25.01.2022 Although the rain is with us today, the state is still drying quickly. This graffic shows the progression of fuel drying from October 6th to now. Please prepare your property now before restrictions start. Check or write a fire plan and keep in mind that Covid must be taken into account this year in your plans.... If you are burning off excess fuel please log your burn by calling 1800 668 511. Also check the weather to ensure wind speeds will not be too high on the day you wish to burn Don't forget to follow all council regulations that apply to your area.
20.01.2022 Today we mark one year since the start of the devastating bushfires which deeply affected Victorian communities across the state. On 21 November, 2019 the first... ‘code red’ fire danger rating in almost a decade was declared in the Mallee and Northern Country, and dry lightning strikes in East Gippsland that started three fires which grew to a widespread bushfire disaster that burned for months. Today we reflect on the devastation and challenges that followed 21 November and the incredible support from all emergency services who came together to aid the communities impacted by the unprecedented fire season. 17.01.2022 The grass pollen season brings a seasonal increase in asthma and hay fever. Today's pollen count is extreme you can look up the daily pollen count https://www.melbournepollen.com.au/ and if you are a hayfever sufferer now is the time to have your treatment plan in place and if you suffer from asthma you should have an asthma action plan and encourage family, friends and colleagues to have a practical knowledge of the 4 steps of asthma first aid.
15.01.2022 How quickly things can change. In just under a month, the state is drying quickly. Even our little valley is not immune. The time to prepare for the coming fire season is now.
12.01.2022 Last night we had the pleasure of joining our neighbouring brigades in assisting with a water bombing exercise at the Yarra Valley Quarries. It was a great oppo...rtunity to see how the chopper operates around the hills and in low light. We also had a visit from our new Chief Officer, Jason Heffernan which gave us the chance to welcome him to the CFA and also to the Yarra Valley. A big thank you goes out to all involved in organising the night with a lot of laughs had also some great inter brigade training before the fire season kicks off. 12.01.2022 In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.... We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. by John McCrae, May 1915
12.01.2022 Do you know Your Total Fire Ban District? Victoria is divided into nine Fire Districts which are based on council boundaries. Make sure you always know what fire district you are in whether at home or travelling. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restric/find-your-fire-district
10.01.2022 Great to see our angels from above back in the country for another fire season. Hopfully they spend more time on the ground then in the air this year.
09.01.2022 NAIDOC Week is held across Australia each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s theme 'Always Was, Always Will Be' encourages the community to explore, learn about and appreciate the wealth and breadth of Indigenous Nations, languages and knowledge of our continent. https://www.facebook.com/7390614415/posts/10159345182319416/?substory_index=0

01.01.2022 When we say we work as one we really mean it. Different agencies, different states makes no difference. Last summer one of our CFA Strike Teams saved the life of a NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service firefighter on a remote fireground in NSW. For over an hour, Strike Team 1304 (8th rotation) crews performed CPR and used AED’s (defibrillators) to save their colleagues life. All this occurred on the side of a remote mountain whilst the crews were surrounded by fire and smo...ke. It was a super human effort by our crews that day and what’s even more amazing, our NSW colleague was up and talking on national TV just a few days later!! One of the members of the NSW crew that was there that day, sent us the below photo to let CFA know that NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service has now put AED’s in all their Fire Response vehicles as a result of what happened. It was a great outcome to save a life, and a great outcome to see our northern firefighting family is a little safer now! CFA want to remind you - only 1 in 10 Australians survive a cardiac arrest! We can all help improve survival rates by knowing how to perform CPR and use an AED. Please take a moment to watch the following Ambulance Victoria video, it could save a life: https://youtu.be/oH7KciZ3UAQ BTW: Some of the AED’s used by our CFA crews to save that life in NSW, were paid for using donations from the public. So, if you’ve ever dropped a coin in a CFA tin or donated to your local CFA, THANK YOU! #ProudToBeCFA #LearnCPR #LearnToUseAEDs #weworkasone https://www.facebook.com/172636599435760/posts/3697153060317412/
