something different during this time that we can't have our normal meetings. Obviously we are all still growing orchids and they are flowering as usual, but no body is able to see them. So what if we do a virtual benching/show. So you would take a photo of your flowers and post them here with its name. The picture would need to be taken this month (we trust you) and then we can all vote for the ones we like. Maybe do a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for the month. So you have until the 30th April to post your pics. If it goes well we can do it again next month. I suggest we open to anyone and not just SEOS members. So what do you think?

09.01.2022 Congratulations to Phil Taylor for being awarded the judges plant of the night at the December meeting.

07.01.2022 Hi everyone A question was asked how to post your photos. Ill run through the steps and Ill involve changing your Privacy settings. Go into your phone settings and then Privacy. Then tap Facebook and then check Read and Write ... Once you have posted you then go back into your settings and recheck Never

06.01.2022 Ive heard of the tale milk, bread and sugar in a mix for in the kitchen, which I imagine would have ants in droves, but willing to try this one to rid the whole ant situation without spraying 20 cans of fly spray or flooding the pot with water and over the patio to only have them back the next day ... I did know about the Borax ridding ants, but not adding the sugar, making a mix and containing it as itll keep pets out ...

06.01.2022 Hi everyone, I know this has got nothing to with orchids, but a lot of people who are involved with horses, grow orchids except this artist... I sooo had to share the photo ... The story behind is an amazing Australian artist I follow just completed a commissioned piece on a massive monitor dragon, commonly known as a race horse goanna, which I have had the pleasure of being frightened by many a time during my mining career The artist has broken it down for transport and captured a great photo of one of their horses with such an expression Check out the Artist stunning property vistas and pieces of artwork I always think about how big the orchid houses could be #onepowerballdream

05.01.2022 Its time for everyone to vote for the orchid you like best from Aprils posts. Shannon Smoker, Ian Sutton, Kay Hall, and John Steele posted pictures. Using a 3,2,1 system with 3 being the orchid you like the most. The more people who vote the better. Anyone can vote. Results announced soon.

05.01.2022 Congratulations to Shannon Smoker for winning the judges plant of the night at the February meeting.

05.01.2022 Congratulations Shannon Smoker on winning the popular vote in the open section of the February meeting.

05.01.2022 Wouldn't we love some of these to clean up and grow orchids in.

03.01.2022 I was asked about the cooler I use in the greenhouse. It is pretty straight-forward and used by most large nurseries.

02.01.2022 A selection of other orchids benched at the December 2020 meeting.

02.01.2022 This is to answer the questions: How do you keep so many little plants watered? and, why don't I get the rot most others get? I get most of my "wet wall" stu...ff from Imperial Builders & Supply; Apopka, FL or Texas Greenhouse Co. (Eddie, 800-227-5447). The difference in my greenhouse is the greatly increased fan sizes (specs call for 2 24 inch fans) and numbers of fans. I know you are wonderful, intuitive and sagacious (wise), but there are people who actually think one - 24 inch fan is plenty, and 2 is overkill. I respectfully disagree and here is why. See more

02.01.2022 A selection of other orchids benched at the July 2020 meeting.

02.01.2022 Hi Everyone Hope your orchids are doing great, ready to bloom and benching again Thats right our meetings will resume 21 July and we have plenty to discuss. Unfortunately the Inter-Society Challenge has been cancelled for 2020, but SEOS will be hosting the event in 2021.... A subject for the first meeting will be our annual show in August See you next month
