03.01.2022 I have shared this image in the past but never the story behind it. Amid World Photography Day I want to join Canon Australia initiative and go back in time to when my journey started.... Back in 2017 I crossed Laos from north to south on a motorbike. I remember often turning off the main road and getting lost in the lush and wild countryside. I still had fresh on mind the fact the country had been heavily bombarded by USA during the Vietnam War and plenty of land mines were still active somewhere on the ground. But the mountains were so stunning, the valley so green and the air so fresh that my spirit was invaded by a sense of freedom and curiosity. I was absolutely stoked of having all that vast territory to myself. As I was heading back I bumped into a local man leading a herd of bulls, on what seems to be his daily commute. I could see he was as shocked and intrigued as me by coming across someone so unfamiliar to his eyes. I aimed to say Hi in the local language and showed him my camera as a way to ask for his permission, getting a friendly smile in return. I took a single snap of him and with no further interaction we split ways. It was like two different worlds collided for a fraction of a minute. Since that day photography has become to me a tool to document and showcase the diversity and beauty of this world we live in; shaped by its landscape, people and cultures.
