23.01.2022 Today is International Womens Day. 2018 also marks the 100 year anniversary of women being allowed to practice law. Prior to this law change only a person was allowed to be admitted and a person was defined as a man. Below is Marie Byles (right) the first female solicitor in New South Wales and Ada Evans (left) the first female to graduate law. It isnt until you read their stories you realise how much we owe these pioneering women and the many that came after them. There has even been a shift since I started practicing law when women made up 37% of the profession and 7% were partners. In 2017 50% of lawyers were women with 24% being partners. This International Womens Day we pay tribute to female solicitors past and present.
