25.01.2022 Weekend 2, and the newly nicknamed Angels in Orange, headed Back to Bunyip once again, to continue their work, assisting the local community. This weekend, 32 v...olunteer members from 11 Units; Chelsea, Whitehorse, Malvern, Monash, Northcote, Hobsons Bay, Greater Dandenong, Frankston, Glen Eira, Footscray and Pakenham were on hand to assist in clearing multiple properties of downed trees and logs. Thanks to the crazy Melbourne weather, this weekend was far cooler for the members working on the chainsaws. Once again, a huge thank you to everyone involved for a great job and a great VICSES initiative. Big thanks to Chelsea member Deb for the great pictures. See more

23.01.2022 Lest we forget

23.01.2022 Tonight some of our R.C.R (Road Crash Rescue) qualified members participated in skills maintenance with the equipment used to rescue a trapped person from a road crash. Vital skills that need constant maintaining. Well done - another great demonstration on how to cut up a car in preparation to extricate a trapped person.

21.01.2022 Tonight’s training for general members was an introduction to S.W.A.H’s (safe working at heights) in readiness for when they do their qualifications. This is a vital skill for when we need to work at heights on roofs etc. Great work by our general members and our instructors!

20.01.2022 Nation Week of Deaf People - Pakenham SES celebrates National Week of Deaf People. We have volunteer members who know Auslan and assist when attending jobs when Auslan is needed. It’s a fabulous language to be fluent in and assists us in the deaf community as an emergency service. Happy National Week of Deaf People!

20.01.2022 Pakenham SES Supporting community in recovery - "Chaps and Chainsaws" Pakenham SES is very proud to have two of our volunteers join many other amazing SES volunteers in the "Chaps and Chainsaws" program. The Chaps and Chainsaws program was suspended last year due to covid and now that restrictions have lifted the program is again up and running. The program is within the Bunyip area that was affected by the fires in early 2019. ... "Chaps and Chainsaws" is where SES chainsaw crews go to an identified property that has been affected, and assist with cutting up trees that have been felled as a result of the fire activity (either during, or deemed unsafe after). A win / win - Both skills maintenance and supporting the community in recovery. Thank you Aimee and Nic

16.01.2022 Due to the nature of COVID-19, in recent times we’d taken a break from face-to-face skills maintenance and training to focus only on responding to emergencies. From this week, you might see Pakenham SES back out undertaking training in small groups to ensure we have the essential skills capability required to respond to an emergency. Emergency services as a permitted industry are able to conduct critical training and exercising under the directions, as endorsed by the Victor...ian Chief Health Officer. Our crews are following all the COVIDSafe principles, wearing masks and working hard to ensure we are there for our community. Victoria State Emergency Service Pakenham.

11.01.2022 Saturday 19th December is the day of our annual Santa Run with SES Pakenham Unit. We will start at 10am and finish at 4pm. As per previous years santa will stop... at the predetermined stop locations. This year will be a slight difference as Santa won't be allowed off the truck and to mingle with the kids due to covid restrictions. Please bring your mask and wear it while at the Santa stop as social distancing may be an issue. Please note this particular run will be just for the Pakenham brigade area if you live outside this area then you will be in a neighbouring brigades area. As always operational response requirements will take priority so stay tuned to this Pakenham Brigade Facebook page on the day for any last minute changes due to response calls for either service. The maps to the Santa stop routes can be found here. https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/2/edit Thank you to Pakenham SES for once again joining us in our yearly festive tradition.

09.01.2022 Pakenham SES attended this accident today. Great work by our amazing volunteers!

07.01.2022 Pakenham SES would like to congratulate one of our incredible volunteers, Chris Rogers, for the amazing achievement of Cardinia Shire’s 2021 Citizen of the year. Chris Rogers has been a volunteer with the Pakenham SES unit for 36 years providing emergency support. While there are many volunteers that have given their time, Chris goes above and beyond, not just attending to local emergencies, being deployed to other parts of Victoria and interstate but also giving up his ...Sunday mornings to train fellow volunteers how to perform road rescue, insuring the Shire has enough competent members to assist the community with road rescues. Since mid 2009 - when records started being kept - Chris has attended to almost 1100 request for assistance, including 487 Road rescue calls, repaired over 150 residents houses during storms, cleared over 300 trees from roads, assisted police at over 30 crime scenes and attended six plane crashes. No doubt you could almost triple these numbers back to when he started in 1984. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Chris has continued responding to calls and was continually finding ways to train volunteers in road rescue, somehow making reading training books enjoyable. Chris also participates in road rescue forums, insuring the most up-to-date rescue techniques are used for the Cardinia area. Chris is a valued volunteer at Pakenham SES. We as a unit are so proud of Chris for his achievements and also thank his family for sharing Chris with our community as his knowledge and time has been invaluable. Congratulations Chris, this is an absolutely deserved award. See more

06.01.2022 You may have seen Pakenham SES out doing some much needed covid safe training around Pakenham this week. We haven’t been able to train during covid and this means our new members have had a lot to catch up on in the last week! Flood and storm sand bagging training has been happening at Pakenham Lakeside Lake as well as the field next to the unit - This is a little bit of fun in between the serious training - yes, that’s a toy chainsaw! Well done to our new members and our ama...zing Pakenham SES volunteer trainer who have worked tirelessly over the last week to finalise level one and two practical assessments! Not many more assessments now! Our road rescue volunteers have also been hard at work fine tuning their amazing skills making sure we are ready and equipped to assist with road crash rescues! Thank you to those who have donated cars for our unit to practise on and cut up! These donations of cars that would normally end up at the scrap metal yard give us invaluable lessons and skills - thank you See more

05.01.2022 Our annual Santa Run with Pakenham CFA details....

04.01.2022 SEVERE WEATHER The BoM have issued a severe weather warning for strong and gusty damaging northerly winds for southern parts of the State (including greater Melbourne) increasing on Saturday before contracting east. The strong northerly winds will again bring a risk of falling trees and VICSES is conscious of the risk given the sunshine and second step restrictions enabling two households to meet outside across greater metropolitan Melbourne.... VICSES key messages: Three Victorian’s were tragically killed by falling trees in the strong winds on August 27 this year Strong northerly winds will again bring a risk of falling trees for large parts of the state on Saturday Peak gusts of around 100kmp/h are likely above 400m (including the Dandenong Ranges) with gusts increasing up to 110km p/h on Saturday morning Increased moisture in the soil from recent rain can compromise tree structures, whilst trees impacted by previous recent storm events may have dislodged branches or weakened structures which only elevates the risk Monitor conditions and remain vigilant to the risk on Saturday If you are outdoors and there are strong winds, avoid walking or sitting underneath trees. Monitor conditions and try to time your exercise or visit to the park outside of the strongest winds. The safest place to be during a storm is indoors Avoid unnecessary travel. Don’t be on the road if you don’t have to particularly in leafy areas. If you must be on the roads please drive to the conditions. For emergency assistance to floods or storms, phone the SES on 132 500.

01.01.2022 We are currently attending road crash rescue number 3 within 24 hours in our local community. This is very concerning. Most of the community has been in lockdown for long periods and not been on the roads - We strongly advise and remind drivers to drive to conditions, limit distractions and arrive alive! Be safe on the roads
