21.01.2022 RPA will soon be home to the state’s first purpose-built public inpatient unit for new mothers with severe mental illness. The eight-bed unit was announced toda...y by the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Mental Health Bronnie Taylor - and welcomed by baby Arlo and his mums Genevieve and Lizz Whitlam from Lilyfield. Genevieve experienced psychosis after Arlo’s birth, followiing a bout of mastitis and septicaemia. She spent several weeks undergoing psychiatric treatment in Royal North Shore and RPA, missing vital time with Arlo. She is contributing to the design of the new unit, which will be constructed near the Professor Marie Bashir Centre. We want these women to receive the care they need, as well as the opportunity to form a bond with their babies in those all-important, formative months, Ms Berejiklian said. Mrs Taylor said the new Mothers and Babies Unit would provide multidisciplinary support to those with severe mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar mood disorder or schizoaffective disorder. Severe mental illness in the year after childbirth can impact on parenting capacity, the parent-infant attachment and child development. It can result in long-term consequences for a mother, her baby, partner and family. Each of the bedrooms will accommodate a mother, up to two infants under 12 months and a partner or family member. There will also be space and equipment for antenatal care, a 24-hour respite nursery, a mothercraft room, a play area, a retreat room and communal areas to accommodate multiple families. The unit is expected to be operational by the end of next year. A huge thanks to Genevieve and Lizz for sharing their story. See more

17.01.2022 "What if our religion was each other. If our practice was our life. If prayer, our words. What if the temple was the Earth. If forests were our church. If holy ...water--the rivers, lakes, and ocean. What if meditation was our relationships. If the teacher was life. If wisdom was self-knowledge. If love was the center of our being." ~ Ganga White photographer unknown. See more
16.01.2022 SLEEP Who would LOVE some more tools to help with better SLEEP? Do you struggle to get to sleep or fall back asleep after waking in the night?... We all long and hang out for a great night sleep, for some this is easy and always has been, for others it is not so straight forward. Sleep is something many people contact me about each week, either for themselves or their children. We have some great sleep rituals in our home that I have created and figured out over the years. I don't have much in my tank if I don't get a great night sleep after having malaria so I am always trying a few new things here and there and tweaking them along the way. My children's Gentle Moments Sleep Meditation program that I recorded back in 2016 is still cracking on and putting many children to sleep every night, I love hearing from families about how much this program helps their children get to sleep. I have recorded a new program that has 8 meditation, visualisation and affirmation tracks suitable for the WHOLE family! My new program- "Peaceful Nights- Meditations for Deep & Restful Sleep" is not just downloadable recordings but I have also included a printable deck of sleep affirmation cards and a beautiful e-book filled with sleep tea recipes, diffuser blends, roller bottle blends and sleep spray blend ideas. We are just finishing off a few bits and pieces and I look forward to sharing this with you in the next week.

09.01.2022 MELBOURNE Happening now in Australia. What I wrote aa a reason for signing "Wholistic health and wellbeing covers emotional psychological and environmental health. A family member or loved one visiting is a vital part of the path to healing. A purely clincial approach is outdated, limited and backward. As a Therapeutic Counsellor I urge the government, health and hospital policy makers to urgently revise their appraoches. Look for solutions rarher than a hardline no visit ...to ICU. No one deserves to be left critically ill to die alone; a visit in the last hour is not enough. I urge you to consider if this was your son, your brother or your husband would you want them to be abandoned when your visit and contact was denied. Left to die alone, how would you feel? Please, please find a way. Make a bubble room, head to toe PPE, something! This is urgent. This is life and death we are talking here!"

03.01.2022 If you’re feeling blah and stuck in a rut it might be time to think about the things, events and people that make up your days. If they are filled with negativi...ty, drama, bad news you can choose to let that shit go. Surround yourself with positive things that put a smile on your face, immerse yourself in nature, surround yourself with happy upbeat people and groups, find and do the stuff that brings you some joy. There’s so much going on in the world right now. So much fear and bad news. Turn the TV off, disconnect from social media if it’s bringing you down. Stop engaging in any gossip. Start small, start with today. What can you do or give to yourself that puts a smile on your face ?
