25.01.2022 For the first time in more than 40 days, Queensland has recorded no new cases of coronavirus overnight. Thank you for staying home where possible, you're making a difference in our community. Together, we will get through this.

24.01.2022 Great news from Mackay Hospital!

24.01.2022 Mental health is important. Here are a few tips on how to socialise in self isolation.

24.01.2022 Check out the advice from Queensland Health! Follow them for further updates regarding COVID-19. If you have been in the greater Brisbane area from 02 Jan, you are required to get tested and self isolate for at least three days.

23.01.2022 There's nothing like your own free range eggs, just remember to wash your hands after spending time with your chooks. Did you know that backyard chickens can host and shed Salmonella that can cause illness in humans, even if the chooks are healthy and clean? If you own chickens, always wash your hands immediately after touching them, their eggs, enclosures or the area where they live.

23.01.2022 BREAKING: Queensland school students will learn at home for the first five weeks of Term 2, with schools only open for the children of essential workers. The move to the home-based learning model starts on Monday, 20 April and will be in place until at least Friday, 22 May. All students who can learn from home are to stay at home.... School staff, unless they are vulnerable due to medical conditions, will continue to teach from the classroom to ensure continuity of learning for students. Children of essential workers and vulnerable children can continue to attend school. This is another very difficult decision, but it is the right one for Queensland while we continue to slow the spread of COVID-19. #coronavirusaustralia

21.01.2022 While public transport isn't used as commonly here in Mackay as it is in the big cities, this advice can be used when touching a number of communal surfaces - especially the buttons on traffic lights when crossing the road. If you do use the buses or are getting on a flight soon, here are some helpful things to consider. Public transport tip #1: Use your elbow to push the stop button and use hand sanitiser when exiting

19.01.2022 Mythbusters - Queensland Health version. We've heard so many myths about treating coronavirus (COVID-19), so we're here to set the record straight. Sunbathing can stop you catching COVID-19 = BUSTED. Essential oils can stop you catching COVID-19 = BUSTED.... Garlic can stop you catching COVID-19 = BUSTED. Hot drinks can stop you catching COVID-19 = BUSTED. There is no evidence that any of the above myths will protect you from COVID-19. The best way to protect yourself is to wash your hands properly and often; stay at home as much as possible, only leaving when it is essential; cough or sneeze into your elbow or a clean tissue; and follow social distancing recommendations. 19.01.2022 It’s still the same sun! Each year Cancer Council Australia and the Australasian College of Dermatologists come together for National Skin Cancer Action Week. This is an important reminder to use sun protection and of the importance of early skin cancer detection for all Australians. Many Australians will remember the ‘Sid the Seagull’ campaign from the 1980s which launched the ‘Slip, Slop, Slap’ message.... Some things have changed since then but our sun is still the same. In Australia, data shows that people aged 25-44 are the most likely (43% of the population) to get sunburnt outside at peak times and are the group least likely to use shade when it's available. They are also the least concerned about skin cancer as an important issue in their community. A lot of those Australians who first heard Sid’s message now have kids of their own. National Skin Cancer Action Week is the perfect opportunity to remind them of the importance of staying SunSmart, not just for themselves but for their kids as well.

18.01.2022 Post-natal depression can affect new dads too. Regular support and contact from family and friends can make a big difference, so if you know a new dad, let this be a reminder to check in and see how they're going.
