17.01.2022 Thanks Down to Earth Tours for their lovely photo of the grand staircase at Martindale Hall.

14.01.2022 For the past 10 years, South Australia has lagged the rest of the country in investing in heritage conservation and in improving heritage protections. The one exception has been the Adelaide City Council, whose investment through its heritage incentives program leads the nation. The National Trust aims to change the conversation around heritage in South Australia so that the true value of heritage is recognised and that the opportunities it presents are fully realised. As R...ypkema argues, heritage conservation can be one of the most productive forms of economic development. As part of that changing that conversation, in partnership with the Adelaide City Council, the National Trust has invited to South Australia one to the world’s foremost heritage economists, Donovan Rypkema, principal of PlaceEconomics, based in Washington DC, Rypkema has worked in more than fifty countries to help identify and realise the many benefits of heritage conservation. He brings the intellectual rigor of an economics background to the complex problem of conserving and utilising our heritage assets. Tonight, at 5pm, the Adelaide Town Hall Donovan Rypkema is giving a free public lecture on the economic value of heritage to our cities. Please join us - click the link for details.

14.01.2022 Anyone for a game? Another lovely photo from Down to Earth Tours taken at Martindale Hall.

10.01.2022 If you love Martindale Hall as much as we do, then you must take a look at the Age of Elegance exhibition at Ayers House Museum before it closes. It is truly beautiful!

09.01.2022 Twenty years ago the government spent $1.5m on conservation work at Martindale Hall, and it was re-launched by then Premier John Olsen who said "Today we acknowledge, celebrate, and appreciate our history". The occasion was reported in the Heritage South Australia newsletter at the time, and we are hopeful that this year there may be another good reason to celebrate Martindale Hall.

09.01.2022 While we wait to hear news of Martindale Hall, I hope that you are enjoying South Australia's History Festival. If you can, head to Burra today for some fantastic festival fun.

06.01.2022 While not directly connected to Martindale Hall, this is still relevant and VERY important. Parliament's ERD Committee is seeking your views about the heritage system in South Australia, and all you need to do is email them. If you think that the demolition of heritage listed buildings is wrong, or have other thought about how the Heritage system is failing us - PLEASE send an email to [email protected] with your thoughts.

05.01.2022 Did you think that Martindale Hall was bequeathed to ALL the people of South Australia? What is the meaning of this plaque at the entrance to the Hall? Can the government really just sell off Martindale Hall and keep the cash? Find out here.

04.01.2022 An interesting story from the Womens Weekly back in 1978 when the University of Adelaide had just become custodian of Martindale Hall. Eight years later the university gifted the Hall to the people of South Australia to celebrate the state's Sesquicentenary. The National Trust of South Australia still has an unsolicited bid before the state government to turn Martindale Hall into a heritage tourism attraction. The Trust met with incoming Minister for Environment and Water David Speirs MP recently, and is optimistic about the progress of future talks. We'll keep you informed of developments.

02.01.2022 We're always pleased to hear that visitors enjoyed their stay at Martindale Hall, especially from interstate. Let's hope that the new government accept the National Trust's proposal to reinvent and renew this heritage icon as a massive national tourist attraction for the Clare Valley.

01.01.2022 The National Trust thanks everyone for their support during the last few weeks, and looks forward with hope for the future of Martindale Hall under a Steven Marshall Liberal government. We hope to meet again with David Speirs MP to discuss how we can work together to make Martindale Hall one of the heritage tourism jewels in the Clare Valley. Our photo shows Dorothy Mortlock seated at table with group of women in the garden of Martindale Hall in 1949 (SLSA B-68348). Let's hope that we too will be able to enjoy new activities and events at Martindale Hall as proposed by the National Trust. #savotes2018

01.01.2022 If you liked the period decorations and furniture at Martindale Hall, you will love this new exhibition coming to Ayers House Museum. See beautiful original Victorian clothing from the National Trust of South Australia's own collection on display at the new Age of Elegance Exhibition.
