25.01.2022 Just wanted to take the opportunity to congratulate the Rockdale community for their campaign for action on Bexley Pool. Last night after three months of blocking and boycotting by the Liberals and others, council resolved to sell Council owned land at Chapel St and to authorise the expenditure of $24M on a new Bexley Pool Complex. This only happened because of the sustained support given to progressive councillors by the community. ...Continue reading

21.01.2022 I have been a bit slack in posting recently but i am pleased to be able to inform those that haven't already heard that council has signed a contract for the construction of the new Bexley Pool. This is the final piece in the major capital projects. The Town Hall is completed, the Central Library is under construction, and binding contracts are now in place for the Pool and the Arncliffe Youth Centre. My thanks to the residents who have championed these important community facilities and the Councillors who have supported Rockdale residents, as slim majority as that may have been at times! http://www.theleader.com.au//rockdale-council-splashes-o/

17.01.2022 As the full extent of the humanitarian tragedy resulting from the Nepal earthquake unfolds a candlelight vigil was held at King St Mall this evening. Organised by the St George Migrant Resource Centre Nepalese and non Nepalese residents of Rockdale joined in prayer for the victims, their families and survivors. The gesture made me proud of our community. Sayal Koirala, a student at Rockdale Public School (pictured) recited a moving poem for the victims, which he wrote himsel...f. In conjunction with The Honourable Shaoquett Moselmane MLC, Council is holding the Nepal Earthquake Children's Appeal Dinner this Sunday May 3 2015, 6 pm for 6.30pm, Coronation Hall, 23 Barden Street, Arncliffe. For details and on line bookings go to www.rockdale.nsw.gov.au/NepalEarthquakeAppeal

16.01.2022 The portly chap below was snapped filming community members protesting against the Liberal Rockdale Councillors blocking of the Bexley Pool upgrade. Turns out the intrepid cameraman was in fact one of the missing Rockdale Liberals, Councillor Nick Mickovski. Unfortunately for him, a grandmother at the protest caught him in the act. When she invited him to address the crowd and explain his position, I'm told she received a curt "no comment" from our hero before he scurried ...away! Last time I remember peaceful protests being secretly filmed was the Patricks waterfront lockout, where security guards with balaclavas and dogs intimidated workers and their families whilst trying to starve them into submission. I always suspected that the Liberals weren't too keen on workers, now it seems they are anti community too!

12.01.2022 I just received some photos of the Anzac Day commemoration at Ramsgate RSL, which I attended with the newly elected member for Rockdale, Steve Kamper. It was great to see so many people take the time to pay their respects and give thanks to our service men and women for their sacrifice. Thanks to Ramsgate RSL for the offering me the honour of unveiling their new memorial wall, and for a genuinely moving service.

02.01.2022 Come and celebrate NYE 2014 at Brighton-Le-Sands tonight. Rockdale City Council is again hosting an alcohol free family fireworks display at 9pm. NYE at Brighton has become a signature event in Rockdale with over 70,000 people enjoying a fun, free family event. Our fireworks display, at 20 minutes, is the longest on offer in Sydney. So bring in the New Year with a bang at Brighton. For all the information you need to enjoy the night go to http://www.rockdale.nsw.gov.au/pag...es/pdf/NYEGuide.pdf I wish all the residents of Rockdale the very best in 2015.
