23.01.2022 What is the difference between a plan manager and a support coordinator and a partner in the community? A plan manager will pay providers for supports delivered. A plan manager will help you monitor your funds, and provide financial reporting. A support coordinator will support you to understand and implement supports included in your plan. A support coordinator will link you to providers and other community and government services. A support coordinator will also support yo...u to build skills and direction. An NDIS Partner in the Community delivering Local Area Coordination or Early Childhood Early Intervention Services may provide plan implementation and monitoring support to you. Partner organisations are appointed by the NDIA to help you understand the NDIS, and find providers of support suited to your needs.

15.01.2022 OUT NOW The 2019 Review of the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013 report (link below). It makes 29 recommendations to improve the participant experience, including new standards and processes to support the delivery of the Participant Service Guarantee.... From 1 July 2020, the Guarantee will set new standards for the time it takes for key steps in the NDIS process. This means there will be shorter, agreed timeframes for people to receive a decision on whether they will be covered by the NDIS, to receive an NDIS plan and to have a plan reviewed. READ THE REPORT HERE: https://www.dss.gov.au/disabi/review-of-the-ndis-act-report

14.01.2022 What is psychosocial disability? Psychosocial disability is a term used to describe a disability that may arise from a mental health issue. Not everyone who has a mental health condition will have a psychosocial disability, but for people who do, it can be severe, longstanding and impact on their recovery. People with a disability as a result of their mental health condition may qualify for the NDIS.... To find out more about how the NDIS can support people with psychosocial disability, contact our support coordinators @ connect4u

14.01.2022 Breaking! Minister Robert announces new measures to support NDIS participants and providers through COVID-19 NDIS Minister, Stuart Robert has just announced new measures to support providers and participants through COVID-19. The announcement noted that there will be more changes to come. Heres what we know so far:... PROVIDER SUPPORT Registered NDIS providers may receive a one-month advance payment based on a monthly average supports delivered in the previous 3 month period to provide immediate cash flow relief. A 10% COVID-19 loading will be added to price limits for certain supports for up to six months: Assistance with Daily Life (excluding Supported Independent Living) and Assistance with Social and Community Participation) Improved Daily Living Cancellations can now be charged at 100% of cancelled service and definition of short notice will be broadened. Providers can also continue to claim for the increased use of cleaning and personal protective equipment associated with COVID-19. PLANNING Participants can request to have their planning meetings over the phone People who are happy with their current plan can ask for it be renewed for up to 24 months The NDIA will allow some people to shift capacity building funding to funding for core supports in consultation with special teams of planners in the NDIA. The NDIA will be reaching out to "targeted higher risk NDIS participants" to ensure these people continue to receive the essential disability related supports they need. There is clearly some detail to be filled in to these announcements, which we will share as soon as we have it. You can read the media release here: https://ministers.dss.gov.au/media-releases/5661

12.01.2022 COVID-19 - HELPFUL INFORMATION Centrelink If you find yourself unemployed (and you meet the rest of the Jobseeker Allowance criteria) you can apply to Cen...trelink for a Jobseeker Allowance. EDIT: The best way to start the process is over the phone by ringing 132 850. You need to have the following ID on hand; - passport - birth certificate - bank card - drivers license They will then give you a linking code and you can then create a MyGov account (if you havent already got one) and make your application online - at home. Please know it will probably take a couple of hours to get through let alone do what needs to be done to get a linking code, have snacks and water. Worried about paying your rent Your best bet is to be honest and upfront with your landlord/agent. Everybody is in the same boat. If you cant pay all of your rent due to loss of income, try to pay something every week if you can, it will help all parties. Your landlord should contact their bank about mortgage relief. Most major banks have something in the pipeline. There is actually a petition going around from Tenants QLD to request no evictions during COVID-19 - please sign and share; https://tenantsqld.org.au/ Need food assistance The following link will take you to a list of all the agencies on the Gold Coast that do food aid and emergency relief. Please ring first to see if and how they are operating now; https://go.aws/2U9iRvY Creditors Any institution that you might owe money to, ring them and again be upfront and honest. Most major lending institutes have the facility to defer payments for a certain period. You wont know till you ask. Power Bills Queensland households experiencing problems paying their electricity or reticulated natural gas bills as a result of an unforeseen emergency or a short-term financial crisis can apply to the Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme. This is a one-off emergency assistance to help with paying your home energy bills of up to $720 once every 2 years. https://www.qld.gov.au//home-energy-emergency-assistance-s FEEL FREE TO SHARE

10.01.2022 Support Coordination in Core! With many people struggling to access their disability supports, Support Coordination has become an essential service. Thankfully, the Agency has recognised that. A new line item for Support Coordination has been added to Core. This will allow participants without Support Coordination funding (or who have used all of theirs up) to access the service through their Core budget. The Support Coordinator does not need to be registered to provide Core services. But people who are Agency managed will still need to use a registered provider.

05.01.2022 Dear Participants, Families and Guardians Connect-4U update Coronavirus disease (COVID-19)... The health and safety of our participants and staff is always our top priority. As the situation with COVID 19 rapidly changes, so does our planning for scenario responses and service delivery. On Wednesday night, 18 March, we welcomed the announcement from the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Disability Reform Council, that Disability Services would be deemed as essential services. We understand at this time that Connect -4u will continue to remain open for business. Our service delivery model will change as the Crisis with COVID-19 Virus continues. As our country begins to go into self-isolation and lockdown, Connect-4u along with several other organisations has suspended all Face to Face contact until further notice effective immediately. Our Team will be available remotely, via phone and email. Our Team will continue to complete wellness checks, navigate provider services, advocate on your behalf and assist with zoom or skype meetings as needed to. For any emergency meetings, please contact your support coordinator so that we can consider how we provide your support needs in the safest way possible. We encourage you to cancel non-essential appointments and stay home, especially if you are displaying cold and flu-like symptoms, please contact your GP if you have any concerns that may need medical attention. We wish you all the best remain positive, and we will all get through this challenging time. Warmest Regards The Connect-4u team Andrew, Kylie, Carolyn, Amanda and Lullita

04.01.2022 I hope you are all staying safe and well - connect-4u are here to listen and support and questions you have around your NDIS plan Breaking news out of the NDIS this afternoon ... The NDIA are making changes to their system over the weekend to make sure NDIS participants and their families have what they need to manage the impact of the Coronavirus.... Theres lots of info but heres the main points: Plans will no longer end. If your plan is due to end soon and you still have not heard anything it will automatically extend for 365 days. You will not have to do anything - it will automatically extend for a year. If you have a plan review scheduled you will be called on the phone. If you are happy you can have a new plan for up to 24 months. If you dont currently have support coordination in your plan but would like to so you manage everything over the coming months you can use your core funding to pay for a support coordinator. There are now new line items in the price guide to pay for this. If you need more funds to do this you will need to ask for a review A new price guide was also released today to cover the new prices announced on the weekend (yes we heard you all groan) You can find all todays announcements here - https://www.ndis.gov.au/news/4676-covid-19-updates These are really really helpful changes that we are relieved to see. We know it doesnt solve lots of things for lots of people - but it is a great step forward. There will be more to come. UPDATE: Theres another new page called "What happens when..." at https://www.ndis.gov.au//ndis-and-disast/what-happens-when - it has some new answers weve all been asking, but well keep seeking more answers. (Image description: A red rectangle with the words "Breaking News" in white capital letters. Underneath the words you can see the Every Australian Counts logo and the words "NDIS: Make It Work)
