24.01.2022 Autism is very complex and does little to help us understand the human beings behind the label. Breaking its broad characteristics into these four fundamental areas has been extremely helpful for my own learning so I thought Id share. 1. Sensory Processing... 2. Communication 3. Social Comprehension and Interaction Skills 4. Self-esteem Understanding and empathy go an extremely long way to helping people with Autism find a happy and comfortable place in the world!

23.01.2022 A bit more information about us, who we are and what we are trying to achieve #shapeyoursupport #geelongdisabilitysupport

23.01.2022 Normally we take a very long-term approach to our work with clients. The goal is happy and competent adults that have all the skills and strategies they need to navigate life. However, when worlds and routines have been turned upside a short-term focus is more appropriate.... What can we do over the next six weeks to ensure that our children stay healthy mentally and physically? In these moments community access is less about skills building and more about mental health. Please make sure you and your family are staying active and getting outside where and when you can!

21.01.2022 We hope everyone is staying healthy! These are some of the precautions that our team is taking to ensure we are doing right by our clients

19.01.2022 Were not too sure who had more fun at Boys Club last weekend, the boys or our team? All we know is that it was a lot of fun! Lots of teamwork and social skills being built at the same time which is what really matters at the end of the day.... Looking forward to this weekend

17.01.2022 A child receiving a diagnosis can be a confronting moment for any parent. A moment that brings about many questions and not a lot of quick and easy answers: What am I meant to do now?... How and where do I learn about all of this? What will my childs future be like? Am I meant to be scared? Are other parents scared? Who do I trust to help me make decisions about my childs future? If you are a newcomer to the world of autism please know that it is not an awful and scary place, in fact, its a beautiful place full of possibility. However not having a good understanding of it, not having people around you who have a good understanding, not getting the help thats out there for your child - that can be very awful. Search for people you can trust, people that have a real interest in helping you and never stop learning!

16.01.2022 Mental health can be a scary topic to discuss. As we work with more and more clients we are learning that to support people with a disability to live a happy and healthy life its a topic that cant and shouldnt be avoided. We are committing ourselves to learning as much as possible about mental health and leaning into the discomfort so that we truly help people.... Many businesses ensure they doing enough, we want to ensure that we are doing what is right and what is needed. Especially when its hard.

15.01.2022 We are very excited to announce that we have added another team member to the Shape Your Support crew! Cooper John reached out to us whilst completing his studies in the area of Disability and we knew right away that he was a perfect fit for our culture and the business that we are building. Coopers natural people skills and passion for the industry will be a huge asset for us and great for our clients.... Welcome aboard Cooper

15.01.2022 Edit: Group is all full now! Two spots have just become available for our group program this Saturday Time: 10am - 2pm... Meeting Place - Rippleside Park Key Activity - Fort building in teams to build social skills and teamwork Message our page if you would like to snap up one of these spots. First come first serve!

15.01.2022 Hello everyone! We have decided to create this community group for our current clients so that they have a place to connect with one another. You can join here - https://www.facebook.com/groups/1193008447708175/... As you already know, we specialise in working with boys on the ASD spectrum which means our families share very similar challenges and experiences. If you are a current client it would be great to have you involved and if you arent a current client feel free to reach out to us about joining the Shape Your Support team

15.01.2022 Never good to hear that we are heading back into stage three restrictions. Especially with how difficult it was for our clients last time around. That being said we all must make sure that we do our part to ensure everyone is safe and healthy! Shape Your Support will be cancelling our Saturday group programs for the next six weeks and will reassess the decision to commence again as the date approaches.... Thankfully we are still able to provide 1:1 support to our families to ensure they are getting the support they need during this challenging situation. Well be taking our hygiene and cleanliness very seriously and working with parents to ensure that our boys are supported For our families, expect a message from us tomorrow

14.01.2022 We hope everyone is keeping as happy and healthy as possible during lockdown 2.0! We wanted to provide a bit of an update on our business and let everyone know that we are still serving our community and continuing to grow. If anyone is struggling at the moment and could use some extra support, please dont hesitate to reach out

14.01.2022 We are dreaming of a team filled with great male role models and talented support workers and this man is definitely both Eden has six children of his own and his passion was evident to us from the first moment we met. A big welcome to the Shape Your Support team Eden Pera, we are lucky to have you mate!

14.01.2022 Its Mens Mental Health Week this week Mental health is something that affects a HUGE amount of men and has impacted our Founders Reece Lawrence and Joe Lawrence lives in the past and even the present. Check up on the men and boys in your life and remember often all you need to do is listen. ... You dont have to have a solution, you just need to be there for support!

12.01.2022 Something that we are seeing come up a lot in our work with clients is information overload and a lack of alignment between support professionals. When you have a child with a diagnosis you may find yourself with a team 4-5 professionals, all with independent strategies. That is a lot of information to synthesise and turn into clear goals.... At Shape Your Support we believe that the aim of the game is integrating all of the strategies that you have received from the various specialists and putting that one strategy into active practice with your support worker. Having a good strategy is incredibly important but its execution and practice that results in progress and skills development.

12.01.2022 Were on a mission to change the disability industry for the better. Its definitely not always easy but it is always worth it. To see one of our parents sharing such kind words about us and the service we provide gives us all the energy we need ... Special mention to James Sherriff for being an absolute legend!

10.01.2022 R U OK? A simple yet very effective question, reach out to those who you think might need to be asked and those whom you might think would never need it. It doesnt hurt us to ask and care for our family, friends and even acquaintances. This is something we are very passionate about as mental health is getting more important by the day during these tough times.... If you see someone, just ask! #RUOKDAY

10.01.2022 To be honest when we planned our first Shape Your Support team day we were hoping that wed all be together in the same room! Luckily the passion and energy generated by creating our mission statement and talking about the reasons why we do what we do was just as good over Zoom. We cant believe how lucky we are to have so many amazing people and positive role models in our team, shaping our culture from day one.... We look forward to sharing our mission with you all soon

10.01.2022 If you are a disability support provider and are looking to connect with other business owners to share knowledge and grow your business then this group is the place for you! Join here - https://www.facebook.com/groups/953767445073562/

08.01.2022 Boys Will Be Boys We are super excited to announce that we are kicking off the first in our series of Saturday group sessions on the 27th of June! Why?... We believe that our most important role as Support Workers is to partner with our clients to build social comprehension and interaction skills. These skills are only learned through active practice in real-life situations. (And it will be really fun)... What? Date - Saturday 27th of June Time - 10:00am - 2:00pm Where - Rippleside Park & You Yangs Regional Park We will ask parents to pack a lunch and sneak in a $5 note for a hot chocolate also. Sunscreen, toys, sports equipment and transport will be provided by us. Hopefully we will see you there! If you are interesting please contact our page or email us at [email protected]

08.01.2022 As we see it the purpose of disability support is to provide guidance towards achieving a happy and comfortable place in the larger world. There are so many different approaches towards achieving this goal but energy, enthusiasm and positivity are the non-negotiables. It is not a journey towards normal or regular because that doesnt really exist anyway.... Its a helping hand to learn and master what is needed to live as independently and happily as possible!

08.01.2022 We have our fingers crossed that we get good news on Sunday and our group sessions will be making a come back!

08.01.2022 Support can take many forms during a lockdown. Building a new basketball rings is certainly one of them!

07.01.2022 This is the basic truth that it all needs to start from! If you havent yet be sure to check out Ellen Notbohm, Author and her amazing work

05.01.2022 Our families have been loving working with James Sherriff so far and he still has hours available in his week. Here is a little bit more about his motivations for joining the team and getting involved in the industry. If you are looking to get your child active and outdoors more often then James is your man!

04.01.2022 Happy Friday everyone! We have almost booked out our activity calendar for the month of August. We have one spot left for tomorrow, *15th now all booked out.... If you would like to book one of these spots let us know in the comments or a message! First come first serve We give first priority for bookings to our current families in our Facebook community group

04.01.2022 Even in times of uncertainty, the end goal remains the same: preparing our boys for a happy and comfortable adult life. However, now that we are in lockdown the approach looks a little different. Its less about community access (as we have none) and more about building value life skills that can be learnt at home.... Can we focus on healthy eating? Can we help to self-regulate and look after our mental health? Can we learn a new skill? These are the questions that all support workers should be asking. We would love to hear about any other strategies that parents and providers are putting in place!

03.01.2022 We are kicking off our first Saturday group session this weekend! Unfortunately, we are all booked out this time around. Due to the restrictions we have had to cap the group at five participants and five of our team members.... We see group sessions and bringing our clients together as a crucial part of preparing them for adulthood. Social comprehension and interaction skills enable us to be advocates for ourselves and what we need to navigate life. Group sessions provide the opportunity for active practice which is the only way to learn! Cant wait

03.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all of the awesome Dads out there! Its often Mum leading the charge in families that have a child with a disability but Dad is always there. The support, the jack of all trades or whatever else he needs to be.... We see you Dads!

03.01.2022 New business cards have arrived for team

02.01.2022 We had our first group session today and it was a big success! The drone was a big hit and we got some really cool shots. So proud of Reece Lawrence, James Sherriff, Shaun Spicer, Eden Pera and Matt Hobbs for being awesome people and great role models for our boys

02.01.2022 All behaviour is communication and all behaviour happens for a reason. By pinpointing the source of the resistance we are able to understand why challenging behaviour is occurring and work to resolve and prevent it in the future.

01.01.2022 This is a big one! We are beyond excited to announce that Matt Hobbs has joined the Shape Your Support team. Matt is a childhood friend of our founders Reece Lawrence and Joe Lawrence.... After hearing what Shape Your Support is trying to achieve he couldnt help but get involved, leaving a secure full-time job in favour of making a difference. Welcome to the team Matt, we are looking forward to seeing your leadership skills in action!

01.01.2022 The team continues to grow We are incredibly happy to announce that Shaun Spicer has joined the Shape Your Support team. We originally met Shaun when we started working with his beautiful family and quickly realised that we had to have him on the team.... Big things ahead! #superdad #shapeyoursupport
