15.01.2022 A recent review from Tim from the Honey Shop in the UK thanks Tim ! I loved Claire’s place. It was magical to be in pristine rainforest - and it was all and more than I expected. To be surrounded by wild forest and yet in such a beautifully cared for house was wonderful. Claire is someone who has an eye for detail and beautiful little touches make her house homely and character full. A lot of it is furniture that she has created. I stayed in the chalet and lit a fire in t...he wood burner which kept it toasty warm despite the cold outside. Claires is a great place if you want to de stress but more than this it is perfect if you are into wildlife and nature. At night the forest is pulsating with life, I’ve never seen so many wallabies and pademelons and many other marsupials. Heard Tasmanian Devils falling out but didn’t get to see one. Lots of birds as well. Best to get a 4 x 4 or SUV if you are staying there to get down the track (although Claire will meet you before it’s gets rough if you’re in a standard car). I can’t recommend Claire’s enough - especially for nature lovers. Claire goes to a lot of effort to make the house welcoming and comfortable for guests. Tim See more

02.01.2022 Special Video: Platypus on the ski run at Mt Field. Check out this incredible sight thanks to Jiemba Sands. Platypus are common in Tasmania’s creeks and rivers ...and are relatively easy to find if you are patient. They prefer the protection of wider creeks, with a good flow of water and need vegetation and earth banks to enable them to dig their camping and nesting burrows. The best time to look for them is early morning or late afternoon. Stand or sit quietly among the trees and bushes on the creek bank and watch the surface of the water, especially up close to the banks, for their tell-tale ripples. Patience will be rewarded Latrobe calls itself the 'Platypus Capital of the World' because they’re so common there. Just head down Hamilton Street off the main street (Jojo's on the corner) to Warrawee Reserve. The reserve is only a kilometre or so from the centre of town. The road follows the river. There’s no need to go all the way to the reserve; just stop near the big rocks beside the road just past the intersection with the old Deloraine road. Look for tell-tale ripples near the bank and watch patiently Other great spots to seek out this beautiful and rare creature are: - Beauty Point in the Tamar Valley north of Launceston - The creeks and rivers around Stanley - Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park - A short drive from Burnie to the Fernglade Reserve (the reserve at the end of the road is the best location, but platypus can be found right along the creekline) - At Westerway beside the Tyenna River on the way to Mt Field National Park, platypus are common in the river, and in the creeks of the park itself - At Loongana south of Ulverstone, if you stay at Mountain Valley Wilderness cabins you're certain to be shown platypus in the Leven River that flows through the property. (As well as having Tassie devils feed outside your door) - At Waratah in the north-west, the old quarry in the centre of town has been landscaped into a scenic lake and is a reliable place to see platypus in the morning and evening. Go to the southern side of the lake away from the main street and. If nothing else, you'll be able to take a photo of the "Platypus Crossing" road sign You can also follow Jiemba via instagram (link below): www.instagram.com/vesprephotography We love to share your Tassie videos, photos and stories with the world You can inbox us or post to our wall.
