01.01.2022 Factors that may be affecting your performance . Warm up and Cool Down - Part 1 - .... Why should you warm up and cool down? . Warm Up: The warm up preps the body for activity that's about to be undertaken. A successful warm raises the the muscles body temperature for optimal flexibility and efficiency. It dilutes blood vessels allowing better supply of oxygen around the body, reduces stress on the heart by slowly raising beats per minute, increases range of motion and eases the stress on joints and tendons which reduce the risk of injury. . Cool Down: The cool down reduces the body back to its normal state. Without a proper cool down you may feel sick and potentially pass out due to the sudden stop of activity while having a high heart beat and body temperature. A successful cool down also reduces the build up if lactic acid that leads to cramping and stiffness. To reduce injury and improve performance, reducing stiffness and tightness is vital to allow to body to get into it's optimal positions when performing exercise. . Studies found that a warm up considering of 10 minutes of dynamic and moderate intensity aerobic exercises improved performance when comparing athletes that either did not undertake a warm up or completed one consisting of just static stretching. For the cool down studies suggest that an active cool which involves aerobic exercise does not have an impact and in some cases can negatively impact performance. While not showing as significant results as the warm up, post exercise stretching is suggested to show positive results on performance. .
