25.01.2022 This is Jon and Caroline's DIY Organic Pool. They documented the build from start to finish on their brilliant Instagram page, https://www.instagram.com/jonsnaturalswimmingpooljourney/ Do take a look.

23.01.2022 The best time to do this is when 'Precipitation exceeds evaporation'. The next best time to do this is when you have the time!

21.01.2022 I wonder if the mesh top would keep the mice out?

16.01.2022 I've been very busy with my day job - but hopefully now a lot more time for all things permaculture! Here is a great information page about transplanting seedlings the come up in the garden but need to be moved. https://deepgreenpermaculture.com//the-fastest-way-to-tr/

16.01.2022 How to make drought proof wicking beds using an IBC tote. 15.01.2022 Step by step in 15 photos: How I made my mud hen coop. An animal shelter is a perfect way to practice using cob. It’s basically a miniature version of a house, ...so you get to try out all the techniques on a manageable scale before committing to a more ambitious structure. You can build this alone (I did), it costs next to nothing, and you don't need a permit. So that's all your procrastination excuses down the drain. Time to stop dreaming and give it a go! http://www.themudhome.com//how-i-made-my-cob-chicken-coop- See more

14.01.2022 Some great videos on here - I have turmeric envy after watching the one on Turmeric!!

10.01.2022 Looks like a good one.

10.01.2022 Zai holes are originally a west african growing technique to grow crops on severely degraded soil. Zaï holes were reintroduced since the 1980s by Yacouba Sawad...ogo, a farmer from Burkina Faso, who introduced the innovation of filling them with manure and compost to provide plant nutrients. The manure attracts termites, whose tunnels help further break up the soil. He also slightly increased the size of the holes over the traditional models. Zaï holes help by improving the yields of trees, sorghum, and millet by up to 500 percent. We used a similar technique when growing in garden patches ravaged by bamboo with great success!

09.01.2022 It’s been a while since I’ve grown lablab beans (Lablab purpureus). Leaves and flowers are edible raw, but I prefer them cooked in a stir fry. Eating flowers is... a novelty because the more you eat, the fewer seed you’ll harvest. If you want to eat whole pods with the beans inside, pick them when they’re semi-mature (as an alternative ‘snow pea’). Just remember to boil them well: seed and pods are poisonous raw. I simmer them for five minutes, throw out the water, add fresh boiling water and simmer again. Three x 5 minutes with 3 changes of water each time eliminates toxins. The seed (on their own) are used to make tofu and tempeh. I add them in curries. I was introduced to lablab beans by Gordon, a Caribbean gardener who worked at Kew Gardens when I was a student and exploring vegansim. See: http://tropical.theferns.info/viewtropical.php

07.01.2022 "Hi Jerry, I live in Brisbane and have these beans accidentally. What is it? Can it be a eaten? Thanks, Yen" Reply: Hi Yen, These are Phaseolus lunatus, Madagas...car bean or lima bean, which has very edible seed. I grow them on frames of a wigwam, and I let mine grow for two years, after which their productivity declines. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lima_bean Cheers, Jerry

07.01.2022 I might follow Jerry's lead and plant a crop each month - no such thing as to such corn on the cob!!

06.01.2022 Watched it last night - what a great movie. The solutions to Climate change. Very Empowering!

01.01.2022 Still my favourite plant.
