Yesterday Pedro encountered a brand new person in our house for the first time in a few months (#covid19) Instead of barking at her from across the room like he would have done 6-12 months ago before our behaviour mod and medication plan, he RAN up to her excitedly and asked for pats, wiggling his bum and tail. He offered sits and even did a 'nose boop' when she asked! ... For Pedro to offer behaviour to a stranger is HUGE. For Pedro to happily respond to a cue from a stranger is EVEN BIGGER! When we have a small group it allows each dog the time and space it needs to get to know each other and make good choices about how to respond. Every dog has a different personality, so it's important for your dog to find those they mesh well with. Exposure for exposures sake is unlikely to produce great results. Large and busy grou...ps can overwhelm a lot of dogs, leading to poor decision making in social interactions.
