25.01.2022 Something else for us to bear in mind when considering our allergies....

25.01.2022 Wow is that the time!!? How it's flying by as we pack the shop up ready for closing TOMORROW!!! Sadly we've still got a fair bit left on the shelves :-( so if you can manage to pop down - all food, household and personal items are now reduced - so come on down, bag a bargain and help out an old girl who really doesn't want to take this lot to market, lol! ;-) See you in ten then? ;-)

25.01.2022 Only five days to go to All Hallows Eve...... what spooky m'dooky stuff will you get up to??? we're giving the usual Halloween party a miss this year, but will still be getting some scary looking treats and deccies sorted..... any excuse for a bit of fun :-) I've seen these "worms" all over facebook recently, and think I may just give `em a go this year... pretty good and adaptable for a variety of diets :-)

23.01.2022 Hellllllllooooooooo FB-ers! Long time no post! My, my, how I have missed you all. It's been a busy time - packing, painting and handing over our beaut little store back to our lovely landlord. Our shop sign may now have been painted over, but we have this photo to remind us of our corner store days and to remind us why we did it all. To live well is to eat well (and vice versa! ;-) ) Stay well friends :-) We're still here to chat to anytime you need us, and I'll do my best to hop online regularly to keep you informed of any food/intolerance/allergy related news I find (and maybe a few funnies thrown in there too!). Working hard to get working again, and the get the shop online too. Thanks for continuing to support us FB-ers :-)

19.01.2022 Ever have one of those days? Even my lucky pants aren't cutting it for me today! LOL - no cash register and my calculator has gone on the blink!

19.01.2022 This recall is a few days old - but just in case you may have missed it.... MAY CONTAIN PEANUTS Woolworths SupermarketsMacro Raw Food Bars - Chocolate Flavoured and Chocolate and Mint Flavoured

19.01.2022 Another favour to ask friends: As the store closes, we must also (very reluctantly) say a fond farewell to an old friend. My dear Morris Minor, Peggy, needs a new home - and I am desperate to find someone who will love her as Seth and I have. I've driven Peggy most days to work, school and around the Logan area for the last two years, but I'll need something a little bigger to be able to accommodate our online order deliveries :-( She's a 1958 so needs the TLC an old girl of her age deserves, and we're asking for $4200. Rego runs out this month so she'll be garaged (maintained) and off the road by end of August. If you know anyone who might be interested - please get them to PM me for more details.

19.01.2022 Recall news: not allergy related, but important stuff - this is beetroot, people!! http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/1064774

18.01.2022 BOO!!! Did I scare you? ;-) Spooky Halloween everyone! I love this day - apart from being a day of celebration in our family anyway (Happy Birthday Seth's Uncle!) - we've always enjoyed a bit of the paranormal in our house. Here are some pics I've found on t'internet - some from last year and some newbies - that could be fun to make with your kiddlies this evening (or extend the fun over the weekend). I've just done my jobs this morning and plan to spend the rest of the day, until school pick up, getting our deccies up and some fun food ready for Seth when he gets home. Dunking apples anyone? :-)

17.01.2022 If you suspect you may be intolerant, please go and get tested - you could have Coeliac Disease and need a more structured treatment/lifestyle.

17.01.2022 I've arrived at the store this morning and my cash register program is not working! (must have started my two year licence a little early when we first opened! Doh!) So, to apologise for taking a little longer to add your purchases using my trusty calculator, we're knocking 20% off all shelf stocked food, personal hygiene and household cleaning products! (some exclusions to the sale: allergy awareness products, bathtime boo, food pouches, bags, books and frozen products). In the meanwhile I'm working on getting our system back online so - Grab your bargains now!

17.01.2022 There are some wonderful, kind, inspiring and interesting people in the world, and it has been my pleasure, particularly over the last couple of years to have met so many. Today has been no exception...... You may recall my despair yesterday when I came into work to realise that the program licence to run my cash register had expired - I have been adding each and every item up the old school way since, and making the 20% reductions too (quite proud of myself to be honest - w...ho knew I could still do all that manually!?). Imagine my delight when I received an email from our program supplier giving me access to the system until we close! To them this may be a small gesture, to me it's huge, and I'm so very grateful. It has reminded me of the great people out there, reminded me of the random acts of kindness I've seen recently: like the man in the supermarket who paid the shortfall for the young mother who didn't have enough money to cover her bill (all fruit and veg and good stuff for her youngsters); the young lad who helped an elderly chap to the car with his bags when he saw him struggling; and so many more. We often hear of the bad stuff in the news and on the tv, but I really love to hear the good stuff. Just a small gesture from you can mean the world to someone else..... My heart is full right now and I'd better stop myself now as I'm gushing - but before I go..... what random acts of kindness have you seen that has made your heart warm? Please share your stories - we need this in our lives. xx

16.01.2022 This is our last week running a "physical" store (we're still going to be online!) and I just wanted to drop a line to thank each and every one of you for your support of our FB page over the last couple of years - many more to come hopefully! And just look - 1399 likers on the page today! THANK YOU!!!! Please continue to use the page as a sounding board, address questions, rant or share information with others living with restrictive diets. I'll still be manning the page, and once the shop in Daisy Hill has closed, I'll be setting up a facebook shop so you can purchase directly RIGHT HERE!

15.01.2022 Facebook, has so many restrictions these days that many of our lovely FB-ers don't even know that we close our doors next Friday! We're so grateful that we have almost 1400 followers on our page, but Mr Facebook lets so few of these see our posts (sometimes less than 100 see them...). If you haven't liked or commented on the page for a short time we fall off your feed. If you or someone you know might benefit from a visit to our store over this week, to stock up the cupboards with the bargains to be had, please spread the word. We've got loads of basic necessities for everyone, and the odd treat or two ;-) So thankful for all your support. x

15.01.2022 Well what a weekend! Almost sorted in the big clear out of the shop now - but still our counter remains.... anyone know anyone who knows anyone who might know someone who could need it? We have it advertised on Gumtree for $150 but negotiable on price for anyone who could pick it up this evening or first thing tomorrow..... That's the last thing to sort and then I can crack on with getting the store on Facebook! Yey! This is the last fittings advertising post, I promise, then we can get back to what we do best ;-) Thanks FB-ers. x

14.01.2022 Hello fb-ers! How's it going? Sorry I don't get online much these days - there has been a lot more work behind the scenes in closing down a business than I had ever imagined! I'm getting there now though, and having also had a chance for a bit of a break while Seth was on school hols, I'm feeling ready to take on the world again ;-) As I've mentioned in recent posts, Seth has now outgrown a number of allergies (just waiting on formalising my findings with confirmation from ...the specialists, but it's all good so far :-) ) so times of year like Halloween are a little easier for me to bear these days (a LITTLE less stressful) - however, I am still more than aware of allergies when catering for parties (sorry, Halloween is my second fave time of year after Christmas! you have been warned..... ;-) ). I'll dig out some of my favourite allergy friendly finger foods and nibbles in the coming days and share them with you all - watch this space. See more

13.01.2022 Belated Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. It can be a joyous day for so many, but also a day of reflection or sadness for others. Thinking of you all and hoping you had a peaceful day, discovering happiness in the simple things - even if that was soap on a rope. x ;-) x

13.01.2022 Even if you think you know all about storage of epipens, please take a few minutes to have a refresher. My boy is just off on a day trip with his grandparents and I was double checking they were taking his med bag when I found his kit in the cool bag, with an ice pack. My mum was aware that the meds should be kept out of direct sunlight and extreme heat, but didn't realise that is should also not be kept in extremely cold temps either. Maybe it's been too long since we did a... bit of Anaphylaxis training in our house, after some years I suppose I've become a little blasé about it all, and expect those around us to just "know" these things. Remember friends, keep it out of direct sunlight and ideally at room temp (between 20-25 degrees C / 68-77 degrees F). Extreme temps can affect the mechanism and the effectiveness of the epinephrine. Please share this post to friends and family who may care for someone who needs to carry an epipen. Cheers m'dears.

13.01.2022 You guys rock! At my time of need you came running - over 20 shares of my post yesterday and one freezer has been sold. The shop fittings went next. Now only one freezer left to sell on and I can take a breath! Thanks so much for spreading the word FB-ers, you really helped me out when I was getting myself a tad stressed with it all - you're good people :-)

12.01.2022 Sorry for the "over posting" today - but I NEED to share this page with you...... yum. yum. and indeed. yum. So many easy to follow and easy adaptable for various diets....

11.01.2022 This story just goes to show how important it is to keep up to date with changes to epipens. We have a practice "pen" (which you can buy online from Epipen) which Seth and I often practice with, and show relatives and friends how to use them. How wonderful that this young girl had instruction at school, and remembered the lesson when it really mattered. Top marks. :-)

11.01.2022 My little one returns to school tomorrow, and that means (other than my holiday is over and the hard work kicks in from now) packing lunches so exciting he can only eat them with relish! I'm very pleased to report that we have been able to reintroduce wheat and eggs to Seth's diet, more so over the holidays, and we're now at the stage where he can have a wheat wrap with no reactions at all. I'm still very careful not to overload his system with a former allergen, at this point, but so far so good. This will make lunches easier (and cheaper) for me, though I won't forget the lessons that allergies have given me over the years, to provide a good balanced lunch for my little one. What is your fave packed lunch? Do you like it because it's quick to prepare, or because your child enjoys it more?

11.01.2022 Anyone else interested in Medibands stating "Coeliac Disease"? One of our readers, Amy, is trying to get Mediband onboard with this. If you're interested, join the conversation here: https://www.facebook.com/mediband/posts/10154585823670531

10.01.2022 I've had some enquiries as to whether it's worth a trip out to the store today / whether we've got enough left to warrant the journey.... the answer is YES! Please do come on down! :-) We've still plenty to fill your cupboards at bargain prices! As well as that in the photos we've got Gourmet Meals (who can resist their desserts!!?) in the freezer, and some awesome Christmas choccies (which will go back up to full price when we get them online!). Hope to see you today, grab a bargain, and say "hi" :-)

10.01.2022 HELP! I just knew that our close down was going a little better than I could have hoped for - buyers sorted for all our 2 door commercial freezers and fridges - but today our buyer for two (less than two year old) freezers and another Orford freezer (needs compressor but worth fixing for only $200 ono) has just dropped out - they were also buying all our baskets (in fantastic condition - barely used in the two years since purchase). I need all this sold and gone by this weekend as we have to be out of the shop by the start of next week. Dear FB friends: I would be so grateful if you could let anyone who might be interested (or knows someone who knows someone ;-) ) hear about all this. 10.01.2022 Very interesting interview on ABC, giving theories on allergy causes:

10.01.2022 Another easy adaptable, healthy (ish) spooky treat....

09.01.2022 Sorry to keep sharing, but less than two weeks to go and we still have all the majority of our shop fittings to sell!! Please please please spread the word to anyone who might be interested - all available for pick up a week on Saturday (13th) - some available now! Come down and see what great condition it's all in - everything must go! PS updated from previous shared post, the majority of shelf stock now 20% off!

08.01.2022 Today is the day. When five o'clock tolls, Seth's will close it's doors on our Daisy Hill shop. The last two years, since starting my own business, have been the most challenging, yet the most rewarding of times. I have had the pleasure of meeting some of the most genuinely compassionate people, and watched children with illness bloom into health and enjoy the life that a change in their diet has brought. I hope I have helped many of you as we have talked through the init...ial stages of diagnosis, and guided you to realise that the world is not smaller because of allergies, it's just different to the world as you knew it before. I have had the honour of having Seth in my life for almost seven years now and will carry on sharing our experiences, even if it only helps one family/child/mum/dad, then I have accomplished what I set out to do. When my boy was first diagnosed, and particularly when he had his first anaphylactic reaction, I felt I was in a sort of grief for the life we "should" have had. I didn't use the internet much, no support groups, no Facebook. I felt very much alone. I never want another parent to feel that. Life is good, diagnosis doesn't have to mean an end to anything that really matters.... we have a great group on this page and I will keep this going for as long as you want or need it. Back in Daisy Hill, I will miss being on the shop front, but as one (physical) door closes, another (cyber) one opens ;-) I am still here for you FB-ers, just as you have been there for me. Ok, enough sentimental stuff, once more into the breach dear friends......... one last time ;-)

08.01.2022 Grab your spooky Bathtime Boo in time for Halloween! Available online on the Bathtime Boo page - or directly from us (local pick up not a problem!) "Scare with care" this Halloween :-)
